If you're dreaming of escaping to a gorgeous island with beaches and sunshine, you're not alone.
Global interest by travelers for island vacations are up on average by 30% this year, according to Expedia's first-ever Island Hot List 2025.
The list, which was released Tuesday, ranks the world's best islands to vacation at based on Expedia data and traveler reviews, plus weighing factors like accessibility, safety, sustainability and weather.
"Powered by real traveler data, the Expedia Island Hot List gives travelers the inspiration they need to plan a smarter island escape,' Melanie Fish, head of Expedia Group brands public relations, said in a news release. 'Island adventurers want standout stays, affordable prices and seamless flight access."
Travelers can find deals for their tropical vacation by visiting during the shoulder season, with the chance to save up to 50% on average for accommodations. A visit to Sardinia in September is 35% cheaper than in August, according to a travel platform.
Here are the top 10 islands, according to Expedia.

Best for year-round sunshine: Aruba
Aruba's reputation as one of the sunniest destinations in the Caribbean makes it the perfect choice for travelers seeking to maximize their beach time during their trip. It doesn't hurt that its Eagle Beach, renowned for its soft sand and turquoise waters, has consistently ranked on Tripadvisor's annual best beaches.

Southwest and Booking Holdings reach distribution deal

Southwest Airlines tickets are now available on Priceline and other travel websites owned by Booking Holdings. The airline's fares also are on Agoda, Cheapflights, Momondo, HotelsCombined and Rocketmiles. Southwest began partnering with Booking Holdings' primary metasearch brand, Kayak, last year. The move is the latest by Southwest to broaden its retail network, leaving behind its long history of eschewing the OTAs. Last February, the carrier began selling on Expedia Group OTAs: Travelocity, Hotwire, Orbitz and CheapTickets. And last year, Southwest began displaying fares on Google Flights. When Southwest reported Q1 earnings in April, it said early returns from the Expedia partnership were good. Two months after the initiative began, Southwest said 4% to 5% of the airline's bookings were on Expedia-owned websites, and that most of the customers were new to Southwest or "customers we haven't seen in a long time."

Looking for Adventure? Here's Why the Dominican Republic Should Be Your Next Trip

With Bad Bunny's 'No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí' residency, it seems like everyone is in Puerto Rico this summer. According to Expedia, more than 600,000 people are expected to attend the residency, which runs until September 14, spiking international flights to Pe Erre by 70%. But if you didn't snag tickets and are still hoping to have a Caribbean summer getaway, Expedia recommends its neighboring island: Dominican Republic. This month, the global online travel agency launched its first-ever Island Hot List, and the Dominican Republic was the only Latin American country to earn a spot. The list is based on a comprehensive analysis of travel data, accommodation rates, accessibility, air connectivity, weather, inclusivity, and traveler reviews. And along with DR, islands like Aruba, Bali, Fiji, Jamaica, Koh Samui, Maldives, Oahu, Paros, and Sardinia all made the cut. Each destination on the Island Hot List is suggested to offer a specific escape. For instance, Paros is recommended for groups that want to party, Maldives is for the romantics, and Bali is for those who crave relaxation. DR won out for adventure — and as a puertorriqueña who has spent some really enjoyable times in my neighboring Caribbean country, I can understand why. If you're considering a summer trip to la República Dominicana — or want to wait to visit during the springtime, when Expedia suggests — here's a list of activities I've tried (and others that remain on my to-do list) to consider adding to your own itinerary. Dive Into Damajagua Waterfalls Just outside Puerto Plata, the 27 Waterfalls of Damajagua are one of the Dominican Republic's most exhilarating natural experiences. After a moderate hike through the jungle, adventurers reach a series of limestone cascades and pools. From there, it's all about sliding, swimming, and leaping (some jumps reach up to 25 feet) into cool water carved into the rock over centuries. Try Canyoning at Salto El Limón In Samaná, canyon through river and rock formations at Salto El Limón. With the relaxing sound of the 170-foot waterfall in the backdrop, guided excursions will help you navigate slippery rocks, descend natural chutes, and cool off in clear pools. Zipline Over the Anamuya Mountains In the hills near Punta Cana, the Anamuya mountain range offers a zipline course that soars above a mountainous jungle. With 12 lines and multiple platforms, the ride cuts through treetops with panoramic views and quick hits of adrenaline. Surf in Cabarete On the north coast, Cabarete has built a global reputation as a wind and watersport hub. Its warm, shallow bay makes it a great destination for kitesurfing and windsurfing, while nearby Playa Encuentro and Macao Beach draw all the surfers. If you've never tried water sports before, don't be discouraged. You can watch from a distance or train with a professional. Hike Pico Duarte For those craving a slower pace and higher elevation, consider Pico Duarte. At more than 10,000 feet, it's the highest peak in the Caribbean. Reaching the summit takes multiple days on foot through pine forests, cloudy valleys, and remote backcountry trails. Along the way, hikers sleep in rustic shelters and wake to misty mountain views that feel worlds away from the island's coastal resorts. Kayak Through Los Haitises & Whale Watch Samaná Bay In the northeast, Los Haitises National Park is a labyrinth of mangroves, limestone cliffs, and caves etched with Taíno petroglyphs. Kayaking here offers a view of the area's gorgeous landscape. Just offshore, Samaná Bay becomes a sanctuary for migrating humpback whales between January and March, giving you a rare chance to witness one of nature's great migrations. Snorkel at Bayahibe & Catalina Island For coral reefs and clear Caribbean waters, head to Bayahibe and the nearby Catalina Island. Snorkelers and divers will find colorful reefs, underwater caves, and even shipwrecks. The water in this area is calmer than in other parts of the country, making it perfect for slow exploration. Ride Horses Along the Beach If the idea of horseback riding at golden hour sounds like a dream, consider beachside tours in Punta Cana and Puerto Plata, where guides take riders through soft sand and coastal trails. It's an easygoing, photo-worthy adventure. Sometimes, the best adventures happen after hours. And when the sun goes down in Santo Domingo, the historic Zona Colonial turns up. Along this historic neighborhood, rooftop bars, clubs, and open-air cafes fill the cobblestone streets with merengue, bachata, and dembow.

Tennessee theme park named best in US – above Disney, Universal: Tripadvisor awards

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WATE) — As Dollywood continues to welcome visitors for its 40th year of operation, the Pigeon Forge-based theme park has once again been recognized as one of the most popular theme parks in the world. Tripadvisor officials named Dollywood the number one theme park in the U.S. as part of its 2025 Travelers' Choice Best of the Best Awards. This marks the third time in the last four years that the park has garnered the top spot. See the full top 10 below: Dollywood (Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Magic Kingdom Park (Bay Lake, Fla.) Knoebels Amusement Resort (Elysburg, Pa.) Disney's Hollywood Studios (Bay Lake, Fla.) Universal Islands of Adventure (Orlando, Fla.) Fun Spot America (Kissimmee, Fla.) LEGOLAND California (Carlsbad, Calif.) Universal Studios Florida (Orlando, Fla.) Silver Dollar City (Branson, Mo.) Whale's Tale Waterpark (Lincoln, N.H.) See the complete list on the Tripadvisor website. Dollywood was also the only U.S.-based theme park to make the top 15 of Tripadvisor's 2025 worldwide rankings, coming in at No. 11 on that list. The 165-acre theme park is co-owned by Dolly Parton's entertainment company, Dolly Parton Productions, and Herschend Family Entertainment. Annual attendance regularly eclipses two million visitors, according to Dollywood is the largest employer in Sevier County and a 2021 study by the Tennessee Department of Transportation found that the park had an annual direct economic impact of $1.8 billion. While Parton famously does not ride roller coasters, the park has consistently added new attractions for visitors to enjoy. 'If I get on that thing, you'd find my wigs on one of those trees,' she joked in 2023 about the new 'Big Bear Mountain' roller coaster that can reach speeds up to 48 mph. Park officials revealed ahead of the 2025 season that plans are in the works for a new ride that is the 'biggest, most ambitious and possibly the most expensive project that the park has undertaken.' While project details have not yet been revealed, they said that visitors will 'take flight' in 2026. The awards are based on traveler reviews and ratings during a 12-month period. Travelers' Choice Best of the Best award winners are among the top 1 percent of listings, according to Tripadvisor. 'We don't provide the best guest experience in the country to try to win these awards,' said Dollywood Parks & Resorts President Eugene Naughton in a statement. 'We do it because it is the right thing to do. Our guests have options on where they can spend their time, and when they choose to visit us, we want to give them a world-class experience.' 'This award is humbling though, because it is derived from real reviews left by our actual guests describing their time here at our parks and resorts,' he added.
