Sikkim CS reviews preparations for state-level Independence Day celebrations
At a coordination committee meeting held at the state secretariat here, he reviewed the programme schedule for the state-level independence day celebrations to be held at Paljor stadium on August 15.
The chief secretary sought the details of arrangements for national flag hoisting, parade, band performances, award distribution, illumination of government buildings, cleaning and beautification of public spaces, seating, and other related activities, the official said.
Telang also sought details of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign 2025 underway in Sikkim from August 2 to August 15, which is a nationwide initiative to promote patriotism and unity by encouraging citizens to hoist the national flag at their homes, offices, and public spaces.
Telang directed the district collectors to ensure the participation of schools and residents from remote areas and involve the public through competitions, quizzes, and demonstrations. He outlined a phased approach and issued instructions to departments and the Collectors for its effective implementation. PTI KDK RG

India extends condolences to government of Ghana over helicopter crash
New Delhi, Aug 7 (PTI) India on Thursday extended condolences to the government and people of Ghana over the tragic crash of a Ghanaian military helicopter a day ago in which several people including two ministers of the west African country died. The Ministry of External Affairs said, 'Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and all those affected by this unfortunate incident." Ghana's defence and environment ministers and other top officials were killed in the incident, according to reports. 'The Government of India expresses its profound sorrow on the tragic crash of a Ghanaian Air Force helicopter in the Ashanti Region of Ghana on August 6, 2025, which resulted in the loss of several lives, including the Hon'ble Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, and the Hon'ble Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed," the MEA said in a statement. 'We extend our deepest condolences to the Government and the people of the Republic of Ghana during this time of national mourning. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and all those affected by this unfortunate incident. May the departed souls rest in eternal peace," it said. Police Case Filed Against BJP MP, 2 Others After Driver Dies By Suicide In Karnataka
Bengaluru: A police case has been filed against BJP MP K Sudhakar and two others after a 30-year-old man, who worked as a driver, named them in a note before he died by suicide in Karnataka's Chikkaballapur. The driver, M Babu, died by suicide on Thursday morning, following which his wife, Shilpa, filed a police complaint based on the note he left behind. The first information report (FIR) charged Mr Sudhakar and two others, Nagesh and Manjunath, with financial fraud, abetment to suicide and atrocity under the BNS and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. In the note, Babu alleged Mr Sudhakar and Nagesh cheated him of Rs 25 lakh by promising him a job. He also accused a zilla parisha accounts assistant of pushing him to die by suicide. The police said Babu had been working as a contract driver for the chief accounts officer in the zilla panchayat for over six years. "A suicide was reported at Chikkaballapura DC office premises. We received information at around 8.30 am that someone had died by hanging from a tree," Superintendent of Police Kushal Chouksey told news agency PTI. Babu alleged Nagesh and the accounts assistant "cheated him of several lakhs of rupees", claiming they could help him secure a government job "using the MP's influence". "These are serious allegations. A thorough investigation will determine whether the MP was directly involved or if his name was misused. We are examining all angles," the officer said. In the FIR, Mr Sudhakar has been named as accused 1, Nagesh as accused 2 and Manjunatha as accused 3. Earlier in the day, Mr Sudhakar told reporters in Delhi that he was "deeply pained" by the death but denied any connection to the tragedy. "I heard about the suicide at the DC office in Chikkaballapura. It has deeply saddened me. I offer my condolences to the family. I have never seen or met this person, Babu, in my public life," Mr Sudhakar said. The MP, a former minister and three-time MLA, said he helped many young people secure employment and did not understand why his name was mentioned in the note. "I have no information about the other two individuals named in the note. I've heard that Nagesh and Manjunath allegedly promised Babu a job and took Rs 10-15 lakh from him. I don't know them personally," the BJP MP said.

Hyderabad: In a strategic move ahead of Independence Day, the BJP is gearing up to transform the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign into a powerful, state-wide patriotic drive in Telangana. With plans to distribute 40 lakh national flags across households, schools, and institutions, the initiative seeks not only to celebrate India's independence but also to invoke the spirit of Operation Sindoor, a mission the party credits as a major success under the NDA govt. This marks a shift from the programme's relatively modest implementation in previous years. First launched during the BJP's national executive meeting in Hyderabad three years ago, the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign is being revived as a dynamic outreach initiative aimed at energising the party base and reinforcing nationalistic sentiment across all sections of society. To ensure effective execution, the Telangana BJP has constituted both state-level and district-level committees, which have begun organising events that will lead up to a grand culmination on Aug 15.
