EastEnders set for second iconic return as jaws drop over Zoe Slater comeback
EastEnders is tipped to be welcoming back another iconic character with others also teased on the BBC soap, and two cast members have told The Mirror what they know
There's another big EastEnders return on the cards, and two cast members have had their say.
Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, two stars of the BBC soap addressed the reports Max Branning was heading back to Walford. It comes after Zoe Slater's own bombshell comeback on Monday night that left fans' jaws dropping.
Michelle Ryan reprised her role on the BBC soap after 20 years, with Zoe having left Walford for good in 2005. Monday kicked off the comeback, as Alfie Moon was called by a desperate Stacey Slater, Zoe's cousin.
Having stolen Stacey's credit card, Zoe was shown looking worse for wear after a bender with Alfie soon greeting her saying: "Zoe." We can confirm that Zoe will be onscreen for Tuesday and Wednesday too, before she returns permanently in the summer.
But Zoe isn't the only familiar face heading back to the show, with Max actor Jake Wood soon joining her it seems. Reports emerged weeks ago that Max was one of the names returning to the show, while Jacqueline Jossa told The Mirror there were multiple faces rejoining the soap.
She remained coy when asked about Max coming back before letting slip there's returns planned. Her co-star Scott Maslen also addressed the return, and shared his hopes for a further Branning comeback.
Jacqueline commented: "I have seen the rumours. I feel like you would have to ask Ben [Wadey], I'd love it. They tell us nothing. I feel like they tell me nothing because if they tell me, I will tell the world by accident.
"I know nothing. It's Max Branning. I'd love him back but he's super busy. We'll ask Ben, we'll beg Ben. Where is he?" Jacqueline went on: "I've heard some rumbles. I heard Kate Oates' source say maybe there are gonna be some returns and for me that excites me, whoever it is."
As for Scott, he told us "it may well be" that Max will come back to the show after four years, and perhaps another of Jack's siblings won't be far behind. We asked Scott about the chances of Carol Jackson returning to the show.
He seemed very keen to see the comeback, amid reports that Max's son Oscar Branning will be on the show soon too. Speaking of historic characters returning, Scott told us the show did this well, making all kinds of returns possible.
He told us: "Well listen, my family is strong. The Brannings have got a long list of very strong characters, my sister, my brother, they are all brilliant. They would be more than welcome back. That is the beauty of this show.
"The work you put in, it doesn't go away. It is always manifesting itself in new ways, in new kids or a new person, so there's always [ a possibility]. That's what happens. There's always people going, people coming back. It's the amazing strength of this show because we can use people who are already a part of the history."

ITV This Morning stars fight back tears in tribute to 'charming' Air India crash victims
This Morning stars Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard were left emotional as they paid tribute to two 'absolutely charming' Air India crash victims This Morning presenters Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard were visibly choked with emotion as they fought to contain their tears during a poignant moment on the show. The pair paid a heartfelt tribute to Jamie and Fiongal Greenlaw-Meek, a couple who tragically lost their lives in the Air India crash, remembering them as 'absolutely charming'. In the ITV daytime show's episode on Tuesday (June 17), Cat and Ben began with a touching tribute to the couple who were on the ill-fated flight that crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad bound for Gatwick on Thursday (June 12). As they read out a statement from the grieving family, both Cat and Ben seemed on the brink of tears. With her voice trembling, Cat started: "We'd like to start by taking a moment to send our heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of Jamie and Fiongal Greenlaw-Meek who tragically lost their lives in the Air India crash.", reports Wales Online. Ben continued, his voice filled with emotion: "As more details continue to emerge from the devastating tragedy, their loved ones have asked us to share a statement on their behalf." With their voices cracking, they read out the statement: "It is with profound sadness and unimaginable heartbreak that we confirm that both Jamie and Fiongal were passengers on the Air India flight that tragically crashed in India.'" Cat continued to read: "They were a bright light in so many of our lives, deeply loved as sons, brothers and friends. Their warmth, kindness, humour and generous spirits touched everyone who knew them. We are all beyond devastated by the news and are struggling to come to terms with the potential of a life without.." Ben concluded: "They would want us to spread positive energy to the world, especially at this time, may peace and love prevail. In the face of darkness, spread light, love and laughter. "We were fortunate enough to spend some time with both of them. Fiognal on the show of course, Jamie behind the scenes." Cat and Ben fondly recalled their interactions with Fiognal and Jamie during their time on This Morning. Cat shared: "Just absolutely charming gentlemen who were so positive, I've still got my Palo Santo that he gave me and the rosemary that I burn." Ben added: "Fiognal came him last time, he left us with a little care package didn't he, and I've got the stuff to cleanse the energy in my room, some grounding stones, the little bell to ting and some spritz. "And when we heard the news, obviously it was heartbreaking that the lives of these two young men that were so full of joy and wonderful souls, have been tragically lost. "They will be really sorely missed and very warmly remembered by all of their friends and family of course." Fiongal Greenlaw-Meek, 39, made appearances on the ITV daytime show in January and April of this year, where he spoke about the Wellness Foundry, a healthy lifestyle company that he established with his husband, Jamie Meek, 45.

EXCLUSIVE BBC and TNT Sports SNUB Boris Becker for Wimbledon TV work despite now being allowed to return to UK after he was jailed and deported for £2.5m tax evasion
Boris Becker will not be part of the BBC 's Wimbledon coverage - even though he can now apply to return to the UK. The German has not worked for the Beeb at SW19 since he was jailed in April 2022 for hiding £2.5million in assets and loans to avoid paying debts. Becker was released after serving just eight months of his 30-month sentence, but was then deported from the country, barring him from even attending the All England Club. Under the terms of his conviction and deportation, the three-time Wimbledon champion has been eligible to apply to the Home Office for re-entry since October 2024 – and had hoped to be back at SW19 this summer. However, Mail Sport understands that the BBC has resisted the temptation to rehire Becker, even in the 40th-anniversary year of his famous first Wimbledon title. Becker – who remains the youngest men's singles champion following his 1985 victory aged just 17 – first joined the Beeb's team in 2002 and was a popular pundit and commentator for the broadcaster for two decades. Becker was deported from the UK in 2022 after serving eight months of a 30-month sentence for hiding £2.5million in assets and loans to avoid paying debts Since his release from prison, the 57-year-old has worked on TV again for TNT Sports, most recently appearing at the French Open earlier this month. But TNT also has no plans to use Becker at Wimbledon - despite the pay-TV channel now holding daily highlights rights, as well as sharing live coverage of the singles finals with the BBC. It remains unclear whether Becker will work for another broadcaster during the tournament or appear as a guest at the All England Club. The 57-year-old, who is releasing a book about his time in prison this September, has remained coy about a Wimbledon return in recent interviews. However, in April 2024, Becker admitted he was hopeful of making his commentary comeback at SW19 in 2025. 'I'm working hard with the authorities to have all the applications ready to be back for next year,' he said. 'I miss Wimbledon. It's part of my life. It's in my DNA. I don't think anyone alive knows Wimbledon as well as I do. But let's see who I'm working for there. 'After October 2024, I can be given permission from the Home Office. They decide, I don't decide.' It remains unclear whether Becker, who is releasing a book about his time in prison, will work for another broadcaster during the tournament or attend the Championships as a guest The BBC plan to unveil their Wimbledon line-up later this week, with Nick Kyrgios also omitted following his controversial stint last year. The Beeb faced strong criticism from senior MPs and women's campaigners for hiring the Australian bad boy in 2024, a year after he admitted assaulting an ex-girlfriend.

Naga Munchetty's row with 'devastated' mum over 'wicked' decision
BBC Breakfast star Naga Munchetty has opened up on a huge decision she made with her husband which has impacted her mum Naga Munchetty has confessed that her decision not to have children with husband James Haggar caused a "rift" with her mum before the duo eventually managed to smooth things over. The 50-year-old BBC host spoke to Ateh Jewel on HELLO!' s Second Act podcast about how her mother was originally "devastated" that Naga would not be giving her any grandchildren. However, Naga has said that her mum "gets it now" after seeing her daughter "thrive" in her television career and living a good life with her other half. She recalled: 'My mum was devastated; she was from a different generation. "(But she) gets it now. She is so proud of me and so happy to see me happy and thriving. It was a conscious (decision) and I am doing lots of other things and living a very fulfilling life. She doesn't think I've wasted an opportunity. My mum has evolved in that sense.' Naga and her husband James tied the knot in 2007 after dating for several years. He also enjoys a successful broadcasting career as a television director and broadcast consultant, directing Sky News' panel programme The Pledge. Before joining Sky, he had a long-term position as a senior director at CNBC International. He was also the senior director for Five News and OK TV for seven years prior to his role at CNBC, as well as a stint with ITV studios. The pair mutually decided to not have children due to their prosperous careers. Speaking to The Times, Naga previously shared her thoughts on the life choice. She said: "We never tried and I never miscarried, we just never really wanted them. We kept putting the decision off, then life got better for us, we became more selfish . . . and just didn't find the time." She also addressed strong opinions others had about her choice, telling The Sun that she was branded "wicked" for "denying" her mother of grandchildren, adding: "It's quite interesting, isn't it, how people react?" Naga also discussed why she thinks the conversations surrounding women deciding to not have kids have changed in recent years. She said: "Once-up-on-a-time it used to be thought that if you had a career you were being selfish because you were just focusing on the career. "I don't think that is the attitude now. "Now it is just too hard, it's too expensive with childcare, and (lack of) flexibility in workplace. It is hard. "I am not saying you shouldn't have children, but there are more barriers to having children enjoyably." Naga has also candidly opened up about her health issues due to adenomyosis, which is a gynaecological condition that sees the lining of the womb grow into the muscular wall. The presenter suffered with painful heavy bleeding, fainting, vomiting and severe aching every two and a half weeks for 32 years before she finally received a private medical diagnosis of adenomyosis. Naga now takes medication "to suppress the production of my hormones" which helps with the symptoms she struggled with.
