AirAsia formalises RM99.5mil charter service contract with Malaysian armed forces
LANGKAWI: AirAsia has formalised a charter service contract with the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) worth RM99.5 million, including special aircraft leasing until Aug 1, 2027, which encompasses daily charters and special charter arrangements covering domestic routes throughout Malaysia.
In a statement released in conjunction with the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) 2025 exhibition today, AirAsia said this service highlights AirAsia's commitment to leveraging its vast domestic network and high-frequency flights to provide reliable and efficient transportation solutions for the MAF.
"AirAsia will facilitate the movement of MAF personnel using commercial flights from Monday to Friday for duty and welfare travel in tandem with AirAsia's existing commercial flight schedule, ensuring seamless integration while maintaining passenger convenience.
"Additionally, there will be a special charter arrangement involving the exclusive rental of the entire aircraft, dedicated solely to MAF personnel, without mixing with commercial passengers,' it said.
AirAsia Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Captain Fareh Mazputra said this partnership reaffirms AirAsia's commitment, as the people's airline, to continue serving the nation and supporting government initiatives.
In addition to air travel, the contract includes comprehensive services such as in-flight meals, luggage handling, and logistical support from the airport to military camps, both ways, to ensure the comfort and well-being of MAF personnel during their movements. - Bernama

Kota Kinabalu: Preparations are underway for Sabah to host the two-day Asean Travel Exchange (ATE) 2025 this month, says State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew. Basically, ATE 2025 is a premier Business 2 Business (B2B) networking event in Sabah, connecting travel trade sellers and regional buyers to foster partnerships and collaborations on June 19 and 20. The Minister said the State Government through the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment (KePKAS) will host this inaugural mega tourism event at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC). Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has been invited to officiate at the opening ceremony on June 19. Liew said KePKAS supports the proposal for four organisations to establish strategic partnership with Sabah Tourism Board (STB) in organising ATE 2025. They are the Asean Tourism Association (Aseanta), Federation of Asean Travel Associations (Fata), Malaysian Association of Tour & Travel Agents (Matta), and AirAsia Group. Asean has 10 member countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, The Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. For ATE 2025, the target audience will be made up of tour operators, travel agents, hoteliers, homestay operators, product owners, and decision-makers from the industry stakeholders. 'As we gear up for the upcoming event, I have been informed by the President of Fata (Datuk Tan Kok Liang) that 354 delegates from 17 countries have already confirmed their participation. They comprise 125 sellers and 229 buyers,' said Liew after a courtesy call by a delegation from the organisers, recently. According to Tan, seller countries include Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei, and Cambodia, with Malaysia leading the list at 88 sellers. 'On the buyers' side, top participating countries include the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, and Thailand. This strong regional presence underscores growing international interest in Malaysia's tourism offerings, particularly in Sabah, which continues to gain traction as a vibrant and strategic tourism hub in the region,' he said in his briefing for the Minister. Court of Appeal allows govt's appeal in armed forces pension adjustment case
PUTRAJAYA: The Court of Appeal today allowed the appeal by the government and three others to overturn a High Court's ruling that had previously favoured 50 retired Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) personnel in a pension adjustment dispute. In a unanimous decision, the three-member panel chaired by Justice Datuk Hashim Hamzah ruled that the military personnel failed to prove that the Malaysian government, the prime minister, the defence minister and the Malaysian Armed Forces Council had breached the provisions under the Federal Constitution. "We find there is merit in the defendants' appeal that warranted appellate intervention," said Hashim, who sat with Justices Datuk Wong Kian Kheong and Datuk Ismail Brahim. The judge said the defendants cannot be said to be breaching Article 147 of the Federal Constitution as they have not placed the plaintiffs in a less favourable position. The court allowed the appeal with no orders as to legal costs. Wong, who wrote a supporting judgment, said two documents, namely, Garis Panduan Pelaksanaan Pindaan Syarat-Syarat Perkhidmatan ATM dated Jan 17, 2013, and Surat Pelaksanaan Kesetaraan Pangkat dan Penambahbaikan Jadual Gaji Minimum Maksimum bagi Perkhidmatan ATM di bawah SSM dated March 14, 2013, were not salary adjustment but were amendments to the terms of service for serving members of the MAF. He said that the objective is to improve the salary scheme for serving members and not to discriminate against retirees who retired before Jan 1, 2013. Wong also said that there was no unequal treatment between pensioners who retired before Jan 1 and those who retired after Jan 1, 2013, as pension adjustments were not made for retirees after Jan 1 that year. On Feb 5 last year, the High Court ruled that all military personnel who retired before Jan 1, 2013, are entitled to have their pensions adjusted to the rates and methods applied to the retirees who retired after Jan 1, 2013. The 50 military personnel of various ranks filed an originating summons in the High Court on Nov 17, 2022, seeking a declaration that the government had violated the provisions in Federal Constitution read together with Section 187 of the MAF Act 1972 for their respective failures to implement new pension adjustments for the MAF retirees who retired before Jan 1, 2013. They claimed that the government's failures to implement the pension adjustments had caused a significant pension gap between the MAF retirees who retired before Jan 1 and those who retired after Jan 1, 2013. In today's proceedings, Federal Counsel M. Kogilambigai appeared for the government while lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla represented the retired personnel. After the court proceeding, Haniff Khatri told reporters that he would study the court's grounds of judgment before deciding whether to bring the matter up to the Federal Court. – Bernama
