The accused was identifed as Prasant Kumar Panigrahy, 48, from Jagannath Bihar.
During the raid, police and food safety officers confiscated eight grinding and packing machines, 300 litres of tomato sauce, 700 empty sauce bottles, phenyl plastic bottles, and 300 empty plastic pickle bottles.
The raid was launched following a tip-off regarding the illegal production of duplicate sauce in the area. Police, in collaboration with food safety officers from Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC), discovered large quantities of sauce bottles, caps, cartons of packed tomato, chilli and soya sauce bottles, vinegar, pickles and other spices.
Authorities also found several containers filled with tomato-like paste, liquid drums, colour drums and acids at the site.
The owner failed to provide a licence or any supporting document for the food items, police said.
SP (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M said a preliminary investigation revealed the food items were not prepared according to standards, with synthetic colours and non-edible, hazardous liquids allegedly being used.
Samples of each item have been collected and will be sent to the food testing laboratory in Bhubaneswar for examination.
Investigation revealed the accused had been operating the unit for the past two years, supplying products to markets in Berhampur and several other towns in Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal districts, Baba Shankar Saraf, inspector in-charge of Bada Bazar police station, said.
The accused has been charged under various sections of the BNS, Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and Prevention of Food Adulteration Act.

The data in row was misread by our data team. The tweet has since been removed. I had no intention of dispersing any form of misinformation.' In his now-deleted post, Kumar had claimed that in the Ramtek assembly constituency, the number of voters decreased from 466,203 in the Lok Sabha polls to 286,931 during the assembly elections — a dip of 38.45%. Similarly, he claimed that in Devlali, the number of voters dipped 36.82% from 456,072 in the Lok Sabha polls to 288,141 in the assembly elections.

Labourer who strangled woman (65) for money arrested after gunfight in Noida
Noida: A murder accused was arrested after an encounter with Badalpur police near an abandoned railway crossing at Roza Yakubpur on Tuesday night. Pappu Mistri (27), a resident of Chhapraula, was the main suspect in the murder of an elderly woman who lived near Vidya World School. Pappu allegedly committed the crime on Aug 3 at the victim's house, where he strangled her and fled with her jewellery and mobile phone. According to police, the arrest was made by a police team that was conducting checks near the closed railway gate. A man was spotted approaching, and when signalled to stop, he tried to flee. Suspecting foul play, cops chased him. Former cop, wife booked for abetment to suicide in North Paravur
Kochi: Ernakulam Rural police on Wednesday registered a case of abetment to suicide against a retired police officer and his wife following the death of a homemaker in Kottuvally in North Paravur. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The victim, Asha Benny (46), allegedly ended her life on Tuesday by jumping into a river after what her family described as relentless harassment by the accused over money she had borrowed from them. Police initially booked the accused couple — Pradeep Kumar and his wife, Bindu Pradeep, Asha's neighbours — under BNS Section 194 (unnatural death) but later added BNS Section 108 (abetment to suicide). Police said Asha had borrowed Rs 10 lakh from Bindu two years ago. Family members alleged that despite repaying the loan with interest, Asha was under severe mental stress due to constant demands for additional payments. Just days before her death, she had filed a complaint with the superintendent of police, who forwarded it to the North Paravur police. Both parties were summoned to the station on Tuesday, but the matter was left to be resolved mutually. After returning home, Bindu allegedly went to Asha's house, verbally abusing and threatening her. Later that day, Asha is believed to have jumped into the river near her residence. Fire officers pulled her out, but doctors declared her dead on arrival at the hospital. A suicide note recovered from Asha's house alleged that Pradeep and Bindu had demanded an additional Rs 22 lakh, even after she had settled the original loan with interest. Pradeep Kumar and Bindu have been absconding since Tuesday evening. Their daughter has been called in for questioning. Police added that Asha's earlier complaint to the SP, which was transferred to Paravur police, will also be reviewed as part of the probe. Pradeep had earlier been named in a bribery case linked to the 2018 Varapuzha Sreejith custodial death case. He was accused of accepting Rs 15,000 from Sreejith's relatives, promising to have his name removed from the list of accused. Following the inquiry, Pradeep was suspended from service.
