The Jabalpur-Nagpur National Highway running through Kamptee will finally be widened to 18 metres, marking a major step toward easing persistent traffic congestion in this densely populated suburb. The decision came after a high-level infrastructure review meeting chaired by Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari.For decades, the narrow 7-metre-wide stretch was a traffic nightmare due to heavy encroachments.Based on century-old records from the 1912-13 land survey, Gadkari instructed the district administration, Kamptee Municipal Council , and MahaMetro to carry out a coordinated encroachment clearance drive along the 18-metre demarcation line."This is not just about easing congestion — it's about ensuring Kamptee has the kind of modern infrastructure it deserves. The widening will open up future development while restoring the town's planned alignment," officials quoted Gadkari as saying.In a parallel push for economic revitalisation, Gadkari also approved a proposal for a sprawling commercial complex on Nazul land near the proposed Kamptee Metro station . The site — located near the tehsil office, bus stand, and municipal council — is expected to house shops, offices, and transport-related infrastructure."The commercial complex project will resolve multiple issues at once — traffic, business congestion, and lack of civic space," said a senior official from his office.In response to long-standing demands from revenue minister and district guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the Centre also cleared several road upgradation projects . These include National Highway status for the Khairangna-Kondhali-Katol-Sawargaon-Badchicholi corridor, along with central funding for the Mauda-Mathani-Chapegadi-Kuhi state highway. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a new highway link from Karanja in Washim district to the Madhya Pradesh border via Narkhed was also approved.Gadkari also supported the redevelopment of Neelam Lawn and Shukravari Bazaar into a mixed-use civic and commercial space, with 30 per cent earmarked for rehabilitating affected vendors and 70 per cent for a mall, food court, and other facilities. A new Metro station near Dragon Palace in Kamptee is also on the cards, aimed at improving last-mile connectivity in the growing suburb.The review meeting was attended by MLAs Krishna Khopde, Pravin Datke, Charansingh Thakur, NMC commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari, collector Vipin Itankar, NIT chairman Sanjay Meena, and PWD chief engineer Dinesh Nandanwar.

In December 2024, India's National Museum and France Muséums Développement signed an agreement under which the French agency will share modalities and best practices to transform the British-era North Block and South Block into a "global cultural landmark". The ambitious project has been dubbed the 'Yuga Yugeen Bharat National Museum'. The upcoming museum -- billed to be the largest in the world -- will have eight thematic segments telling the story of India spanning over 5,000 years.

Central norms for sanctioning relief insufficient: Sukhu to Shah
1 2 3 4 Shimla: Himachal chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday met Union home minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss the impact of recent flash floods and cloudbursts in the hill state. He apprised Shah that the state experienced damages estimated at around Rs 1,000 crore, with losses continuing as the monsoon season only just commenced. The disaster resulted in the loss of precious lives and severely affected key infrastructure, including roads, bridges, buildings, irrigation schemes, water supply systems, and electricity supply networks, stated the chief minister. Sukhu requested increased support from the central govt for relief and restoration efforts. He highlighted that natural disasters have become a recurring phenomenon since 2023, leading to cumulative losses of approximately Rs 21,000 crore over the past three years. The state is providing relief to affected individuals through the state disaster response fund (SDRF) and the national disaster response fund (NDRF). However, the frequent occurrence of such disasters has strained the state's limited resources, hindering restoration works and infrastructure rebuilding, he added. Sukhu pointed out that existing central govt guidelines for sanctioning relief and restoration activities are insufficient given Himachal Pradesh's challenging topography. He strongly urged amendments to the current norms, specifically advocating for an increase in the relief norm ceiling from 10% to 30%, to bolster the state's relief and restoration initiatives. ‘We will work to unite parties to defeat DMK'
Chennai: Tamil Manila Congress (TMC) president G K Vasan on Tuesday said that his party will work to unite all political parties opposing DMK in Tamil Nadu. At a public meeting in Chennai to mark the 123rd birth anniversary of former chief minister K Kamaraj, Vasan said defeating DMK in the 2026 assembly election is the need of the hour. "TMC will work to unite all parties that are against DMK to defeat the DMK govt in the 2026 election,'' he said. The TMC president said the law and order situation has deteriorated in the state.
