‘Thakurani Yatra' ends with pomp and gaiety
Budhi Thakurani left the temporary abode of her father's house around midnight towards Mahuri Palace where Mahuri Raja Ashok Kumar Narendra Dev offered prayer to the goddess. Later, the Ghata procession of Budhi Thakurani passed through Bada Bazaar, Santani Sahi, Marthapeta Sahi, Malubari Sahi, Shankarpur Sahi, Jena Sahi, Bachubari Sahi, Kedareswar Sahi, Chandrama Sahi, Khaspa Sahi and Jaura Sahi where Budhi Thakurani visited Her 'Mausi' and was offered 'poda pitha'.
The procession again passed through Bedibari Sahi and Khadura Sahi amid 'hulahuli', animal dance and blowing of trumpets by the devotees. The goddess reached the main temple at about 5 am, according to sources. Devotees on both sides of the road were seen praying to the goddess.
The procession of more than 50,000 women with ghatas on their heads was led by 'Sahasrakhya Ghata' (to counter any tantric effect). Gift or 'Bhara' from the father's house when a daughter returns to the in-laws' house as a tradition followed when Budhi Thakurani returned from her father's house.
Eleven platoons of police force were deployed in the area to maintain law and order during the return journey of Budhi Thakurani to the main temple from Desi Behera Sahi, according to Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M.
During this 26-day yatra, the 'Ghata' procession of Budhi Thakurani passed through 24 streets. A total of 28 'Rathas' and 'Kalakunjas' were erected at different streets in Old Berhampur to welcome Budhi Thakurani.
'Buddhi Thakurani visited our house at Desi Behera Sahi on April 3 and stayed here for 26 days, as my daughter. She returned to her temple according to the customs.
I am happy that everything passed off peacefully,' said Desi Behera P Durga Prasad. He thanked the devotees, Berhampur MLA K Anil Kumar, MP Pradeep Panigrahi, police and district administration, BeMC, volunteers and fellow members of the Dera community for smooth conduct of the Yatra.
He also thanked Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for his visit to the Yatra venue and said 'it inspired all of us.'

Fake sauce unit unearthed in Berhampur
Berhampur: In a crackdown on food adulteration racket, Bada Bazar police unearthed a fake sauce production unit at Pichpichia Nagar in Berhampur. The illegal unit, run under the guise of Anmol Food Products, shocked authorities with the sheer volume of spurious and potentially hazardous food items being churned out. Led by Bada Bazar police station in coordination with Food Safety officials from Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC), the team raided a two-storied building stocked with a staggering quantity of fake tomato sauce, chili sauce, soya sauce, vinegar, pickles and spice products. The premises were littered with drums of artificial colouring agents, acidic liquids, jerry cans filled with suspect tomato pastes and packaging materials bearing the name 'Anmol'. The accused was identified as Prasanta Kumar Panigrahi (48), a resident of Jagannath Vihar 2nd Lane. During the raid, he failed to produce any licence or documentation for his operations. Preliminary investigations revealed that the food products were being manufactured in blatant violation of health and safety standards, involving non-edible and harmful substances disguised as food ingredients. Police have registered a case under sections of FSS Act, 2006, and Section 16 of Prevention of Food Adulteration Act. The entire stock of suspicious goods has been seized and samples have been sent to the Food Testing Laboratory for chemical examination. The accused has been arrested and will be forwarded to court. Further investigation into the supply chain and distribution network is underway. This major bust has raised serious public health concerns, and authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant against such illicit food manufacturing units operating under the guise of familiar brand names.

Adulterated sauce making unit busted, owner held
Berhampur: Authorities uncovered an adulterated sauce manufacturing unit in Pichipicha Nagar here on Monday and arrested the owner for illegal production and distribution of these products, police said. During the raid, police and food safety officers confiscated eight grinding and packing machines, 300 litres of tomato sauce, 700 empty sauce bottles, phenyl plastic bottles, and 300 empty plastic pickle bottles. The raid was launched following a tip-off regarding the illegal production of duplicate sauce in the area. Police, in collaboration with food safety officers from Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC), discovered large quantities of sauce bottles, caps, cartons of packed tomato, chilli and soya sauce bottles, vinegar, pickles and other spices. Authorities also found several containers filled with tomato-like paste, liquid drums, colour drums and acids at the site. The owner failed to provide a licence or any supporting document for the food items, police said. SP (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M said a preliminary investigation revealed the food items were not prepared according to standards, with synthetic colours and non-edible, hazardous liquids allegedly being used. Samples of each item have been collected and will be sent to the food testing laboratory in Bhubaneswar for examination. Investigation revealed the accused had been operating the unit for the past two years, supplying products to markets in Berhampur and several other towns in Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal districts, Baba Shankar Saraf, inspector in-charge of Bada Bazar police station, said. The accused has been charged under various sections of the BNS, Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and Prevention of Food Adulteration Act.

BeMC cracks down on eateries, single-use plastic in 12-hr drive
Berhampur: Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) officials carried out a 12-hour raid across various parts of silk city on Tuesday, seizing large quantities of banned items and unhygienic food and collecting fines of around Rs 2.03 lakh. The multi-disciplinary squad seized 19 domestic LPG cylinders, destroyed 55kg of stale food from different establishments, including hostels, restaurants eateries and confiscated a huge amount of banned single-use plastic during the drive. The raids, conducted from 9 am to 9 pm, were carried out under the direction of BeMC commissioner Prathamesh Arvind Rajeshirk and led by deputy commissioner Kalyani Sanghamitra. The inspection covered areas such as Railway Station road, SNT Road, Sana Bazaar and Gate Bazaar. The aim was to curb the spread of diarrhoea and other waterborne diseases, especially during Rath Yatra, officials said. Food safety officials collected fines over Rs 1.11 lakh, while the sanitary wing imposed penalties of Rs 1.91 lakh.
