Top plastic surgeons issue warning over viral surgery trend that leaves patients with facial scars

Daily Mail19 hours ago
A bizarre new plastic surgery procedure is dividing the internet after going viral on social media.
The 'dimpleplasty' creates artificial dimples on a patient's face through intentional scarring.
The procedure has been popular in South Korea and other parts of Asia for years, but now it's crossing over into the US.
Dimpleplasty videos are flooding social media and racking up thousands of views, with some doctors cashing in by offering the surgery at affordable prices.
Celebrities like Harry Styles, Cheryl Tweedy, Mario Lopez, and Ariana Grande have been cited as influencing the trend thanks to their flawless smiles and natural dimples.
Cosmetic nurse Alex Pike, who hosts the plastic surgery podcast The Face, told DailyMail.com that she's been inundated with questions about the procedure.
'My listeners often message me about viral surgery trends, including dimpleplasty,' she said.
'People are seeing these procedures all over social media, so it makes them curious to find out more.'
However, despite the procedure's growing popularity, some leading plastic surgeons are warning against it.
Beverly Hills-based surgeon Dr. Deepak Dugar told DailyMail.com that he 'highly recommends patients do not do dimpleplasty surgery.'
'This is a very unnatural procedure, which creates an artificial dimpling in the cheek at rest or smiling, which is not natural in comparison to a real dimple, which only shows when smiling,' he explained.
The renowned celebrity surgeon, who is known for his signature 'Scarless Nose' job and has operated on stars like Sami Sheen, said that a dimpleplasty can create unnatural results and scarring.
'We all covet natural beauty but sometimes recreation doesn't always look natural,' he said.
'Natural dimples, a cleft chin, or a mole or freckles are hard to reproduce naturally or elegantly. Procedures aiming to mimic these such as a dimpleplasty may lead to an unnatural appearance.'
Board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Yael Halaas shared a similar sentiment to Dr. Dugar, telling DailyMail.com that a dimpleplasty will indeed leave you with facial scarring.
'When dimples naturally occur, it's because of a natural anatomical variation in the muscle. Dimple surgery cannot replicate this muscle behavior so it mimics the result by creating a scarred-down spot that ends up looking like a dimple,' she explained.
'The downside is that you're creating a scar. The plus side… if you really love the look, dimple surgery can give you the indentation.'
Comments about the procedure from social media users have been largely negative, with one user writing, 'This doesn't look natural at all!'
Another commented, 'Great, now I've gotta deal with folks asking me if my dimples are natural.'
However, some doctors swear by the popular procedure and are more than happy to offer it to willing patients.
Dr. Andrew Jimerson II, who is best known as 'Dr. Curves' online, regularly performs the procedure in his Atlanta clinic for around $1300.
In one viral post, he wrote, 'The full healing process takes about 3 to 4 months. In the beginning, dimples will be visible at all times. Over the next few weeks, they'll soften and settle — and once fully healed, you'll only see them when smiling, just like natural dimples.'
According to a study by Grandview Research the global dimpleplasty market size was estimated at $302.50 million in 2022.
The research attributed the growth to advancement in the surgery, high disposable incomes, and an increase in people wanting non-invasive procedures.

Has Law and the City been renewed for Season 2? Here's what we know:

Renewed Or Cancelled? Law and the City is the latest law drama, blending thriller and drama vibes alongside an enticing ensemble of characters at the helm. If you've been following this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here's what we know: What is Law and the City about? An Joo-Hyeong works as a lawyer, and he has the type of personality where he can be brutally honest to other people. He's never had a deep interest or dream of becoming a lawyer to protect the weak or carry out justice though. Joo-hyeong has worked for the same law firm for the past 9 years, and he's recognized at his firm for his work, receiving a record salary for an associate lawyer. However, he soon finds his peaceful world begin to crack… We have ongoing coverage of Law and the City across the site including recaps for the season. You can check those out HERE! Has Law and the City been renewed for season 2? At the time of writing, tvN have not renewed Law and the City for season 2. Given the ratings over the weeks, it'll be interesting to see if they actually do renew this for a follow-up. The ratings began with a respectable 4.6% share nationwide but since then, the show has been increasing in popularity with every passing week, with the later episodes hovering around 5.8% nationwide. Regardless of ratings, it's extremely rare to find Korean dramas renewed for another season. That has changed in recent years but given the sheer wealth of talent in this that are sure to move onto other projects, we predict that Law and the City will not be renewed for a second season. However, should this change then we'll be sure to update this section with more details as they become available. What we know about season 2 so far: Barely anything is known about season 2 right now. Given most Korean dramas are reserved to one season, it's rare to find these sort of shows renewed. With the rare exception of ongoing Netflix shows (Love ft. Marriage and Divorce, Hospital Playlist etc.) then it seems unlikely that this one will be renewed. Having said that though, we have seen Taxi Driver and Tale of the Nine Tailed renewed recently, alongside Alchemy of Souls too. Given how steady the ratings are for this series, could we see this one buck the trend? It seems very unlikely that Law and the City will, but you never know! We'll be sure to update this section when we know more. Would you like to see Law and the City return for a second season? Or do you think the story has run its course? Machine Gun Kelly sparks concern revealing grim diet plan and admits he only eats a 'couple of times a week'

Machine Gun Kelly has fans worried after opening up about his diet which lacks what many would consider as proper sustenance. The 35-year-old pop punk rapper - who hit a rare red carpet with his teenage daughter weeks ago - broke down his nutrition plan as he revealed that he only eats 'a couple of times a week.' In a clip shared by Instagram account HipHop-N-More he admitted: 'I don't really eat. I just do water a bunch.' MGK (born Colson Baker) - who ate a burger during the hangout with streamers - nodded when he was asked if he mainly fasts. He explained: 'Like, I ate that burger 'cause we're streaming, and it's my man's s***, you know?' One of the streamers asked that if they weren't live online then what would MGK have for dinner. The Home hitmaker simply replied: 'Probably water.' The group of streamers were left mystified by the answer as they queried: 'But how? You don't ever feel weak or lightheaded?' Then MGK revealed his diet plan which many have since criticized as he said: 'Yeah, sometimes. I'll eat, like, a couple times a week.' He then admitted that the meals that he actually does eat consist of 'bone broth with kimchi and sauerkraut.' Megan Fox's baby daddy explained: ''Cause it has probiotics, you know? So, like, when you do those water fasts, the only thing that's crazy is it kills all the good bacteria in you, too, so you gotta put the pro[biotics.' Kimchi is a traditional Korean side dish (ie. banchan) consisting of salted and fermented vegetables, most often napa cabbage or Korean radish. Sauerkraut is finely cut raw cabbage that has been fermented by various lactic acid bacteria. Both items are fermented which is a metabolic process in which microorganisms like bacteria and yeast convert carbohydrates into other products like acids, gases, or alcohols. As the rapper said, kimchi and sauerkraut each contain probiotics, which are live microorganisms like bacteria or yeast that provide health benefits; however, they are low in calories and macronutrients, which are essential to organ function. Meanwhile, bone broth is a nutrient-rich liquid made by simmering animal bones and connective tissues, often including vegetables, herbs, and spices, for an extended period, typically 12-48 hours. MGK was asked if he drinks green juice which is made from a blend of green vegetables or fruit which is a go-to for many celebs. He replied: 'I'll drink celery juice sometimes, yeah. Coconut water.' The father of two also noted that coffee and cigarettes are staples in his diet. Fans expressed their concern in the comments section of the clip as some accused him of having an eating disorder. One wrote: 'Explains an eating disorder and smokes cigs as the other guys are saying he's healthy.' 'Bro is describing anorexia,' another said while a different commenter posted: 'He has the diet of a 17 year old girl who has anxiety issues.' Fans expressed their concern in the comments section of the clip as some accused him of having an eating disorder MGK welcomed his second child - a daughter named Saga Blade - with ex Megan Fox in March. He is also dad to a 15-year-old daughter named Casie from a previous relationship. The rapper celebrated one year of sobriety in August of last year.

Instagram users are horrified by new feature that allows your friends to see which posts you've liked - thankfully there's a simple way to opt out

You might want to start being more careful about what you like on Instagram. Meta 's social media app is introducing a new feature that may reveal your most embarrassing thoughts and desires. The update, already available in the US and now rolling out globally, lets your friends see video posts that you have liked in a dedicated tab. However, the new feature hasn't gone down well. Some disgruntled users are calling it 'invasive' and 'diabolical' because it can potentially reveal your somewhat questionable preferences. One user said on X (formerly Twitter): 'Instagram reels having a tab that shows what your friends have liked is so awful.' Another person posted: 'who runs the liked by friends tab on instagram and why do they want me to die.' Thankfully, there is a way to opt out – scroll down to find out how. People are calling it 'invasive' and 'diabolical' because it can reveal questionable hobbies and interests One user said on X (Twitter): 'Instagram reels having a tab that shows what your friends have liked is so awful' Instagram launched in 2010 as a simple photo sharing app, but the latest update from Meta adds yet another element to the user experience. For now, it applies solely to Reels – the swipeable gallery of endless short video clips, similar to the ones on TikTok – and not photos. When you tap on the Reels icon at the bottom of the app (indicated by the little square with the play arrow inside) you'll see two options at the top. The first option, 'Reels', shows the clips as normal, but the second option 'Friends', solely shows clips that your friends have liked. It also reveals who exactly has liked them – thanks to their profile photo appearing in the bottom left-hand corner. What's more, if you tap on their profile photo, you can send them a message, perhaps telling them something about the Reel they liked. In turn, your friends can do the same with videos that you have liked – meaning you may inadvertently reveal more about yourself to your friends than you might've wished. One X user said she had seen 'a self-help style relationship post' that three of her divorced friends had liked, as well as 'four wedding dress reels' liked by her 'happily single friend' who 'secretly wants a boyfriend'. Instagram users have flocked to X (Twitter) to criticise the new feature, which is already available in the US One X user said she had seen 'a self-help style relationship post' that three of her divorced friends had liked Thankfully, there is a simple way to stop anyone from seeing any Reels you have liked, as well as any comments you have made. Visit 'Settings' on Instagram (indicated by the three horizontal lines) and scroll down to the subheading 'Who can see your content'. Next, tap on 'Activity in Friends tab' and then change the setting to 'No one'. Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, announced likes appearing on Reels in a video post back in January, but the new Friends tab at the top is only just rolling out globally. 'We're doing this because we want Instagram to be not just a lean-back experience but a participatory one, a social one, one where you actually explore your interests with your friends,' he said. In response, an unimpressed user said: 'At this point I'm thinking they want people to stop using the app?' Someone else called the feature 'a little bit invasive', adding: 'I don't want my friends to see everything I like and I don't need to see what they like.' They continued: 'If anything, imo, this will refrain people from liking posts, making engagement plummet even more.' Instagram has also announced it is rolling out the ability to repost Reels and photos, similar to the user experience on X. If there is a Reel or an Instagram photo that you want to endorse, you can tap a new repost icon (featuring two revolving arrows). Your reposts will appear in a new tab on your profile – like your 'own personal highlight reel', according to Instagram. Perhaps ironically, X – which is owned by Elon Musk – started hiding user's likes last year to help protect victims of cancel culture. The change was implemented to 'allow people to like posts without getting attacked for doing so', according to the billionaire. Cybersecurity experts issue urgent warning over 'data hungry' apps like Instagram and Facebook that ask for 'shocking' levels of access to your personal data They're some of the biggest apps in the world, used by hundreds of millions of people every day. But according to a new investigation, 'data hungry' smartphone apps like Facebook and Instagram ask for 'shocking' levels of access to your personal data. Experts at consumer champion Which? investigated 20 popular apps across social media, online shopping, fitness and smart home categories. They found all of them ask for 'risky' permissions such as access to your location, microphone, and files on your device – even when they don't need to. The experts urge people to be more careful about what exactly we agree to when we download an app and mindlessly agree to permissions.
