Indus Waters Treaty unjust, blood & water can't flow together: Modi
NEW DELHI:
PM Modi
rejected
Indus Waters Treaty
(IWT) with
Pakistan
as 'unjust and one-sided', reiterating India's position that "blood and water cannot flow together" and asserting that India will "no longer tolerate nuclear blackmail". In his I-Day speech Friday, the PM lauded
Operation Sindoor
and the role played by armed forces, while outlining India's "new normal" that, he said, will "not differentiate between terrorism and those who nurture terrorism".
Modi declared from Red Fort that IWT is not acceptable to India as the country's farmers suffered unimaginable losses because of the treaty, backed by World Bank. "The waters that belong to India will be used by India, for our farmers alone. We would no longer tolerate an arrangement that deprived its farmers. India has endured this for decades. We will not endure it any further. In the interest of our farmers and the nation, this agreement is unacceptable to us," PM said.
He said Operation Sindoor, which saw India bombing terrorist headquarters in Pakistan and POK, reflected the anger and frustration that people felt after Pahalgam terror attack. "Terror headquarters hundreds of kilometres inside enemy territory were destroyed. Terrorist infrastructure was turned to rubble. Pakistan is still having sleepless nights. There was so much destruction there that even now there are new revelations coming out,'' said Modi, alluding to the disclosure by IAF last week that six Pakistani aircraft were brought down in the military conflict in May.
"For a long time, nuclear blackmail had been going on but this will not be tolerated anymore,'' the PM said.
Modi stressed that India will continue to give a befitting reply to enemies of the nation. PM said the country saw the wonders of 'Made in India' in Op Sindoor.
"The enemy was shocked at the kind of ammunition that was destroying them within seconds." "In past 10 years, we set our target to become self-reliant in defence sector, and today we are seeing the results," Modi said.

Delhi's infra boost: PM Modi to inaugurate Dwarka Expressway, UER-II; Rs 11,000 crore project to decongest Capital
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate two major National Highway projects in Delhi on Sunday, with a combined value of nearly Rs 11,000 crore. The inauguration marks a significant step in government's broader plan to ease congestion in the capital and improve connectivity across the region. The projects: the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), are expected to greatly cut travel time, decongest arterial routes, and provide smoother links between Delhi and its neighbouring cities. The 10.1 km Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway has been built at a cost of around Rs 5,360 crore. It will not only help traffic movement but also provide multi-modal connectivity to Yashobhoomi, the DMRC Blue and Orange lines, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station, and the Dwarka cluster bus depot. Alongside this, the Alipur to Dichaon Kalan stretch of the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), including new links to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, has been developed at a cost of Rs 5,580 crore. This new corridor will ease pressure on Delhi's Inner and Outer Ring Roads, as well as busy intersections such as Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-09. According to officials, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the full 76-km UER-II, developed as the third Ring Road of Delhi, and the 29-km Dwarka Expressway on Sunday. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? The Dwarka Expressway, fully operational, has been built in four packages at a cost of around Rs 9,000 crore. Its Haryana section was inaugurated by Modi in March 2024, just before the Lok Sabha elections. Meanwhile, the UER-II was executed in five packages with a total cost of Rs 7,716 crore. As per the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the UER-II begins at Alipur on NH-44 and connects with NH-9 and NH-48 in Delhi. Of the 76 km stretch, 54.2 km lies in Delhi while the remaining 21.5 km falls in Haryana. Conceived under the Delhi Master Plan 2021, it will also link the proposed IICC in Dwarka via the Dwarka Expressway, as per a TNN report. No foreign voters in Bihar SIR list; Modi brings divisive agenda: CPI(ML)
Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya has welcomed the interim order of the Supreme Court on the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voters list in Bihar. He said the Election Commission of India (ECI) is forced to back off from its stand on the matter and hoped that the poll body will ensure transparency in preparing voters' lists and provide details for the reasons of the omission of voters published in the draft list. Countering Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on Independence Day that illegal immigration is threatening the country's demography, Mr. Bhattacharya said the SIR exercise in Bihar did not bring out a single case of illegal immigrants in the State. 'PM Modi gave his longest Independence Day speech, but the important point is that the theme of Independence Day is now being reduced to partition. It is as if the government is trying to finish the incomplete agenda of partition,' he said. He maintained that out of the 65 lakh voters who have been disenfranchised, no one was a foreign national. 'But once again, Modi ji has brought back that agenda, completely unsubstantiated, the bogey of illegal immigration, infiltration. And the things that they are doing to change our demography, taking away all jobs, occupying land, getting married to women and forcing conversion. This is a total anti-immigrant agenda of the RSS and BJP. This is what led to partition, perhaps they want another partition...' he said. He asked how the Centre concluded on the number of foreign nationals entering India illegally, when there has been no Census since 2011. 'It has created a tone of terror in the country, it has created major insecurity, and when you sort of view it together with the ongoing SIR, the backdoor NRC, the ongoing so-called police verification drive, the MHA circular, so it creates before us the danger of a huge social division and the creation of a permanent category of disenfranchised people,' he said.
