Kota Kinabalu: Tambunan emerged champions in the 71st Sabah State-wide Boxing Championship held at the Damai Multi-Purpose Hall , here from April 20-25. The team led by Fabian Tony Peter with Raymond Peter Gatulik, Nick Auddrey Alliun and Mohd Rayyan Rizqin as coaches clinched the overall title with seven golds and four silvers to top the medal tally. The Armed Forces 5th division, who only managed three golds, four silvers and five bronzes, came in second place followed by Papar with two golds and one silver. The gold winners for Tambunan were Zeffenzie (60kg elite), Steverine Marcus (63.5kg elite), Jonathan John (71kg elite), Jeffery Caserra (75kg elite), Liew Haw Yee (80kg elite), Daniel Aymon (86kg elite) and Mohd Fareez (92kg++ elite), while the silvers came from Enoel Hildi Genda (48kg elite), Ed Ryan (51kg elite), Raylone Raymond Gatulik (57kg elite), Mohd Salahuddin Aqwa (67kg elite). In addition they also won a junior title through Raymarzio Raymond Gatulik in the 48kg category. A total of 180 boxers throughout the State took part in the one-week competition organised by Sabah Boxing Association. A tougher challenge now awaits the Malaysian husband-and-wife team, who have booked a last-eight clash with Thailand's world No 6 Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran tomorrow. Dechapol-Supissara have been in strong form at all the BWF tournaments this year. Soon Huat and Shevon are still chasing their first title of the season, having fallen short in the early rounds at most tournaments. Kota Kinabalu: The setting up of a recreation and welfare club for former Sabah sepak takraw players has received the support of former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said. The call was made by Abdullah Hj Majid, who was the organising chairman of a reunion dinner (Majlis Reunion Legend-Legend Sepaktakraw Sabah) for former State players held here in Asia City on Tuesday. He said the aim of the club is to appreciate the contributions of all the players who have worn the Sabah jersey and brought glory to the state of Sabah and also to the country. Salleh, who was the guest of honour, has given his blessing for the club to be established so that the welfare of the players will be taken care of, especially during hard times. Abdullah added that they are planning to publish a 'Sabah Sepak Takraw Legend' magazine where the biodata of players from the 70s, 80s, 90s will be featured along with photographs involving them competing for the state and country. Puma unveiled the official match ball for the Premier League, set to grace pitches, parks and gardens across the world for players and fans alike ahead of the 2025/26 season. The launch event took place at the Puma Flagship Store in Sunway Pyramid, the brand's largest flagship store in Asia. Guests given a first look at the new Puma Orbita Ultimate PL. 'Football has always been deeply embedded in Puma's DNA, with a legacy that spans decades and connects us to many legendary teams and players. 'Today, Puma is proud to carry that legacy forward as the official match ball provider for the most prestigious football league in the world,' said Steven Tan, Country Manager of Puma Malaysia.
