Exhibition puts focus on five female artists as it tours Scotland in bus
A TOURING exhibition has partnered with a university to put the focus on five Scottish women artists.
Travelling Gallery is working with the University of St Andrews to present the Between Women exhibition, featuring the works of five different artists at five different locations, from February 17-21.
The all-female roster of creators includes Franki Raffles, Sylvia Grace Borda, Sandra George, Carolyn Scott and Niu Weiyu. Their pieces examine the relationships and power structures between women.
After its opening in Edinburgh, the Travelling Gallery, which is a contemporary art gallery in a bus, will arrive in Glasgow, Dundee, Cupar and St Andrews.
The exhibition has been curated by Vivian K Sheng and Catherine Spencer.
Culture and communities convener Val Walker said: 'It's brilliant to see the Travelling Gallery return for 2025.
'Here in Edinburgh, we're clear that our residents should be able to easily access a variety of cultural activities, and this exhibition brings art closer to people's communities.'
Between Women is inspired by and will feature creations from photographer Franki Raffles, exploring relationships between gender, labour and education since the 1950s in Scotland and throughout the world with documentary photography.
Raffles's works will be flanked by images produced by her fellow artists in the exhibition to demonstrate how gender is produced and reproduced through workplaces, housing, healthcare and schools.
Curator Louise Briggs said: 'We're looking forward to discussing the work of each artist with our visitors, who we believe will have their own stories and experiences to share that chime with many of the references found in the work on display.'
The exhibition aims to highlight the possibilities for solidarity between women in sites and spaces local and global, but also acknowledge differences and intersectional identities.
Launching in Edinburgh at the Community Wellbeing Centre on Monday, February 17 from 11am to 5pm, the exhibition will tour throughout the week visiting the following locations:
Tuesday, February 18, 10am to 4pm at Glasgow Women's Library
Wednesday, February 19, 10am to 4pm at Dundee International Women's Centre
Thursday, February 20, 10am to 4pm at Fluthers Car Park, Cupar
Friday, February 21, 10am to 4pm at East Sands Leisure Centre, St Andrews
Between Women is supported by the University of St Andrews Impact and Innovation Fund.

Queens vs. schemes: Inside unscripted's Emmy battle royale
In 2024, the races for Best Competition Program and Best Reality Host were completely upended by a Scottish castle full of reality legends. Now for the juicy rematch: Will Peacock's The Traitors and host Alan Cumming scheme their way to the top again, or will RuPaul's Drag Race and host RuPaul Charles make a fierce Ru-turn to the stage? Drag Race is a five-time champion for series (2018-21, '23), while RuPaul has won the host category a record eight times (2016-23). For its recent 17th cycle, dubbed the "splashiest season in herstory," judges RuPaul, Michelle Visage, and cohorts searched for America's next drag superstar. A special twist allowed two lucky queens to stay in the competition, but only if they successfully threw a ball that dropped Visage into a dunk tank. More from GoldDerby Jay Duplass on exposing his 'dad bod' and playing a 'soft villain' in 'Dying for Sex': 'Easily one of my biggest acting challenges' 5 slots isn't enough: More limited series deserve a chance to compete with 'Adolescence' Laugh tracks: The state of the 2025 Emmy comedy race Onya Nurve won the season and the cash prize of $200,000, while Jewels Sparkles placed second. Both queens had America cheering all season long, especially in the Wicked-themed 'Rusical,' which required the contestants to sing, dance, and act on a moment's notice. "The drag gods watch over us," producer Tom Campbell tells Gold Derby about how it all came together so quickly. "It is a tireless, relentless pace ... we love the adrenaline." The Traitors aired its third season this year and went viral each week with its backstabbing and machinations. "It was absolutely the messiest group of Traitors we've had," executive producer Sam Rees-Jones tells us without hesitation, referring to Rob Mariano, Danielle Reyes, Carolyn Wiger, and Bob the Drag Queen, who turned on each other instead of the other competitors. "It was chaos in the turret, it really was." The competition was won by a record number of Faithfuls — Dylan Efron, Dolores Catania, Ivar Mountbatten, and Gabby Windey — who all trusted each other to the bitter end. Last year's Emmy-winning second cycle also saw a pair of Faithfuls claiming victory, which begs the question: Do Emmy voters prefer when good triumphs over evil? (In Season 1, a Traitor won the game and the show was snubbed in the top series race.) While RuPaul's Drag Race and The Traitors are out front, never count out The Amazing Race, which has a whopping 10 series Emmy wins to date. CBS' globe-trotter recently wrapped up Season 37 with professional gamers Carson McCalley and Jack Dodge claiming the $1 million prize, telling us, "It's like your life flashes before your eyes!" But, of course, what would a reality show be without a villain? Married parents Jonathan and Ana Towns, who placed third, struck a nerve with viewers for arguing repeatedly on camera. "You're going to see us fight,' they declared at the finish line, 'and that's just normal." This year, the big change for American Idol was the addition of Carrie Underwood, who went from Season 4 winner to Season 23 judge, sitting in between Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. "Carrie has followed the show since she was on it 20 years ago," says showrunner Megan Wolflick. "When the seat became available, what better Cinderella story is there than Carrie Underwood?" The season culminated in Jamal Roberts becoming the first Black man to win in 22 years, proclaiming to us: "I'm anointed!" Emmy voters who love an international flare might prefer to cozy up to Top Chef, which filmed Season 22 in Canada. The show experienced a culinary shake-up last year with the addition of new host Kristen Kish, the fan-favorite winner of Season 10. "The show itself is a completely well-oiled machine — they have everything taken care of," she confesses. "For me, if you compare it to the first and second years on the job, it feels more familiar and comfortable ... the joints are looser." Survivor recently concluded its 48th season on CBS and had fans screaming "Emmy!" for the scene in which Joe Hunter helped the autistic Eva Erickson through a high-pressure challenge. That was an example of going "inside the emotion," Jeff Probst says of the moment that caused him to break down in tears for the first time ever. While Probst has taken home four Emmys as host (2008-11), the show itself has yet to win the top Best Competition Program category, which was launched in 2003. Mark Wahlberg 'So Inspired' By Jaw-Dropping Brothers: 'This Could Be a Movie'
Mark Wahlberg 'So Inspired' By Jaw-Dropping Brothers: 'This Could Be a Movie' originally appeared on Parade. Actor recently discovered that three Scottish brothers — Ewan, Jamie, and Lachlan Maclean — are attempting a jaw-dropping feat of physical and mental grit. They are rowing a world-record-breaking 9000 miles across the Pacific Ocean from Lima, Peru, to Sydney, Australi,a with no stops, no support crew, no engine, and no sail, all to raise money and awareness for clean water projects in Madagascar. According to Glasgow PR firm Story Shop, Wahlberg recently made a surprise video call to the brothers to tell them how inspirational they are and what a great film this will eventually make. "I'm so inspired by you guys. You're badasses doing something no one else would even think of," said Wahlberg on the call. "This could be a movie. The best films I've done are based on true stories — ordinary people doing extraordinary things. No way I'd row an ocean, but I'd play one of you guys in a movie." The brothers are 54 days into their trip, and they are battling the elements, a broken watermaker, and a faulty autohelm. They still have over 5000 miles left to go, and have only raised £100,000 of their £1 million target. Here's where you can follow their journey and donate to the important cause. During the video call, Wahlberg remembered spending many days and nights at sea when he filmed The Perfect Storm with George Clooney in 2000."When I was preparing to do The Perfect Storm, I went out on a sword boat — in Ocean City, Maryland, a longliner, and we were actually fishing. We caught some pretty big tuna — 500, 600-pounder. I don't know how you guys are gonna wrestle that thing onto that boat, man. Oh my gosh," said Wahlberg, upon learning that the brothers had a tuna on their fishing line. Wahlberg continued: "What you guys are doing is next level. You're living out a sense of purpose – combining passion with impact. That's rare, and it's humbling to watch. People need to hear about what you're doing. "I couldn't be more inspired by the grit, the determination, the resiliency. What you guys are doing for such an amazing cause, and how hard you're willing to sacrifice yourself and your own well-being for the good of others, is so inspiring. For you guys to do this under your own free will – it's pretty crazy." 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 The actor promised the brothers that they would at least get a hearty meal on him at the finish line, though he hopes to maybe be there to greet them. "We'll have a meal waiting for you. My gosh, by that time, we may even be down there to welcome you," said Wahlberg. The Maclean brothers are on a 28-foot carbon fiber boat called the Rose Emily, named in honor of their late sister. They row in two-hour shifts and have been living on freeze-dried meals and desalinated water. They expect the journey to take more than 100 days. "It's been much harder than we expected," said Ewan, who left his job as a Dyson engineer to help design and build the boat. "But today we had dolphins surfing near the boat, and that lifted our spirits — and then we hear we get to speak to Mark Wahlberg, so spirits are absolutely through the roof. We are such big fans, and speaking to him is like a dream come true for us. It's so cool… but it's bloody surreal." Lachlan added: "We're all operating on such little sleep that we thought it all could have been a hallucination." The brothers previously set three world records in rowing the Atlantic in 2020. They rowed for 35 days on a 3000-mile trip from the Canary Islands off the coast of West Africa to Antigua in the Caribbean. They set records for the first three brothers to row any ocean and the fastest and youngest trio to ever row the Atlantic Ocean. This current trip is triple the distance.
