10 News+ struggles to reach highs of The Project in first week on-air
10 News+ debuted on Monday, filling the void left after The Project was axed following 16 years on-air.
Helmed by former Seven journalists Amelia Brace and Denham Hitchcock, the show tails the network's 5pm local bulletins, giving viewers an in-depth report on the day's biggest stories from 6pm.
When announcing the new program, Paramount Australia's Vice President News Martin White said the offering was 'completely different to anything else in the market.'
And while intrigue bolstered opening night ratings, with an average national broadcast audience of 291,000 tuning in on Monday evening, the show had almost halved its TV viewership by week's end.
On Tuesday evening, 10 News+ recorded an average of 244,000 viewers, before attracting 205,000 on Wednesday and 159,000 on Thursday. Friday numbers dipped again with an average audience of 152,000.
Numbers were far more promising when factoring in on-demand views, including on 10 Play, with a total reach of 769,000 on Monday, 743,000 on Tuesday, 586,000 on Wednesday, 468,000 on Thursday and 655,000 on Friday.
However, most concerning among Ten executives would be the fall in figures from The Project' s final episode on June 27, in which an average of 478,000 (873,000 total) people tuned in.
The network doubled down on its step to try something new, saying their bid to entice viewers to 10News+ would be a 'marathon, not a sprint.'
A spokesperson said the network was 'taking a long-term, multi-platform view of audience development.'
'Building a loyal news audience takes time, and we are prepared for gradual growth as audiences discover and connect with our unique approach to news delivery across many platforms,' the statement said.
'10 is fully committed to 10 News+. This is a marathon, not a sprint. We are investing in building a sustainable, quality multi-platform news service that will grow and evolve with our audience's needs over time.'
Meanwhile, former Project co-host Georgie Tunny officially joined the 10 News+ team from Thursday, just shy of a week since her teary goodbye on the panel.
'I've always been a fan of news delivered differently and am excited to be staying with the 10 family,' Tunny said.
'Can't wait to see where this new chapter leads!'
The journalist, who began her career at the ABC, joined Ten after Carrie Bickmore took extended leave from The Project in early 2022.

Skegss covers Sheryl Crow's 'If It Makes You Happy' for Like A Version
If it makes you happy (and it will), Skegss has popped into the Like A Version studio to cover a Sheryl Crow classic. Fresh off a temperature-rising winter tour across Aus, the Byron Bay rockers have turned their hand to 'If It Makes You Happy', the American singer's country-twanged 1996 hit about feeling blue despite her debut album's success. "I like her lyrics, she always seems to have fun, comical lyrics," says Skegss frontman Ben Reed. "'Cos she's got that country-esque storytelling, she paints a good picture, but has a lot of fun with it… She's a real clever lyricist." How did the group land on the track? It wasn't easy, with the boys saying they were struggling to come up with a solid Like A Version. It makes sense given the band's first crack in 2019 with Pixies' 'Here Comes Your Man' remains a hit, with Ben saying they're still asked about the track six years on. After throwing around a few ideas, Ben remembered his sisters blasting 'If It Makes You Happy' on repeat back in the early 2000s. First jam, it all clicked, with the band's fuzzy surf rock take adding a new dimension to the pop classic. Skegss might just have another fan favourite on their hands. Check out more from Skegss return to Like A Version below. Bluey episode temporarily removed from ABC streamer iView for unexpected reason
An episode for the beloved Aussie children's program Bluey has been pulled from ABC's streaming platform, iView. While the popular Season 2 episode, titled 'Hammerbarn', is still available to stream on Disney+ in the US and the UK, it no longer appears on ABC's streaming service in Australia. The much-loved episode, in which Bluey and the Heeler family visit their local hardware store, was temporarily removed in recent days as chain store Bunnings restocked their line of Bluey-themed garden gnomes and other show-related merchandise. According to the Daily Telegraph, the deal was struck between the BBC Studios, which holds the merchandising rights for the series, and the hardware giant. However, the government-funded ABC cannot affiliate itself with a brand or partnership and thus banned the episode from iView for the duration of the Bunnings campaign. 'This campaign is a BBC Studios and Bunnings partnership. As the ABC cannot align with a commercial brand or partnership, the Bluey episode 'Hammerbarn' will temporarily be unavailable on ABC iView while the Bunnings Hammerbarn campaign is live,' an ABC representative told the masthead. 'However 'Hammerbarn' will return to ABC iview at a later date.'' has reached out to the ABC for comment. A Bunnings representative has told that the company is disappointed with the removal of the episode. 'We are disappointed that the broadcaster has chosen to remove the popular 'Hammerbarn' episode, particularly given Bluey fans can buy merchandise from a range of retailers and sites both in Australia and overseas,' Bunnings spokesperson Melissa O'Neill told us. 'It's been great to see so many kids and their parents enjoying the Bluey experience in our stores and, unlike last year, it's sad to think that they can't go home and enjoy the episode.' The Bunnings campaign first kicked off last year, with the hardware giant selling Bluey gnomes similar to those that feature in the 'Hammerbarn' episode. Bunnings also renamed six of its warehouse stores Hammerbarn earlier this year, and this week they reignited their campaign with a new range of merchandise while also holding Bluey-themed workshops in stores. Kate McMahon, the co-host of the Bluey podcast Gotta Be Done has since weighed in on the move to pull the episode from the streamer. 'Hammerbarn is one of the most iconic Bluey episodes and so to have it removed from the platform is a shame,' McMahon said, as per the Daily Telegraph. McMahon noted that Bluey has had many other partnerships in the past, so she's 'curious' why this one led to a removal on an episode. 'Will ABC review all episodes now given Bluey has so many commercial partnerships?' she wondered. 'A lot of parents rely on an episode of Bluey to get them through the day so to lose one like this is really tough.'' The development comes amid figures that indicate the homegrown Aussie animation is one of the best TV shows to come out of Australia. The viewership figures speak for themselves, with millions of people inviting Bluey into their homes. 'In 2024, Australians couldn't get enough of our favourite Blue Heeler with 96 million hours of Bluey content viewed on ABC iview,' Jennifer Collins, ABC's Director of Screen, told earlier this month. 'We're incredibly proud that Bluey has captured the hearts and minds of audiences across the globe. The series is quintessentially Australian and has the remarkable ability to resonate across generations, making it a standout in children's television content.' But that's almost nothing compared to the success it had in the US where it broadcasts on Disney+. Reports were it had 55.62 billion minutes of viewing time in 2024, which is 927 million hours or 38.6 million days, making it the most streamed show in the US.

Aussie woman's hair catches fire in bar
An Aussie woman has gone viral after accidentally setting her hair on fire during her birthday celebrations – without even noticing. Fitness coach and owner of Fit and Nourish, Grace Leach, was celebrating her 24th birthday last Saturday at luxury rooftop bar Arte in Maroochydore, a coastal town in Queensland, when the shocking moment unfolded. After a bottomless brunch with friends earlier in the day, the group kicked on into the early hours of the morning, but unfortunately, the birthday girl was sent on her way home by 9pm. In the now-viral clip, which has racked up more than 46 million views on TikTok, she can be seen leaning over her cake to blow out the candles when her hair suddenly catches alight. Four of her friends immediately jumped into action, quickly batting out the flames while she giggled, completely oblivious. 'I was so drunk I didn't even notice,' she told 'Thank god for my guardian angel friends.' The Sunshine Coast fitness coach said she woke up to hundreds of missed calls and texts the next morning. 'I thought I'd done something really bad,' she laughed. 'I had no memory of it at all.' But instead of scandal, she discovered her hilarious misfortune had gone global. 'Her friends are real for putting it out with their bare hands too,' wrote one viewer. 'I aspire to be this level of unbothered,' said another. 'I wish I was as nonchalant as her,' wrote a third. 'I think it got so much interest because of how unfazed I was by it,' she said. Now dubbed 'the hair girl', Grace says strangers have started recognising her around town. 'My business' waitlist has been extended until October as well,' she said. Thankfully, Grace's hair was 'completely fine' but after all of that, she doesn't even remember the cake. Arte's rooftop has since responded with a clip of their own, showing CCTV footage of the moment – even offering to shout her a few free drinks.
