Porter's pride, family in Oz, prop friend, and cut ears
His ears are cut all year round now.
This is the life of an international prop. In fact, he and his wife, Elaine, had to buy black bed linen.
'I can't have white pillowcases at home anymore because it looks like Texas Chainsaw Massacre after I wake up in the morning,' says Porter with a smile.
'I've been banned from the white linens anyway at home.'
A massive part of Porter would love to be at home in Ireland right now. Elaine gave birth to their son in May and it's tough being away at this stage.
'I've learned that babies get very big when you're away from home,' says Porter when he's asked what this Lions tour has taught him.
'My wife is at home looking after the baby. He's nine weeks now.
'I could say it's not easy for me but I don't think my wife would like that too much. I wouldn't get much sympathy!

'My wife is at home looking after our baby at the moment. She's the one in the trenches at home at the moment. I'm in the trenches over here. Well, I can't really say that. We're looked after here quite well.
'But it's a sacrifice on both ends. She's there with sleepless nights at home looking after him and I'm here representing my family, my country, and representing the Lions. It's two different kinds of sacrifices. But I'll definitely owe her for this for a long time anyway.'

Porter is doing them proud in Australia. He came off the bench for his Lions Test debut last weekend in Brisbane, a brilliant moment for him given that he was ruled out of the 2021 Lions tour due to injury.
And on Saturday, Porter will make his first Lions Test start after head coach Andy Farrell named him in the number one shirt for the second Wallabies clash.
He will have family watching in person in Melbourne. His father, Ernie, arrived for the first Test in Brisbane and will be there on Saturday too, enjoying a 'a nice old holiday,' according to his son.
Ernie's two sisters, Becky and Vera, live in Australia, so Porter has had his aunties and cousins supporting him too.
'They're all around the place - Perth, Brisbane, most of them in Sydney.
'It's a good opportunity for him to go and meet up with all the family and everything. I mean, it's great for me as well. There's a lot of them I wouldn't have even met before. A few cousins and stuff, a lot of them I haven't seen in years and years.
'So, it's a great opportunity to reconnect with family as well as being down here.'
Porter packs down with two familiar faces in the Lions' front row on Saturday.
He's part of an all-Leinster, all-Irish front row along with Dan Sheehan and Tadhg Furlong.

'It's incredible being in the squad with them and being able to pack down with them in a Lions Test is another step up again,' says Porter.
'I'm delighted to be able to do it alongside them. I just need to be on top of my game because they've had great tours so far, so I just need to be able to make them look good.'
Porter takes over from Ellis Genge as the Lions' starting loosehead but they know they're a combination.
When Genge was picked to start the first Test, Porter was the first man to congratulate him and that was reciprocated when Porter was named.
'He's an incredible guy, an incredible player, and it's been great to build a friendship as well as learn from him,' says Porter.
'He's one of the best in the business so it's great being able to become closer as mates and learn from each other along the way.
'But yeah, he was the first one to congratulate me yesterday and sure he handed out my cap to me last week instead of my dad. So he's the dad of the squad. He's a great fella and a great player.'

Hugo Keenan - Lions win was 'a moment you play rugby for and you dream of'
Hugo Keenan, the British and Irish Lions' match hero, was resolute in his decision to score the game-winning try against Australia, despite head coach Andy Farrell's pleas for him to pass. With just 51 seconds remaining, Keenan sprinted over the line to give the Lions their first lead in a thrilling 29-26 victory at Melbourne Cricket Ground, securing a series win with one match still to play. The Ireland full-back had Jack Conan as an option on his outside, but he chose to kick into high gear, outpacing Len Ikitau to score the try. Farrell said: 'I was screaming, pass it, pass it, pass it! And knowing Hugo, he was never going to pass it! He was always going to back himself!' Keenan saw his chance and took it as the Lions completed a magnificent comeback in the second Test, having trailed 23-5 after just half an hour. 'Andy mentioned it after. I think he backed me in the end. Jack was outside and he would have finished it himself, but where there's a will there's a way!' Keenan said. 'It's a bit surreal. It was a class moment. It was off the back two minutes of phase attack, the lads digging deep. 'It meant the world to myself and everybody that was out there, the 23, the lads who weren't playing, the backroom staff, the 50,000 Lions supporters out there and everyone at home. It's a really special moment. 'I jumped into the crowd at the end a few times! It was unbelievable walking around the stadium. My parents were there, my brother, my uncle and aunt, my girlfriend. 'I've about 10 friends over from Ireland who have spent a bomb to be here but they are all saying it is absolutely worth it. Really cool moments which make it extra special.' The try was a personal triumph for Keenan, who entered the Lions camp with a calf injury and was then struck by a stomach bug that lasted for 12 days, resulting in him losing a stone in weight. 'It's been a mad whole trip. It's not how I imagined it going, getting sick for two weeks and coming in to camp a bit injured,' he said.. 'It's been a rollercoaster but these things happen for a reason and thankfully I was in full health come the last two Tests. I'm delighted to be involved and delighted that we got the result. 'It's special moments having our family and friends out on the pitch with us at the end. It's those moments you play rugby for and you dream of.'

Pic: Sam Barnes/Sportsfile However after they all left Ireland's middle and back order didn't really get into it as the final 6 players all scored in the single digits before Ireland finished their innings 288-9. Luckily for them however Ireland didn't really need a big performance from their back order as when it their turn to field they got off to a flying start. Prendergast took two quick wickets in the first few overs. Zimbabwe's captain Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano was the visitor's top scorer with 48 as the guests struggled to get a partnership going and once she was gone, Zimbabwe didn't stand much of a chance and were bowled out for 191. Arlene Kelly however was the star bowler of the day going 2-17 in her six overs. Lara McBride did well on debut as she bowled for 2-25, the exact same as Jane Maguire. Lastly Cara Murray, who after struggling at the start of the Zimbabwean innings picked up two wickets towards the end to finish up on 2-53. After that fast start Ireland had done enough to see things out and secure yet another win over Zimbabwe. It's been a great start to life for Lloyd Tennant as Head Coach and speaking to ahead of this match, Ireland captain Gaby Lewis spoke about how it was good to have a new voice in camp. 'It's been really good, it's hard for him coming over not knowing the system or things so that did take a few weeks to get used to but he's been great and he's hit the ground running with the girls and I think it's a nice change after six years. With the T20 series win behind them as well Lewis spoke about the some of the best things this Irish squad are taking from this month. 'It was a great positive in that last T20 that we had a few changes in the team and the result was still the same, so I think it shows the depth and the competition within our squad. And all the girls that aren't in the 11 are pushing to get that opportunity and are willing to grab with both hands. It's only going to get better over the next few years.' It was a momentous day for Prendergast as well as Amy Hunter as the pair both broke the 1000 ODI runs mark for Ireland. Pic: Seb Daly/Sportsfile Ireland return to Dublin next month for a three-game T20 series against Pakistan. Lewis spoke about the excitement in camp heading into the future. 'We're all looking towards the qualifiers and a World Cup and I think that it starts from these games, how we change our approach into the games. I think that then leading into Pakistan, that will be a more challenging series, but yeah it's really exciting.' Before the Pakistan series though Ireland have a second ODI against Zimbabwe on Monday 28 July in Stormont once again. First ball is set to be thrown at around 10:45am and will be streamed live on Ireland Cricket's YouTube channel.
