Wanita PKR urges crackdown on child grooming, slams social media pages promoting sexual harassment
Condemning the existence of social media pages that promote such elements, Wanita PKR called on the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and the Women, Family, and Community Development Ministry to take the necessary action.
'The authorities must ensure that children remain protected under the laws of the country,' said Wanita PKR in a Facebook post.
Wanita PKR also urged parents and society to remain vigilant and protect children from sexual violence by monitoring the presence of such social media pages and offensive comments that violate the dignity of children, encouraging them to report to the authorities promptly.
'Wanita PKR also pledged to play a proactive role, including carrying out a series of advocacy and child protection literacy programmes within communities, aimed at raising public awareness to safeguard children and the wider community from sexual harassment,' it added. — Bernama

Anwar, Hun Manet discuss latest Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire developments
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today held a discussion with his Cambodian counterpart, Hun Manet, on the latest developments concerning the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand. In a statement via Facebook today, Anwar said the discussion held over the phone also touched on the role of Malaysia-led Interim Observer Team (IOT) which has been closely monitoring the border areas of both neighbouring countries. "We also discuss further on measures that could be taken to enhance the effectiveness of its operations," the statement read. It was previously reported that, Armed Forces Chief Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar said the IOT plays a key role in investigating the transparency of the ceasefire along the Thailand-Cambodia border. He also said the team has received reports from both countries of several ceasefire violations and that it will investigate the reports. Last month, Cambodia and Thailand agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire amid the ongoing border conflict, withAnwar serving as host and Asean Chair.

Bali police arrest Peruvian over drugs smuggled in sex toy
DENPASAR, Aug 19 — A Peruvian woman has been arrested in Indonesia's Bali after allegedly trying to smuggle cocaine into the resort island using a sex toy and hiding drugs in her underwear, police said today. The 42-year-old, identified only by her initials NS arrived at Bali's international airport from Qatar on August 12 when authorities became suspicious. 'The customs officers suspected her behaviour, and after consulting with the police, they did a further check on her,' Bali police narcotics unit director, Radiant, who like many Indonesians has one name, told a press conference. The officers found 1.4 kilograms of cocaine inside a sex toy hidden in her genitals and in her underwear. Police also accused her of smuggling dozens of ecstasy pills. The Peruvian woman told the police she was hired to transport the drugs to Indonesia by a man she met on the dark web in April in return for US$20,000 (RM84,470), said Radiant. The woman has been charged under Indonesia's harsh narcotics law and could face the death penalty if found guilty. Last month, a Bali court sentenced a 46-year-old Argentine to seven years in prison after she was found guilty of smuggling 244 grams of cocaine wrapped with a condom that she hid inside her genitals. Indonesia has some of the world's toughest drug laws. There are dozens of traffickers on death row in the country, including a cocaine-smuggling British grandmother. Indonesia last carried out executions in 2016, killing one Indonesian and three Nigerian drug convicts by firing squad. — AFP

PM Anwar discusses ceasefire, border monitoring efforts, with Cambodian and Thai counterparts
KUALA LUMPUR: The latest developments concerning the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand were discussed between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his Cambodian and Thai counterparts in two separate discussions on Tuesday (Aug 19). In a Facebook post, Anwar said the telephone discussion with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet touched on the Interim Observer Team (IOT), which has been closely monitoring the border areas of the two neighbouring countries. "We discussed further steps that could be taken to enhance the effectiveness of the IOT's monitoring operations,' he said. In a separate Facebook post, Anwar said he also held a telephone discussion on the same matter with Thailand's Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai. "We emphasised and paid attention to the efforts of the IOT team, which continues to closely monitor the situation at the border, while also looking into several other initiatives that could be undertaken to strengthen the monitoring operations of the ceasefire. "In addition, both of us touched on the Thailand-Cambodia General Border Committee (GBC) meeting, which will convene next month,' the Prime Minister said. Defence Forces Chief Gen Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar previously said that the Malaysia-led IOT plays a crucial role in investigating the transparency of the ceasefire at the Thailand-Cambodia border. Mohd Nizam said the team would subsequently report its findings to both countries. On July 28, Cambodia and Thailand reached an agreement to implement an unconditional ceasefire following a special meeting in Putrajaya hosted by Anwar. At the meeting, Hun Manet and Phumtham also agreed to convene a GBC meeting as part of the ceasefire implementation. – Bernama
