The Arizona Cardinals met with many draft prospects at the NFL combine this past week. While most we do not know, some of the players revealed that fact. One was North Carolina edge defender Kaimon Rucker. When he had his media interview at the combine, he indicated he had an interview with the Cardinals. He noted the energy they came with.
Rucker played five seasons for the Tar Heels and had 14.5 sacks and 23 tackles for loss over his final two seasons. In only eight games last season, he had six sacks and eight tackles for loss, as he was hampered by injuries.
He is 6-foot-1 and 254 pounds with 32 5/8-inch arms. He opted out of all athletic testing except the bench press, totaling 27 reps at 225 pounds.

Trio of Cardinals Top Pitchers Could be Dealt Ahead of Trade Deadline

Trio of Cardinals Top Pitchers Could be Dealt Ahead of Trade Deadline originally appeared on Athlon Sports. In a season where the St. Louis Cardinals came in with little playoff hopes, and an expectation to be near the bottom of the NL Central, the Cards have blown early projections out of the water. St. Louis sits six games above .500 and are coming off a series victory over the defending World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers. Advertisement Even with the recent success, Bleacher Report believes the Cardinals could shake things up assuming the losses start catching up. Cardinals starting pitcher Sonny Gray (54) salutes the fans as he receives a standing ovation after he was removed from the game against the Los Angeles Dodgers© Jeff Curry-Imagn Images A recent article suggests the team could potentially trade starting pitchers Sonny Gray, Miles Mikolas and Erick Fedde — who all have opened the season on a high note. 'Whether they have the staying power to still be in the hunt by the end of July remains to be seen, though, and this trio of starting pitchers would generate plenty of interest if St. Louis does fade a bit,' the article said. Prior to the season, fans were concerned about the Cardinals bullpen, but manager Oliver Marmol and the team has proved that they can compete. The Cardinals defeated the Dodgers 5-0 in Game 1 of their three-game series; Gray pitched 6.1 innings with five strikeouts and allowed zero earned runs in the shutout. The game set the tone for the series, and it rooted from Gray's pitching. Advertisement 'He did exactly what a No. 1 does,' Marmol said after the victory. 'Whenever he needed to make a good pitch, he did.' Gray leads St. Louis with a 7-1 record and 28 earned runs over 75.1 innings. The second-year Cardinal also leads all starting pitchers in the bullpen with an ERA of 3.35. Fedde (3-5) sits right behind Gray with a 3.54 ERA and Mikolas (4-2) clocks in at a 3.96. Despite entering the season with minimal expectations, the Cardinals have emerged as a legitimate contender in the NL Central, fueled by a resilient starting rotation and key performances from pitchers who have proved themselves top pitchers among the MLB. With a solid record and a statement series win over the reigning champions, the Cardinals have silenced early critics. However, as the trade deadline approaches, questions linger about whether this team can sustain its momentum. Nootbaar Not In Starting Lineup Ahead of Tuesday's Blue Jays Game

Nootbaar Not In Starting Lineup Ahead of Tuesday's Blue Jays Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Cardinals' LF Lars Nootbaar will take the night off on Tuesday against the Toronto Blue Jays as Nolan Gorman slots into the starting lineup. Advertisement Nootbaar, 27, has had a solid season and has been a big reason the St. Louis Cardinals (36-30) are six games above .500. The left fielder is typically the leadoff batter for the Cards, and as a result, SS Masyn Winn slots into the leadoff spot. Iván Herrera — who hit a go-ahead three-run shot that sent Busch Stadium into cheers — hits in the No. 2 spot after batting fifth in St. Louis' Game 1 extra-inning loss. Cardinals outfielder Lars Nootbaar (21) celebrates after hitting a home run during the second inning against the Baltimore Orioles© Daniel Kucin Jr.-Imagn Images Herrera's homer gave the Cards a 4-3 lead, but it didn't last long as Toronto's Jonatan Clase hit a solo home run to send the contest into extra innings where the Blue Jays ultimately won. Nootbaar started 16 consecutive games before Tuesday's contest but has had a bad stretch of games going 1-for-19 over the Cards' past five, and 0-for-10 in their last two. Advertisement Gorman, 25, has appeared in 38 games this season and gets the start as Nootbaar hits the bench. Gorman will start at second base while Brendan Donovan moves out to left field. The second baseman will bat seventh with Nolan Arenado at sixth and Pedro Pagés at eighth. Cardinals' Miles Mikolas (4-2, 3.96 ERA) gets the start on the mound against Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt (6-3, 3.56 ERA), who had a strong outing in his most recent start against the Philadelphia Phillies. As Lars Nootbaar gets a well-earned breather after a tough stretch at the plate, the Cardinals turn to Nolan Gorman and a reshuffled lineup in hopes of bouncing back from Monday's extra-inning loss. With Masyn leading off and Iván Herrera riding momentum from a clutch homer, St. Louis looks to even the series behind veteran Miles Mikolas.
