WEBSTER CITY, Iowa — The Webster Theater will once again open its doors on Thursday after a fire shut down the theater over a year ago.
Delayed Bombers entertainment venue granted eighth extension by City of Johnston
In November 2023 a fire broke out at a vacant building along 2nd Street in downtown Webster City. Despite multiple fire crews battling the blaze, several businesses near the vacant building sustained significant damage, including the historic Webster Theater.
After the fire, a large restoration project on the theater began, and now — nearly 18 months later — the theater is ready to welcome back movie buffs.
According to a post on the theater's Facebook page, the first showing in the revamped space will be Marvel's Thunderbolts at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 1.

Ryan Reynolds spoofs 'Doogie Howser M.D.', calls Neil Patrick Harris a 'butthole' for stealing Deadpool game role

Ryan Reynolds isn't letting go of Deadpool without a fight — or at least some carefully plotted vengeance. After several years as the face, voice and personal cheerleader of the merc with a mouth, Reynolds has been usurped by Neil Patrick Harris, who is set to voice the comic book character in Marvel's Deadpool VR, a new game for the Meta Quest 3 and 3S. And Reynolds is taking the news about as well as expected. Hours after the trailer for the game arrived on Saturday, Reynolds shared a video in which he is seen "overreacting" to the news. The video opens with the Deadpool & Wolverine star sitting at a decades-old computer while wearing glasses and a lab coat in an apartment eerily similar to that of the title character in Doogie Howser, MD., Harris' star-making role. "Today, I learned a lesson about buttholes they don't teach you in medical school," Reynolds narrates. "People who steal your signature role are the biggest buttholes of all." Spoofing the journal entries that Doogie often made on the show, Reynolds continued, "No, I don't blame Meta Quest. Neil Patrick Harris is an amazing actor with the nurturing voice of an angel, but even though I haven't hit puberty yet, I still know when you're getting totally screwed." Reynolds is then interrupted by the appearance of Robyn Lively, who played a love interest to Harris in Doogie Howser M.D. "House call," she announces. Staying in character, Reynolds says, "My girlfriend, what are you doing here? If my dad sees you here, he's gonna freak." But Lively, the half-sister of Reynolds' wife Blake Lively, doesn't play along. "You're a 48-year-old man," she reminds him. "I'm a 14-year-old medical prodigy who's going through the change," Reynolds insists, sticking to the stolen character before breaking the fourth wall to remind her: "Robin, you're being paid." Lively ignores him and deadpans, "This is vindictive and stupid." But Reynolds is not dissuaded from his revenge quest. Later, he even attempts to double down on the role of Doogie by going in for a kiss with Robyn, but can't bring himself to do it. "I don't think we should do that because you're my sister-in-law," he says, giving up. Lively replies, "You're so dumb." While Reynolds' tenure as Doogie was shortlived, Harris is committing to his role as Deadpool. The trailer for the upcoming game promises an adventure that's "not for the faint of heart," warning players to "put on your big-kid undies and strap in for a violent, expletive-ridden good time." The game is slated to drop later this year. In the meantime, watch Reynolds attempt to steal the role of Doogie in the video above. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly

Thunderbolts* (New Avengers) Got Good Reviews, But It Can't Escape One Startling Box Office Fact

Friends, it's time for another example of the MCU presenting itself as a 'glass half full/half empty' paradox. With the 2025 movie schedule seeing Thunderbolts* clocking in with some pretty good reactions, including CinemaBlend's Thunderbolts* review, you could say this vibraninum glass is indeed half full. However, those of you thinking the situation looks a bit more on the 'half empty' side will feel potentially vindicated, as apparently the box office numbers are still not looking too hot. Per numbers plucked from Box Office Mojo, the MCU's cinematic finale of Phase 5 is apparently the second lowest grossing picture in the entire lot. Now keep in mind, this ranking is based on the global box office total, and not focusing solely on what *The New Avengers took in at home or abroad. With that total picture in mind, here's the bottom 10 Marvel Studios earners at the global box office, from bottom to top. The Marvels: $206 million Thunderbolts: $359 million Captain America: The First Avenger/Black Widow: $370 million Eternals: $402 million Captain America: Brave New World: $415 million Thor: $449 million Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania: $476 million Ant-Man: $519 million Thor: The Dark World: $644 million Ok, so the good news is that with a couple more weeks of strong finishes, Thunderbolts* could realistically match or surpass the $370 million brought in by the first Captain America film and Black Widow. Also, solely on the basis of director Jake Schreier's $180 million production budget, the movie is basically knocking on the door of grossing double that amount. On the rough guidelines that attempt to account for advertising, as well as other hidden costs that aren't shared with the public, this looks good. Not terrible, but ok. However, this is a Marvel movie; a concept that means a lot more today than it did when Spider-Man and the X-Men were paving the way for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While I can't say for sure, I wouldn't be surprised if this number falls short of internal projections/expectations at Marvel Studios. Those sort of expectations kind of fall into place when you turn your business into the juggernaut that delivered several record breaking Avengers movies that Disney+ subscription holders can revisit at their leisure. Disney Plus + Hulu Bundle: From $10.99 A MonthFor as little as $19.99 a month, you can have the combined worlds present in the Disney+/Hulu Bundle! Ad-free, and ready to show you everything Marvel, Star Wars, and of course Disney, this is the portal to a multiverse of entertainment. Though if you're looking for an ad-supported tier, you can pay $10.99 a month to have the same access - just with commercials. View Deal Perhaps the final word on the matter should be the fact that even in its own corner of potential disappointment, Captain America: Brave New World brought in $415 million worldwide. That puts the Anthony Mackie-starring vehicle closer to the likes of the first Thor, which isn't a terrible place to be. I'm sure that if we sat here and really broke out the domestic vs. international grosses, we'd see some sort of pattern that could point to why we're seeing these sorts of results more often at MCU HQ. And considering the reversal of fortune that saw the phenomenon known as 'Stitchpossible' owning Memorial Day weekend, that's probably what some are doing right now. But these are only numbers, folks. If you're looking to revisit or introduce yourselves to Thunderbolts* (or *The New Avengers, if you're so inclined), you can head to a theater near you and do just that. Those of you concerned for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's health, don't fret just yet. Save your worries until after The Fantastic Four: First Steps debuts in theaters on July 25th, because if that tanks, then you can panic!

Lilo & Stitch Quietly Passed A Box Office Milestone That Previously Went To Sinners

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. We're slightly less than halfway through the 2025 movie schedule, and some wild times have already been had at the box office. A pair of Marvel movies failed to make their usual explosive debut, and instead, one of the biggest movies of the year has been Sinners, an original film not connected to any franchise. The film had previously been the second highest-grossing movie at the domestic box office, but Disney's Lilo & Stitch remake has now taken that honor. At over $267 million at the domestic box office, Sinners had been the number two movie of 2025. Lilo & Stitch now sits at nearly $285 million. It's going to take some doing for Disney's little blue troublemaker to become the highest-grossing movie of the year, however. A Minecraft Movie currently sits atop the box office at $423 million. With numerous major blockbusters set to come out over the next couple of months, it's quite likely that Sinners will continue to slide down the box office chart. Still, wherever it happens to end up, its achievement cannot be overstated. Franchise filmmaking had already been the focus of studios back when more people still went to theaters, and in an era where getting people to do that is becoming increasingly difficult, audiences aren't leaving the house to see anything other than familiar franchises. To be fair, the fact that it took Lilo & Stitch as long as it did to overtake Sinners at the box office is a testament to the film's popularity and staying power. Stitch had an opening weekend that was three times that of Sinners. Sinners, however, had virtually no drop in its box office take between its first two weekends, a nearly unheard of statistic. Lilo & Stitch saw a nearly 60% drop between its first two weekends, which is fairly standard for major tentpole releases. If Lilo & Stitch means anything in the broader box office landscape, it's that despite the overall failure of Snow White, live-action remakes of popular animated films are still popular with fans. Lilo & Stitch is in the upper tier of the box office results for those films, only behind movies that grossed a billion dollars worldwide, like Aladdin, Alice in Wonderland, and The Lion King. Lilo & Stitch seems unlikely to reach quite those heights; it's broken $600 million and the global box office, but with the movie having been released in all countries, save Japan, where it will open this weekend, it has certainly made most of the money it's going to make. The major thing that may stop the momentum of Lilo & Stitch may, ironically, be another family-friendly live-action remake of a popular animated film. How to Train Your Dragon is set to hit theaters next weekend.
