Olympic champion Noah Lyles pulls out of race with NFL star Tyreek Hill for personal reasons
Olympic champion Noah Lyles said he was prepared to race Miami Dolphins star receiver Tyreek Hill in New York before plans fell through due to 'personal reasons'.
Speaking at a Sport Beach event in France, Lyles said the proposed event had come to fruition after several months of back-and-forth trash talk.
'We were very deep into creating the event. In fact, it was supposed to happen this weekend,' Lyles said. 'Unfortunately there were some things, complications, personal reasons that it just didn't come to pass, but we were full on.
'We were gonna have a big event, we were going to shut down New York Times Square and everything, we were gonna have all the billboards for the event, it was going to be a lot of fun.'
Lyles did not elaborate on the 'complications' or 'personal reasons' that he referenced.
Hill had challenged Lyles to a 50-yard race after the sprinter won 100m gold at last summer's Olympics. Lyles is also a three-time world champion after winning gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m in 2023.
Hill, an eight-time Pro Bowler and one of the fastest players in the NFL, entered a track meet on Friday in California and won the 100m in a personal best of 10.15sec. After the event, Hill held up a sign that read, 'Noah could never.'

Lyles may disagree: he has easily bettered that time. His winning time in Paris was a personal best 9.79. However, he has been happy to exchange trash-talk with Hill in recent months. After winning the US indoor 60m title in February, he held up a sign saying: 'Tyreek Could Never.'

Insiders reveal first impressions of Aaron Rodgers after first practices with Pittsburgh Steelers
Aaron Rodgers practiced for the first time as a Steeler last week, and some insiders believe that Pittsburgh should be bullish about their newest quarterback. Rodgers, 41, signed with the black and yellow on a one-year, $13.65million deal to finally end the speculation surrounding his next move. And while the quarterback was cut by the Jets this winter, several coaches who 'watched Rodgers closely' last year - including members of the Jets, told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler that they believe Pittsburgh got a 'steal.' 'He's still throwing the s*** out of the ball, honestly,' an NFL offensive coach was quoted as saying in the piece. 'He's the best quarterback they've had since [Ben Roethlisberger]. We will see how the body holds up, but I think he's going to help them immensely.' An AFC executive also added that the 'mobility is an issue,' but still believes he can Rodgers can improve the team's offense. '... Where he helps them is with the plus arm strength and the field vision from the pocket. They haven't had that. I'm not sure that will be enough, but the offense will be at least respectable.' Since longtime quarterback Roethlisberger's last season in 2021, Pittsburgh have struggled for production at the position, with Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph and Mitchell Trubisky getting snaps under center in the two seasons following his retirement. Last season was certainly a step forward with Justin Fields and Russell Wilson - and the team made the playoffs with a 10-7 record - but the offense faded in the latter stages of the season. Wilson is now a Giant, while Fields signed with the Jets. In fact, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Steelers would've preferred to retain Fields or lure Matthew Stafford to Pittsburgh over signing 'third choice' Rodgers. Nonetheless, Rodgers had hugely respectable numbers last season for New York, as he tossed 28 touchdowns and nearly reached 4,000 passing yards. Speaking to the Pittsburgh media for the first time last week, Rodgers - who announced he had recently gotten married - said his decision to join the Steelers came 'from the soul.' 'I don't need it for my ego. I don't need it to keep playing. A lot of decisions that I've made over my career and life from strictly the ego, even if they turn out well, are always unfulfilling. But the decisions made from the soul are usually pretty fulfilling.' Rodgers also spoke on the personal issues which had seemingly delayed his decision, saying that 'things improved a little bit where I felt like I could fully be all in here with the guys. 'Had a great conversation with Mike [Tomlin] throughout the entire process and [Steelers GM] Omar [Khan] but it's good to get that done and get behind us.' Rodgers will travel back to the Jets in Week 1 for the Steelers' opening matchup of the season.

River Plate see off Urawa to make winning start at Club World Cup
SEATTLE, WA, June 17 (Reuters) - River Plate opened their Club World Cup campaign with a 3-1 win over Urawa Red Diamonds on Tuesday, with goals from Facundo Colidio, Sebastian Driussi and Maxi Meza enough to see off a spirited challenge from the Japanese side. The Argentine team got off to a dominant start and opened the scoring after 12 minutes when Colidio headed home a fine cross from Marcos Acuna on the left. Driussi doubled the lead three minutes into the second half, capitalising on a poor header back from Marius Hoibraten to head the ball over the advancing goalkeeper Shusaku Nishikawa and into an empty net. Striker Driussi was forced off soon after, having picked up an injury in the build up, and Urawa pulled one back in the 58th minute through Yusuke Matsuo, who calmly converted a penalty following a foul by Acuna. While Urawa pushed hard for an equaliser, substitute Meza delivered the decisive blow in the 73rd minute, with yet another header from Acuna's corner, his second assist of the match. River will face Mexico's Monterrey on Saturday, while Urawa take on Champions League runners-up Inter Milan in Group E.
