KAPIT: Bumiputera women entrepreneurs in Sarawak are gaining empowerment through MARA initiatives, including financing, business premises, and training programmes.
Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang revealed that MARA has allocated RM33 million this year to support 1,156 Sarawak entrepreneurs.
She noted that RM955,000 was distributed under the DanaNITA scheme, benefiting 26 women entrepreneurs as of July 2025.
'As of July 2025, 243 entrepreneurs received financing totalling RM30.1 million, with 92 women entrepreneurs securing RM6.8 million,' she said.
Rubiah added that nine Kapit women entrepreneurs recently received RM377,700 in financing under various MARA schemes.
She spoke at the Kapit Division Women Empowerment Programme 2025 held at Dewan Suarah.
MARA has also provided 383 business premises in Sarawak, achieving a 96 per cent occupancy rate by July.
These premises have supported 158 women entrepreneurs, generating RM53.4 million in sales and creating 1,045 jobs.
Additionally, MARA allocated RM1.2 million for business digitalisation through MERIT, BEST, DIGITALBIZ, and ADAPT programmes.
As of July, 398 entrepreneurs received grants worth RM875,000 under these initiatives.
Rubiah emphasised that women now play a crucial role in economic development, aligning with MARA's 2025-2030 Women Empowerment Action Plan.
The plan includes 17 strategic initiatives covering skills training, financing, and digital marketing.
'Women who rock the cradle can move the world,' she said, urging the programme to bring MARA closer to the people.
She hopes the initiative will further support Bumiputera women entrepreneurs in Sarawak. - Bernama

Felcra posts RM178mil profit, distributes RM101mil to participants

PASIR SALAK: Felcra Bhd has announced a profit of RM178 million for the period up to April 2025, marking an increase from the previous year. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed that RM101 million will be distributed to 74,300 participants across the country in stages. 'I commend Felcra Bhd for sustaining strong performance, with a nearly RM2 million rise compared to last year,' he said during the 2025 First Interim Distributable Profit Declaration ceremony. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang and Felcra Bhd CEO Datuk Idris Lasim. Ahmad Zahid highlighted Felcra's role in national food security through its MRQ 107 paddy, a local fragrant rice variety. He noted that Seberang Perak's 3,400-hectare paddy fields, managed with modern techniques, yield an average of eight metric tonnes per hectare annually. 'We anticipate over 27,000 metric tonnes of paddy, translating to 16,000 metric tonnes of rice yearly, benefiting thousands of families,' he added. Idris attributed the strong interim distribution performance to efficient estate management and cost-saving initiatives. 'Optimised fertiliser and pesticide use reduced operational costs by 15 per cent while increasing yield per hectare by 49 per cent,' he explained. Felcra's oil palm projects also saw an 81 per cent rise in net profit, he noted. He stressed that while crude palm oil prices impact profit distribution, estate performance improvements remain the key driver. - Bernama

In addition, Ahmad Zahid said Felcra Bhd continues to make history in strengthening national food security through the commercialisation of Felcra's MRQ 107 paddy - a local fragrant rice variety that serves as a high-quality alternative to imported fragrant rice. He stated that the Seberang Perak area, covering more than 3,400 hectares and cultivated using modern methods by Felcra, has shown encouraging performance with an average yield reaching eight metric tonnes per hectare annually.
