Book Lovers' Book Sale kicks off at the Southern Hills Mall
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The annual Book Lovers' Book Sale kicked off Thursday at the Southern Hills Mall in Sioux City.
The sale is taking place in the old Chuck E. Cheese location at the mall. It's being put on by the Friends of the Sioux City Public Library.
Thousands of books come from the library which were taken out of circulation or were too numerous. The rest of the books are donations from the community. Along with books, there are also DVDs, vinyl albums and audio books for sale.
Prices range from $1 to $4 for books and $2 for DVDs and audio recordings.

'We get people from all over that travel to come,' said Debbie LaCroix with the Friends of the Sioux City Public Library. 'We get book collectors, we get moms, we get teachers, we get grandmas, we get those that just love books. People looking to escape, people looking to learn. You're going to find just lots of reasons to be here.'
There is also a silent auction for a 95-book collection Louis L'Amour's works. You can bid on the books or buy the collection outright for $900.
The book sale runs until May 3.

‘Local Perspectives' returns to Sioux City Art Center
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The Sioux City Art Center is now taking submissions for Local Perspectives. All artists 18 years and older who live within 75 miles of Sioux City are welcome to submit their art. Each artist can submit up to three artworks, which can be either 2D or 3D. This year, the collection will be on view October 2, 2025, through February 9, 2026. The deadline for entries is July 28, with final decisions made on August 22. The exhibit will be installed in the JET Gallery located on the third floor of the Art Center and juried by Sioux City Art Center Curator Christopher Atkins. Sioux City Art Center to host opening reception for new art exhibition
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The Sioux City Art Center will host an opening reception for a new art exhibition. The display comes from Iowa-born, Rhode Island-based artist Duane Slick. It is titled 'A Certain Cadence of Night,' and includes new and recent paintings, silkscreen prints, and a video installation produced in collaboration with Martin Smick. Puzzles, games, D&D: Sioux City Public Library hosting youth, adult reading programs Slick has served as the Professor of Painting and Printmaking at the Rhode Island School of Design since 1995. He earned his BFA in Painting from the University of Northern Iowa and his MFA in Painting from the University of California, Davis. The opening reception is set for 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 12. At 6 p.m., the artist will give a talk in the Art Center's Lecture Hall. The event is free to attend and open to the public. The exhibition will remain on display during the Art Center's normal business hours through Sunday, October 12. SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The summer-long Food Truck Fridays started June 6. Here's what you need to know! June 6 marked the 10th year of Sioux City's Food Truck Fridays. The initiative was started by a group of volunteers back in 2015. Now, it has flourished into a summertime tradition.
