Hyundai Motor India Begins Engine Production At Talegaon Plant
Hyundai Motor India has announced commencement of operations at its recently acquired Talegaon manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. This facility will be used to manufacture powertrain and vehicles with the automaker initiating the process with the production of engines first. This is to be followed with the production of vehicles soon.
In 2023, Hyundai Motor India finalized an agreement with General Motors to take over the latter's manufacturing plant located in Talegaon, found within the Phase II Expansion area of MIDC in Maval Tehsil, Pune district. This acquisition was part of Hyundai's long-term plan to boost its domestic production capabilities and reduce dependencies on imported components.
It is important to note that General Motors operated their Talegaon facility until 2020, producing for specific export markets even after the American brand stopped operations in the Indian market in 2017. Since 2023, Hyundai has owned this facility and has been renovating it as part of its Rs 6,000 crore investment.
Covering 300 acres, this Talegaon manufacturing site previously had an annual output capacity of 160,000 engines and 130,000 vehicles. Hyundai initiated engine production at this facility on June 16, 2025, which is anticipated to alleviate the production challenges prompted by the rising demand for Hyundai vehicles.

Israel Iran War: Iranian missile strikes on Gautam Adani's Haifa port, all operations suspended by…, why is it important for India?
Gautam Adani (File) Indian billionaire Gautam Adani-led group's Haifa port in Israel was unharmed by the Iranian ballistic missile attack, with cargo operations progressing unhampered, reported PTI citing sources. Israel's largest oil refinery, Bazan, suspended all operations at its Haifa Port after the damage from an Iranian missile strike late Monday night, reported Economic Times. Late on Saturday night, Iran targeted Israel's Haifa port and a nearby oil refinery in response to Tel Avi's attack on Iranian nuclear and other targets earlier this week. Shrapnels fell in the chemical terminal at the port and some other projectiles fell at the oil refinery, two sources aware of the matter said. They claimed there were no injuries. Adani's port, however, was not impacted by the strike. A piece of interceptor shrapnel was also found at the Kishan West (Haifa port) but there were no injuries, they said. Cargo operations at the Adani-operated port were unhampered. 'There are eight ships in the port now, cargo operations are normal,' a source told PTI. The Iranian ballistic missile attack did not inflict any damage to the port or its operations, the sources claimed. How Haifa port Operates? Haifa port is totally functioning normally, sources said, adding 8 ships were handling cargo as on Sunday. The port has approximately 700 employees. It handles different type of cargo, including containers, bulk, breakbulk, cement and general cargo. Haifa port serves as a crucial maritime hub, handling over 30 per cent of Israel's imports. It is owned by Adani Ports, which controls a 70 per cent share. Haifa is less than 3 per cent of the volume handled by Adani Ports and SEZ and contributed less than 2 per cent to the profits. Haifa handles a total cargo of 10-11 million tonnes annually, while APSEZ annual volumes are upwards of 450 million tonnes. Haifa is located at the nexus of Israel's economic and military networks, plays a critical role as an oil refinery, for industrial exports, and also for supporting naval operations. These functions give more importance to any foreign investor. India's acquisition of the Haifa port is part of its broader goals within the proposed India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). This multinational initiative brings together India, Israel, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the EU, and the US. It will connect Indian ports to Europe via the Arabian Peninsula and Israel. It can also be an alternative to the Red Sea–Suez Canal route. For India, holding a direct stake in the Haifa port gives multiple advantages, like streamlined trade with Europe, enhanced logistics infrastructure, and strengthened strategic ties with regional partners.

Republican political strategist Gavin Wax wants Silicon Valley jobs to be legally reserved for Americans; says: it's a matter of ….
Republican political strategist Gavin Wax has sparked fierce online debate after declaring that Silicon Valley jobs should be "legally reserved for US citizens," calling the tech hub a "strategic national asset" whose workforce poses potential national security risks when dominated by foreign workers. Wax, former president of the New York Young Republicans and recently appointed chief of staff to FCC Commissioner Nathan Simington, made the controversial statement amid ongoing tensions over the H-1B visa program that allows skilled foreign workers to take American jobs . The debate reflects broader tensions within conservative circles over immigration policy . While national-security-focused conservatives like Wax advocate for restricting foreign workers, tech advocates including Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have defended H-1B visas as essential for maintaining America's competitive edge. Critics question Wax's understanding of Silicon Valley demographics Social media users quickly challenged Wax's proposal, pointing out that foreign-born workers comprise 60-70% of Silicon Valley's tech workforce . "Tell me you've never stepped foot in the valley without telling me you've never stepped foot in the valley," one user commented. Another quipped, "If that would be the case, Silicon Valley would be called a Stupid Valley." Users countered Wax's argument by listing prominent immigrant entrepreneurs: "Steve Jobs: son of a Syrian immigrant. Jeff Bezos: father is a Cuban immigrant. Sergey Brin: Soviet immigrant, born in Moscow. Jensen Huang: Taiwanese immigrant. Elon Musk: South African immigrant." One commenter noted the irony that such a policy "would have kept Canadian Elon Musk out," adding that "American policy is to hire the best." One critic drew parallels to diversity policies, arguing, "If you're only allowing US citizens, that's no better than DEI and fast tracking mediocrity," suggesting that merit-based hiring regardless of origin should be the priority. Another user questioned whether limiting talent pools would "cripple your strategic assets," noting that America appeared "currently good at that." Elon Musk came in support of H-1B visa earlier, said its important for the US Musk, who himself migrated from South Africa on an H-1B visa, recently called the system "broken" but argued it could be "easily fixed" by raising minimum salaries and adding yearly costs to make overseas hiring more expensive than domestic recruitment. Ramaswamy echoed support for elite talent importation, arguing that American culture has celebrated "mediocrity over excellence." The internal MAGA dispute escalated when Musk warned of a " MAGA civil war " and vowed to "go to war" on the H-1B issue, while Trump ultimately sided with the tech leaders, telling The New York Post he was "a believer in H-1B" and had "used it many times." Recent USCIS data shows 2026 H-1B applications at their lowest levels, though MAGA activists remain disappointed that the Trump administration hasn't completely halted the program. Trump himself has recently expressed support for allowing foreign students to work in America after graduation, including those from China. Wax's appointment to the FCC earlier this year marked a significant shift toward more aggressive conservative policy positions within the commission, aligning with Chairman Brendan Carr's combative approach to tech regulation and content moderation issues.
