Trump announces trade deal with Indonesia, details yet to be disclosed

The announcement comes after the US president last week threatened to impose a 32 per cent tariff on Indonesian goods starting Aug.1.

US President Donald Trump said he reached a deal with Indonesia, without providing any specifics of what is included in the accord.
'Great deal, for everybody, just made with Indonesia. I dealt directly with with their highly respected President. DETAILS TO FOLLOW!!!' the US president posted Tuesday on social media.
The announcement comes after the US president last week threatened to impose a 32 per cent tariff on Indonesian goods starting Aug.1. The country afterward sent its top trade negotiator to meet with Trump Cabinet officials in order to to secure an agreement.
Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto presented several business deals in meetings with US officials, including US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, according to the ministry.
An agreement with Indonesia would be the fourth trade framework Trump has announced with foreign governments, after Vietnam and the UK. The US and China also reached a tariff truce that includes the planned resumption of critical minerals and technology trade between the world's two largest economies.
Pacts announced by Trump have thus far fallen short of full-fledged trade deals, with many details left to be negotiated later. Vietnam's leadership was caught off guard by Trump's declaration that Hanoi agreed to a 20 per cent tariff, and the Southeast Asian country is still seeking to lower the rate, according to people familiar with the matter.

Wipro projects a slightly better second quarter on strong deal pipeline

Wipro reported a 10.9 per cent rise in net profit to Rs 3,330 crore for the first quarter, compared to a year earlier. Sequentially, profit was down 6.7 per cent. Revenue for the first quarter stood at Rs 22,134.6 crore, marginally up 0.77 per cent year-on-year (YoY). On a quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) basis, revenue declined 1.6 per cent. The company's Q1 performance marginally beat Bloomberg estimates. According to Bloomberg, revenue was expected at Rs 22,078.3 crore and net profit at Rs 3,249.4 crore. Revenue from the IT services segment was $2,587.4 million, down 0.3 per cent QoQ and 1.5 per cent YoY. In constant currency terms—excluding the impact of currency fluctuations—IT services revenue declined 2.3 per cent YoY and 2 per cent sequentially. These figures were within the guidance range issued in April, when the company forecast a de-growth of between 1.5 and 3.5 per cent for Q1. Chief Executive Officer Srini Palia attributed the revenue drop to macroeconomic uncertainty. 'We remain cautious in this environment and the uncertainty continues,' he said on Thursday. Despite the softness, Wipro reported strong deal bookings of about $5 billion for the quarter ended 30 June, nearly double compared to the same period last year. Large deal bookings—defined as contracts with total value of $30 million or more—rose 131 per cent to $2.66 billion. The strong pipeline led India's fourth-largest IT services firm to revise its Q2 guidance. Wipro now expects to de-grow by 1 per cent at worst, or grow by 1 per cent at best, in constant currency terms. 'While discretionary budgets are tight, we see strong deal momentum in America, especially in BFSI, where demand is strong and steady. Healthcare is also doing well,' Palia said. "Overall results are mixed bag with lower-than-expected dip in IT Services Sales (down 2% qoq in CC terms vs. EE of 2.6% qoq dip) but with marginally lower than expected EBITM in IT Services at 17.3% vs. our expectations of 17.4%. Reported strong order intake (with two mega deal wins on base of 1 mega deal in 4Q) but despite same IT Services CC growth guidance for 2QFY26E (qoq CC growth guidance of dip of 1% to growth of 1% qoq – in-line with our expectations) is not pleasing (hence, we believe that Wipro's growth in 2H could be better than 1H – await clarity). Announced interim dividend of INR 5/Share," said a note from Equirus Securities. In Q1, BFSI saw a decline of 3.5 per cent, while healthcare posted a 3.5 per cent increase. Other sectors such as consumer, retail and manufacturing are expected to remain subdued due to the impact of tariffs. Palia is relying on large deals to revitalise growth at Wipro, which has trailed its peers for over a decade. The company won two mega BFSI deals in Q1, in addition to 14 large deals across verticals. However, such deals—typically focused on cost optimisation and vendor consolidation—require upfront investments, are slow to ramp up and can squeeze margins in a subdued demand environment. Chief Financial Officer Aparna Iyer acknowledged the margin pressure. 'These deals need upfront investment,' she said. Operating margin stood at 17.3 per cent, up 120 basis points YoY but down 20 basis points sequentially. Among Wipro's four strategic market units, Americas 1 grew 5.8 per cent in Q1, while Europe continued to face headwinds, declining about 12 per cent in constant currency terms.

Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover to cut several managerial roles in UK

The UK-based car manufacturer welcomed the recent trade deal that eases some pressure on its automotive exports to the American market Press Trust of India London Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) on Thursday confirmed plans to cut hundreds of managerial roles as part of a "limited" voluntary redundancy programme, which it says is aimed at better aligning its leadership workforce with the luxury car brand's business strategy. The UK-based car manufacturer, which has been under pressure from US President Donald Trump's tariff wars, welcomed the recent trade deal that eases some pressure on its automotive exports to the American market. However, the latest figures released last week had revealed a drop in sales in the April to June quarter which had witnessed a temporary pause in shipments to the US amid high tariffs of 25 per cent on cars. "JLR regularly offers eligible employees voluntary redundancy (VR) programmes, a JLR spokesperson said. "Through this limited UK VR programme for managers, JLR is aligning its leadership workforce for the business's current and future needs. We are grateful to the government for delivering at speed the new UK-US trade deal, which gives us the confidence to invest GBP 3.5 bn per annum to realise our strategy which is delivering," the spokesperson said. The number of jobs set to be hit is estimated at around 500 amid high American tariffs which were cut to 10 per cent under the US-UK trade agreement, a rate only covering cars made in the UK. The trade deal terms also cap total annual car exports to the US at 100,000 models, with the higher rate applying to any vehicles crossing that mark. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer had chosen the UK headquarters of JLR in the West Midlands region to deliver a key speech back in May to reassure staff amid the US trade wars. As news of the job cuts emerged, Downing Street said JLR was "responding to challenging global conditions". It comes as JLR ceased production of most Jaguar models ahead of a complete relaunch expected next year. In November 2024, the carmaker unveiled a bold rebrand featuring a pink concept car and replacing its big cat logo with a capital J. Meanwhile, the company revealed on Thursday that it is collaborating with smart electric vehicle (EV) charging software platform to support efforts to make charging more sustainable and affordable. JLR said it is running a pilot scheme in the UK to test the integration of software using 10 electric Jaguar I-PACE models. Together, we are designing and deploying a smart charging solution that will meet our luxury clients' expectations. It will support the transition to electrification through the efficient use of energy, with a view to reducing pressure on the grid and lowering costs for users, said Swarna Ramanathan, JLR Chief Strategy Officer. It forms part of a wider Reimagine' strategy which aims to transform the business to become carbon net zero across supply chain, products, and operations by 2039. Electrification is central to this strategy which will see all brands have a pure electric model and Jaguar entirely electric before the end of the decade.

Ukraine and U.S. considering a drone ‘mega deal', Zelensky says after after talks with Trump

President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are considering a deal that involves Washington buying battlefield-tested Ukrainian drones in exchange for Kyiv purchasing weapons from the U.S., Mr. Zelensky said in an interview with the New York Post. Mr. Zelensky said his latest talks with Mr. Trump focused on a deal that would help each country bolster its aerial technology. Ukrainian drones have been able to strike targets as deep as 800 miles (1,300 km) into Russian territory. "The people of America need this technology, and you need to have it in your arsenal," Mr. Zelensky told The Post in the interview conducted on Wednesday (July 16, 2025). The Ukrainian leader said drones were the key tool that has allowed his country to fight off Russia's invasion for more than three years. "We will be ready to share this experience with America and other European partners," he said. Ukraine was also in talks with Denmark, Norway and Germany, he said. On Thursday, Mr. Zelensky announced unspecified future agreements with the United States which he said would strengthen his country, as he appeared in parliament to put forward his new government. Next year's U.S. defence and national security budget request boosts spending on small drones — in part because of lessons learned during Russia's war in Ukraine, where unmanned aircraft have proven to be an integral part of low-cost, yet highly effective fighting.
