Lower temperatures and increased humidity could spike malaria, dengue, chikungunya, and other diseases: Telangana DPH
The advisory warns that the combination of lower temperatures and increased humidity could lead to a spike in vector-borne and waterborne diseases such as malaria, dengue, chikungunya, acute gastroenteritis, jaundice, and typhoid.
To curb the spread of mosquito-borne diseases, the advisory has urged residents to secure doors and windows with mosquito screens, use repellents, maintain domestic drains to avoid water stagnation, and cover septic tanks with mesh. Citizens have also been advised to observe 'Friday Dry Day' each week to eliminate stagnant water around their homes.
To prevent waterborne infections, the public was encouraged to drink only filtered or boiled water, maintain strict hand hygiene, especially before and after meals and avoid consuming stale or roadside food.
'With the threat of airborne infections such as viral fevers and influenza, people should refrain from handshakes, use hand sanitizers frequently, and cover their mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing. Those experiencing flu-like symptoms, fever, cough, headache, sore throat, and body aches are advised to visit the nearest government health facility. For emergencies, the public can dial 108 for ambulance services,' as per the advisory.
It added that special beds, IV fluids, and essential medicines were arranged across public health facilities. ANMs, ASHAs, and Anganwadi workers are equipped with medicines and ORS sachets to respond swiftly to any health emergencies.

Hyderabad: The Health department on Friday issued an advisory in the wake of the forecast of heavy rains for the next seven days by the IMD. The officials have urged the citizens to take precautions against seasonal illness. The Director of Public Health Dr B Ravinder Nayak said that as IMD-Hyderabad has issued warning alert of heavy rainfall for next seven days across Telangana with lower temperature and higher humidity, which may lead to seasonal illnesses, especially vector, water and air borne diseases. To guard against these, the DPH has issued a few tips to stay healthy during this season battling the mosquito menace to fight Malaria, Dengue and Chikungunya. The officials have advised citizens to follow instructions like doors and windows are to be secured with mosquito nets / screens, beds and cribs are to be covered with mosquito nets, use Mosquito repellents as precaution, maintain domestic drains to prevent water stagnation, domestic septic tanks should be covered with a mesh to prevent mosquito breeding, observance of 'Friday- Dry Day' every week to get rid of stagnant water around your house. Post-flood challenges: Steps to check infectious diseases initiated
1 2 3 4 V aranasi: The health department has taken essential steps to combat infectious diseases in flood-affected areas of Varanasi by engaging 24 medical teams in flood relief camps. Chief medical officer Dr Sandeep Chaudhary said that as per the instructions of district magistrate Satyendra Kumar, 24 medical teams have been deployed in health camps in flood-affected areas. Additionally, preventive measures are being taken to combat infectious diseases in nearby areas. The CMO said that doctors and paramedical staff are deployed in camps to provide continuous care to flood victims. To prevent diseases caused by floodwaters, 572 patients were treated, 2,782 ORS packets, and over 35,000 chlorine tablets were distributed in health camps by Thursday morning. Dr Piyush Rai, the nodal officer to oversee medical services in flood areas, said that preventive measures are being implemented in flood relief camps and affected areas to prevent waterborne diseases. Chlorine tablets are being distributed to purify drinking water, reducing the risk of waterborne diseases. Fever patients are being identified and brought to camps for treatment as part of a campaign similar to the door-to-door visit initiative. In all 28 wards and neighbourhoods under 9 urban primary health centres, ASHA workers are distributing chlorine tablets and sending fever patients to nearby camps for examination. ASHA workers are also demonstrating chlorination to families by dissolving a chlorine tablet in 20 litres of water. Additionally, 45 domestic larva checking personnel hired by DUDA are deployed in flood-affected colonies for larva checking and anti-larva spraying. World ORS Day: Kenvue's 'Diarrhoea Se Darr Nahi' Initiative Highlights The Importance Of Oral Rehydration Solutions
New Delhi: On occasion of World ORS Day, Kenvue (makers of ORSL® ) under its 'Diarrhoea Se Darr Nahi' public health initiative hosted a series of impactful and engaging on-ground activities to spread awareness about the importance of Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS), a formula recommended by WHO (World Health Organization) in treatment of diarrhoea.
