Samay Raina faces new legal trouble as he makes insensitive remarks on disabilities; read deets
Stand-up comedian and YouTuber
Samay Raina
is under legal scrutiny following allegations of making insensitive comments about individuals with disabilities, including a visually impaired person and an infant suffering from
Spinal Muscular Atrophy
(SMA). The
Supreme Court of India
has expressed deep concern over these remarks, describing them as 'really disturbing' and has taken a stern view of the matter .
The controversy stems from Raina's YouTube show,
India's Got Latent
, where he allegedly mocked the high cost of SMA treatment and made derogatory remarks towards a blind contestant. In one instance, he joked about a two-month-old baby requiring a ₹16 crore injection for SMA treatment, suggesting that a mother might consider the financial windfall over the child's needs . In another, he asked a visually impaired participant, 'Which of your eyes should I look into?'
The Cure SMA Foundation of India filed an intervention application, highlighting that such remarks perpetuate insensitivity towards serious health conditions and hinder efforts to raise funds for expensive treatments like Zolgensma, a gene therapy costing ₹16 crore .
The Supreme Court has asked the NGO to file a detailed plea and has impleaded Raina in the ongoing case, emphasizing the need for responsible content creation.
This incident adds to Raina's previous controversies, including backlash over a segment involving Ranveer Allahbadia, which led to the deletion of India's Got Latent episodes. The court's response underscores the growing concerns about the impact of digital content on public perception and the importance of sensitivity towards marginalized communities.

In an Instagram video, Siddharth explained that he was temporarily banned from posting because of the copyright issue. On Monday, he shared his side of the story, revealing that after investigating, he found out the IPL authorities had requested Instagram to take down his video. "For some reason, Instagram decided to take the video down and proceeded to ban me from interacting on the app," he said. He continued, "The ban was lifted yesterday. It turns out that after I got to the bottom of this, the video was brought down because IPL complained and said that I have violated their copyright police, which is absolutely nuts to me. The video was less than a minute long, and it was about me and my emotions. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed!
