Netflix's Jewel Thief featuring Saif Ali Khan, Kunal Kapoor, Jaideep Ahlawat and Nikita Dutta in prominent roles, recently released on the OTT giant. While the film garnered praise for its lavish scale and performances, it was criticised for its storyline.
Kunal Kapoor, who made a comeback with the movie, defended Jewel Thief and said that it did end up doing what it was supposed to.
'It was multiple things starting with a chance to do something I haven't done before. That's the most important thing for an actor. My belief is that sometimes a smaller part can make more of an impact if it surprises people, as opposed to a leading part where you do something they have already seen you do. This kind of character has always been my favourite. It's just unfortunate I have never had the chance to be part of one of these films,' Kunal told Hindustan Times when asked what drew him to Jewel Thief.
STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD
'Having said that, the reactions that I have gotten from people have shown that it did what it was supposed to do, which was entertain. It was supposed to be fun and have enough surprises to keep you engaged. That, it has done. It was never supposed to be this profound thing that changes your opinion about the world. It was supposed to be a fun ride and it has delivered on that,' he added.
Produced by Siddharth Anand, who helmed films like Pathaan, War and Fighter, Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins is directed by Robbie Grewal and Kookie Gulati.

Prince Harry ‘Feels Alone' In California With Meghan Markle, Misses UK Friends: Report
Last Updated: The Duke of Sussex is feeling 'desperately lonely,' largely cut off from longtime friends and family, and struggling to find meaningful companionship in California. Prince Harry may be living in a $14 million Italian-style mansion in California with his wife Meghan Markle and their two children but behind the gates life is far from idyllic for the former royal family member, it was reported. NewsNation reported, citing unnamed sources, the Duke of Sussex is feeling 'desperately lonely," largely cut off from longtime friends and family, and struggling to find meaningful companionship in California. 'He doesn't really have any real friends in the area except for polo star Nacho Figueras, and Nacho travels constantly for matches," a friend told the outlet, adding, 'He spends a lot of his time chilling with his bodyguards." Prince Harry is said to remain close with a few of his inner circle from the UK, including Guy Pelly and Mark Dyer but the distance and time zone differences make regular contact difficult. The source said as per the outlet, 'There's no one else for him to hang out with besides Nacho, Meghan, and the children." The UK royal's social circle has narrowed since stepping back from official duties and relocating to the US in 2020, the report claimed, citing a friend who said, 'It's hard to forge deep friendships when you're older especially when you're wary of people leaking things to the press." Another source compared Prince Harry's exile-like existence to that of his great-great-uncle Edward VIII, who abdicated the throne for love and lived out his days abroad with Wallis Simpson. 'It's like history is repeating itself," the friend said. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have remained in the public eye through Netflix deals, books and public appearances. Although behind the scenes, Prince Harry is also said to have been frustrated over delays in securing British passports for his children, Archie and Lilibet. 'Meghan wishes her husband could feel less burdened by the past and more present in the life they've built together," a source told People Magazine. First Published: June 06, 2025, 21:08 IST

David Beckham likely to receive knighthood soon. What will be his title?
Former England football star David Beckham is reportedly set to receive a knighthood in the upcoming King's Birthday Honours list, marking a major milestone for the global sports icon. The former England captain, who already holds an OBE awarded in 2003, will be named a knight in the official list expected next week, according to The Sun. David Beckham, who recently turned 50, has long been tipped for the honour over his football career and extensive charity work, particularly as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. Should the honour be confirmed, he would formally become 'Sir David', while his wife, fashion designer and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, would assume the courtesy title of 'Lady Beckham.' His path to knighthood was reportedly delayed after HMRC flagged concerns over an alleged tax avoidance scheme, which halted a planned honour in 2014. Speculation around the accolade reignited after Beckham's 2013 retirement and reached new highs following the success of the Emmy-winning Beckham Netflix documentary. During a conversation at the Chelsea Flower Show last month, King Charles appeared to make a cryptic reference to the upcoming honour, asking Beckham if he had 'received his 50th birthday present,' to which the former footballer replied: 'It was incredible, thank you, it was very kind.' The Queen added, 'I'm glad you got the roses.' Beckham, who earned 115 caps and captained England 59 times, is the only Englishman to score in three separate World Cups. His club career highlights include Manchester United's legendary treble-winning season in 1999. After stints at Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, and AC Milan, he co-founded US team Inter Miami, helping bring international football stars stateside.
