Why Trump Media's Crypto Strategy Could Result in Huge Gains for Its Shareholders
Trump Media and Technology Group (NASDAQ: DJT) is an evolving and expanding company. It has gone from just focusing on social media to expanding out into video streaming, financial services, and also crypto. And it's that latter opportunity, in crypto, which may have the most potential to light a fire under the stock. Recently, Trump Media announced a big investment into crypto. It's out of the playbook of another stock, Strategy, which has amassed gains of nearly 3,000% in just the past five years. A strategy focused on buying Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) may not necessarily lead to those types of returns for Trump Media shareholders, but it could still be a positive catalyst for the stock. Trump Media raises more than $2.4 billion as part of crypto strategy On May 30, Trump Media announced it closed a private placement offering worth over $2.4 billion. And it says it plans to use around $2.3 billion of that to set up a bitcoin treasury and also for working capital needs and general corporate purposes. But the vast majority appears as though it will be spent on crypto, with Trump Media stating in the release, "The company's strategy will make Trump Media one of the top bitcoin holders among publicly traded U.S. firms." With Bitcoin trading at around $100,000, however, it won't be cheap to acquire the cryptocurrency. Assuming close to $2.3 billion were used to buy the digital currency, that would be enough for Trump Media to acquire around 23,000 bitcoins. A strategy right out of Strategy's playbook One stock that has benefited enormously from loading up on bitcoins is Strategy, which was formerly known as MicroStrategy. As of June 2, the company had close to 581,000 bitcoins, making it the largest corporate holder of the digital currency. By investing in Bitcoin, Strategy has seen its share price skyrocket. In five years, Strategy's stock has risen by close to 3,000% -- even though it struggled to grow its revenue (the company also provides business intelligence solutions, but evolved into primarily a bitcoin treasury). Unless Trump Media raises drastically more money for crypto purchases, it's not going to get anywhere near Strategy's stockpile. But if it's able to acquire more than 20,000 bitcoins, then that would still be enough to make its position among the largest in the corporate world. And by loading up on bitcoin, it could attract more crypto investors and lead to greater returns for the tech stock down the road. Should you buy shares of Trump Media? Trump Media's fundamentals aren't great. In the trailing 12 months, the company incurred an operating loss of more than $127 million on revenue totaling just $3.7 million. This is an extremely risky and speculative stock to own. Year to date, it's down more than 35%. Based on its fundamentals, there isn't much of a reason to invest in the business. But given the hype around crypto, buying bitcoins might lead to greater gains for investors, especially if Bitcoin continues to hit new heights. While I wouldn't expect Strategy-like returns for Trump Media's stock, favorable crypto conditions could give it another reason to rally. Ultimately, however, this is still an extremely speculative investment. Buying bitcoins may lead to greater gains for the stock, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they will last. By purchasing bitcoins and making that a key part of its strategy, Trump Media's stock could be highly vulnerable to Bitcoin's price fluctuations. In good times, that can lead to a soaring valuation, but if the cryptocurrency declines, then the reverse can happen. Unless you have a high risk tolerance and are bullish on crypto, you may still want to avoid Trump Media stock, despite its potential to soar. Disney Layoffs 2025: Should You Buy, Sell, or Hold DIS Stock Amid Entertainment Job Cuts?
Disney (DIS) is a household name thanks to its film and TV production, theme parks and resorts, and its cable and streaming arm. However, its giant size and global reach have not been enough to protect Disney from bumps in the road. DIS stock is up just under 2% in the year to date and just under 10% over the past 52 weeks. Most encouragingly, shares have gained nearly 23% in just the past month. Disney Prepares for Lay-Off Despite the relatively positive price action, Disney is bracing for turbulence. The entertainment giant is preparing to lay off 'several hundred' employees globally as per a Deadline report published on Monday, June 2. The move will focus on the company's Entertainment segment, including film and television publicity, development, and casting. Additionally, Disney's corporate financial operations are also reportedly bracing for impact. The move follows Disney's recent round of layoffs in March where the company cut nearly 200 employees, or 6% of its total workforce, at the ABC News Group and Disney Entertainment Networks. Disney Reported Solid Earnings Disney reported its fiscal second-quarter results on May 7, posting a profit of $3.28 billion. This figure can be translated to $1.45 per adjusted share, surpassing analysts' $1.18 per-share estimate. The company generated $23.62 billion in revenue in the quarter, again beating Wall Street's $23.14 billion estimate. Disney had previously anticipated a decline in Disney+ subscribers in the quarter but posted an increase of 1.4 million, taking its total to 126 million monthly subscribers. Wall Street had bet on 123.35 million subscribers. Revenue from the Entertainment segment rose 9% to $10.68 billion, while its Experiences segment saw revenue increase 6% to $8.89 billion. For FY25, Disney has raised its guidance with earnings now expected at $5.75 per share while operating cash flow is expected at $17 billion, up from the previous $15 billion guidance. Analyst Takes on Disney Stock Analysts have a positive take on the stock with a 'Strong Buy' consensus rating and a mean price target of $125.92, reflecting upside potential of roughly 10% from the current market price. The stock is covered by 29 analysts and has received 21 'Strong Buy' ratings, two 'Moderate Buy' ratings, and six 'Hold' ratings.

Procter & Gamble to cut 7,000 jobs over two years
Procter & Gamble PG-N said on Thursday it would cut 7,000 jobs, or about 6 per cent of its total workforce, over the next two years as part of a new restructuring plan to counter uneven consumer demand and higher costs due to tariff uncertainty. The world's largest consumer goods company also plans to exit some product categories and brands in certain markets, executives said at a Deutsche Bank Consumer Conference in Paris, adding the program could likely include some divestitures without giving detail. The Pampers maker's two-year restructuring plan comes when consumer spending is expected to remain pressured this year, and global consumer goods makers including P&G and Unilever UL-N brace for a further hit to demand from even higher prices. 'This is not a new approach, rather an intentional acceleration of the current strategy ... to win in the increasingly challenging environment in which we compete,' executives said. Trump's tariffs to raise trillions in revenue, ease U.S. deficits – but at a big cost, CBO says Analysis: Tariffs distract from the real financial war – one that Canada is losing badly President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs on trading partners have roiled global markets and led to fears of a recession in the U.S., the biggest market for P&G. The company imports raw ingredients, packaging materials and some finished products into the U.S. from China. Trump's trade war has cost companies more than $34-billion in lost sales and higher costs, a Reuters analysis showed, a toll that is expected to rise. In April, the Tide detergent maker said it would raise prices on some products and that it was prepared to pull every lever in its arsenal to mitigate the impact of tariffs. Pricing and cost cuts were the main levers, CFO Andre Schulten had said then. On Thursday, Schulten and P&G's operations head Shailesh Jejurikar acknowledged that the geopolitical environment was 'unpredictable' and that consumers were facing 'greater uncertainty.' The company had about 108,000 employees as of June 30, 2024, and said the job cuts would account for roughly 15 per cent of its non-manufacturing workforce. P&G added that the restructuring plan would help simplify the organizational structure by 'making roles broader' and 'teams smaller.' The plans to divest certain brands will also help adjust its supply chain to reduce costs, P&G said.
