Xbox Boss Wants Fans to Get Used to PlayStation Ports

Yahoo27-01-2025

Microsoft's Phil Spencer has appeared in a new set of interviews, reiterating in no uncertain terms that Xbox games will continue get PlayStation ports whether fans like it or not. Microsoft continues to face criticism for dropping exclusives in favor of multiplatform releases, in response to which Spencer has stressed that Xbox's brand identity has 'evolved.'
When journalist Destin Legarie asked Spencer if he can confirm that Starfield will remain an Xbox exclusive for the time being, the executive responded with a solid, 'No.' Spencer added that he doesn't see the need to gatekeep Xbox Game Studios titles because 'business success' matters.
In a separate interview with GamerTag Radio, Spencer said that Microsoft isn't giving up on its hardware, but that doesn't mean that the company wants to 'put walls up' around its content and studios.
'Whether it's cloud, whether it's PC, whether it's handheld, whether it's phone, whether it's PlayStation, even Nintendo,' Spencer continued. 'Expect our games to show up in more and more places.'
According to latest rumors, Gears of War and Halo games are also in the works for PS5. Sounds surreal but expect the PS6 to launch with Xbox titles.

Microsoft is moving its Build conference out of Seattle for 2026

Microsoft isn't planning to host its Build developer conference in its home city of Seattle next year. The conference is being relocated, and Microsoft has reportedly canceled all its holds for Build at the Seattle convention center 'for all future years.' 'Our plans for Build 2026 have changed, but our vision to empower builders and developers at a major event next year remains unchanged,' said an unnamed Microsoft spokesperson in a statement to The Seattle Medium. 'We appreciate the city and community for their support over the years.' We asked Microsoft to clarify why it's moving out of Seattle, but the company provided the same statement. It's not clear where Build will be located next year, or even if Microsoft may decide to make it an online-only event. The Seattle Medium reports that the decision to move Build could have been related to attendee experiences in downtown Seattle. It cites an unnamed email that claims Build attendees had 'cited the general uncleanliness of the streets, visible drug use, and the presence of unhoused individuals.' Microsoft has held Build in Seattle since 2017, apart from the pandemic years of 2020 to 2022 when it was online-only. Build originally started as a successor for the company's Professional Developers Conference (PDC) and MIX events in 2011, and was held initially in the Anaheim convention center in California. Microsoft then hosted Build on its own campus in 2012, before moving the developer conference to the Moscone Center in San Francisco for four years. Attendees at Build this year were met with heavier security than usual as hundreds of protesters outside the venue gathered to protest against Microsoft's contracts with the Israeli government. Protesters released balloons with alarms attached, unfurled banners, dropped leaflets, and even disrupted Microsoft's Build keynotes and sessions.

The Reason There's No More ‘Starfield' DLC

Starfield There was a new Xbox showcase this past week with a lot of solid offerings, but what was supposed to be one of the biggest games of this entire era was nowhere to be found. That would be Bethesda's Starfield, the new IP from the developer that Microsoft previously bragged was the studio's biggest launch ever. Starfield was released in September of 2023, and its first DLC, Shattered Space, was released in September of 2024. So, Starfield fans were hoping that this showcase would debut another DLC that was going to be out this fall, despite how late of notice that might have been. Nope, didn't happen. And I think when you examine how this game has performed and the support it's gotten, you'll understand why. Starfield I don't care about the current numbers on this Steamdb chart but see if you can guess where the launch of Shattered Space was here. Can you see it? Do you need a microscope? Yes, it's that little blip in September to the right of the middle. The launch of the expansion took the game to a 21,000 peak, double-ish what the game was averaging before that. If you want a comparison point, here's the launch of Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty expansion, three years after the game's (poor) launch. Starfield FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder It's obvious, and the expansion went on to have about a 30% attach rate to the original game. Some may say that Xbox players who got the full bundle for launch may have played it more, but it's not like this game did not sell very well on Steam, and I don't think the numbers were wildly better elsewhere. Bethesda and Microsoft do not believe there's enough of an audience for a second expansion. They're right, clearly. The Shattered Space expansion was not even good, for that matter, so in addition to just making something, they'd have to make it a lot better. Combine this with Bethesda being half a decade behind on making Elder Scrolls VI, and there's just no chance this was going to happen. Bethesda has attempted to channel Skyrim and open up mod tools for Starfield, but that has disappointed that community as it hasn't been good enough support, and big scene modders have abandoned the game entirely. Starfield should have been a game that received ongoing support and built itself out with features and additions and content like we saw with the game it emulated, No Man's Sky. But Bethesda is not Hello Games, and Starfield was not given this support. It got a vehicle update, some new base items. The ability to not completely wreck all your items when switching ships. Not much, nor did it deliver a good DLC, and the numbers reflect that. Starfield's done. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram.
