LSU defensve coordinator Blake Barker updates status of Whit Weeks
Blake Baker went on @OTB_ESPN this morning and said LSU LB Whit Weeks is nearing 100% as summer program approaches for the Tigers.
'He's at full speed doing football drills and more than anything it's just the fatigue as far as the next thing.'#LSU https://t.co/wfulPtVg0d — Glen West (@glenwest21) May 21, 2025
LSU linebacker Whit Weeks is near full strength, according to defensive coordinator Blake Barker. He joined ESPN Baton Rouge's Off The Bench talk show on Wednesday and gave an update on the star defender's status.
"He's at full strength doing football drills and more than anything it's just the fatigue as far as the next thing," Barker said.
Weeks suffered a broken fibula and dislocated ankle in the second quarter of the Kinder's Texas Bowl on New Year's Eve against Baylor. The medical team carted him off the field for evaluation and he didn't return in the victory.
Prior to the injury, Weeks enjoyed a breakout campaign. As a sophomore, he led the Tigers and tied for second in the SEC with 125 tackles, including 10 for loss and 3.5 sacks.
Should he get off to a strong start in 2025 without limited productivity, Weeks' NFL Draft stock will rise. Many analysts considered him a future early-round pick ahead of last year.

Where does Clemson rank in preseason US LBM Coaches Poll for 2025? Full top 25 unveiled
Only three Saturdays remain without Clemson football, and while there's plenty of hype surrounding the Tigers entering the 2025 college football season, we now have a glimpse of how high the expectations are for Dabo Swinney's team. Monday saw release of the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll. Clemson debuted just outside the top five at No. 6, one spot below No. 5 Notre Dame and one spot ahead of the Oregon Ducks at No. 7. The LSU Tigers, Clemson's opponent in the season opener on Aug. 30 at Memorial Stadium, were ranked No. 9. The Texas Longhorns were ranked No. 1 in the preseason Coaches Poll, followed by the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes at No. 2. Within the ACC, only two other teams besides Clemson were ranked: the Miami Hurricanes at No. 10 and the SMU Mustangs at No. 15. The Tigers were ranked No. 14 in last year's preseason poll. With Cade Klubnik having a stellar junior season at quarterback (3,639 passing yards, 36 touchdowns), Clemson went 10-4 overall and won their record 22nd ACC championship in school history to earn a trip to the first 12-team College Football Playoff. The Tigers were ranked No. 11 in the final Coaches Poll last season. Dabo Swinney enters his 17th full season as Clemson's head coach in 2025. The Tigers were the runaway favorite to win the ACC in the preseason conference media poll, released last week following the conclusion of ACC Kickoff. Preseason college football Coaches Poll: Biggest snubs and surprises
We're almost set for the start of another season of college football, and that means it's time for some preseason rankings. On Monday, the 2025-26 preseason USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll was released based on the ballots of participating coaches from around the country, and to the surprise of no one, the Texas Longhorns claimed the No. 1 spot in the rankings ahead of the first campaign of the Arch Manning era. While Texas claiming the top spot wasn't much of a shock, some choices on the coaches' ballot defied expectation. Here are the five biggest surprises and snubs from the initial release of the 2025 Coaches Poll on Monday. 1. Ohio State at No. 2 The Buckeyes are all set for their national title defense in 2025, and while they should once again contend for a College Football Playoff bid, it's a bit surprising to see them this high with how much they lost on both sides of the ball after last season, including starting quarterback Will Howard. Still, Jeremiah Smith and Caleb Downs remain, so this isn't completely out of left field. 2. Clemson snubbed from the top 5 This one is tough for me to fathom. If I were filling out a preseason ballot, I'm not sure the Tigers would be outside of my top three. Cade Klubnik is back as a preseason Heisman favorite, Clemson has its best receiving corps in years and the defense has bona fide stars like Peter Woods and TJ Parker. Instead, the Tigers rank No. 6 here. 3. Florida cracks the top 20 The Gators certainly enter 2025 with momentum after ending the year with four straight wins under star true freshman quarterback DJ Lagway, but Florida is the only team in the preseason top 20 that took five or more losses last season. Still, there's quite a bit of offseason hype, and it wouldn't be a major surprise to see the team inside the top 15 of the AP Top 25. 4. BYU ranked amid QB uncertainty The Cougars won 11 games as one of the most surprising teams in the Big 12 last season, and while they should be competitive again, the offseason saw the late departure of quarterback Jake Retzlaff to Tulane. Without Retzlaff, BYU has an uncertain quarterback situation featuring transfers McCae Hillstead and Treyson Bourget, along with true freshman Bear Bachmeier. 5. Where is Iowa? While the Hawkeyes have become a bit of a running joke for their dismal offenses under Kirk Ferentz, this year's squad is actually intriguing. The addition of accomplished South Dakota State quarterback Mark Gronowski could raise the ceiling quite a bit for Iowa's offense, and this team is coming off a 10-win season. Iowa doesn't play a flashy brand of football, but I would be pretty surprised if the Hawkeyes don't finish the season inside the top 25.
