States must announce cooperative policy by January 31, says Amit Shah
Mr. Shah said that the National Cooperative Policy will be announced soon and it will be effective from 2025 to 2045. He said that under the National Cooperative Policy, each State's cooperative policy will be formulated according to the cooperative conditions of that State and specific goals will be set.
He said that bringing discipline, innovation, and transparency to the cooperative sector across the country will be achieved through the Model National Cooperative Policy Act. The Minister added that the creation of 2 lakh Primary Agricultural Credit Societies should be completed by February 2026.
Mr. Shah chaired a 'Manthan Baithak' with the Ministers of Cooperation of all States on Monday (June 30, 2025). He emphasised that for a country with a population of 140 crore, the growth of GDP and GSDP, and the creation of jobs were important. He said that cooperation was the only option for generating employment for every individual and the Ministry of Cooperation was established four years ago for this reason.
The Minister said that with sensitivity, cooperation must be revitalised for the welfare of millions of small farmers and rural people in the country because there are immense opportunities in the cooperative sector.

Mr. Shah said that among the 60 initiatives to develop the sector, the creation of the National Cooperative Database was important. He said that the database has been created so that cooperative institutions at the national, state, district and tehsil levels can collectively realise the government's goal to open a cooperative in every village in the next five years.
The Minister said that there were three main reasons behind the weakening of the cooperative movement in India. He said that over time, the laws were not changed, which the Narendra Modi government has now amended.
Mr. Shah added that the cooperative activities were neither expanded nor adapted with time. He mentioned that earlier, recruitments in cooperatives were done on nepotism, which is why the idea of the Tribhuvan Sahkari University was conceived.

Reports indicate that anti-social groups are establishing their modules, particularly in Cooch Behar, which raises concerns about the safety and security of the country. In both BJP-ruled and non-BJP-ruled states, the identity cards of migrant laborers are being scrutinized. During questioning, many have admitted to being from Bangladesh and have mentioned three locations in Bengal—Barasat, Madhyamgram, and Siliguri—where they obtained fake identity documents. Bhattacharya claimed that the livelihoods of migrant laborers from Bengal, who have gone to other states leaving their families behind, are being threatened by Bangladeshi infiltrators and Rohingyas. 'Even in Kolkata, there is a colony in Kasba known as Gulshan Colony. How did this colony come up suddenly? What about those living behind the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate? Can they provide any identification? The ruling government is pushing this state and its people toward danger. Our stance is very clear: only citizens of Bharat should reside here. Just as fake voters have been identified in Bihar, fake voters will also be identified here.' Meanwhile, according to sources within the TMC , Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will hold a meeting with Trinamool MPs on Monday. 'Bangladeshi language': TMC's Abhishek Banerjee says Delhi Police insulted Bangla; seeks apology from Amit Shah
Abhishek Banerjee (left), Amit Shah (ANI) NEW DELHI: Senior Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday hit out at BJP, after a letter from Delhi police referred to Bengali as 'Bangladeshi language,' terming it a calculated insult by the union government and an attempt to strip language of its identity, while labeling Bengali-speaking Indians as 'outsiders. ' Calling the move "a shocking escalation" in the targeting of Bengali-speaking people, Banerjee accused the BJP-led central government of systematically attempting to malign Bengal and erase its cultural identity. 'This is not a mere clerical error. It is yet another calculated attempt by the BJP to defame Bengal, undermine our cultural identity, and equate West Bengal with Bangladesh for narrow political propaganda,' he said in a post on social media platform X. The Trinamool MP went on to term the reference to Bengali as a foreign language a 'direct violation' of Article 343 and the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, which recognises Bangla (Bengali) as one of India's official languages. 'There is no language called 'Bangladeshi'. To call Bangla a foreign language is not just an insult, it's an attack on our identity, culture, and belonging. Bengalis are not outsiders in their own homeland,' he added. The TMC leader further alleged that Bengali-speaking citizens have been routinely 'targeted, harassed, and detained' in BJP-ruled states over the past few months and that this incident is part of a broader pattern of discrimination. Banerjee labelled the BJP as "Bangla Birodhi" (anti-Bengal) and "Zamindar" (feudal), accusing the party of disrespecting India's cultural diversity and thriving on divisive politics. 'Bangla and Bengalis are Indian. Bangla is our pride. We will not allow our identity to be trampled,' he added. The TMC leader demanded immediate suspension of the investigating officer named in the letter, inspector Amit Dutt, and sought a formal, public apology from the Delhi Police, the BJP, and the union home ministry, led by Amit Shah .
