Australian Supercars Just Had One of It's Wildest Finishes, Cam Waters Wins by.03 Seconds

Yahoo22-02-2025
In the second race of Supercars opening round in Sydney, Cam Waters and Broc Feeney combined for one of the best finishes in modern Supercars, with Waters passing Feeney in the final corner and beating him to the line by just.03 seconds.
Waters won Friday night's race and topped Saturday's qualifying to put him in the catbird's seat for a second time. He lost positions early in the 200km race and had to fight back to battle among the podium finers. With four laps to go, Waters made a pass on Feeney and spun the Red Bull driver; instead of facing a possible penalty, Waters redressed and gave the position back under the cover of night.

In correcting, Feeney made it back by his teammate Will Brown as well, and Waters settled into the middle of the two Red Bulls, but not before Feeney fed him a right rear in retaliation for turning him in turn four.
"It's pretty hard in the dark because you can't really see how far away cars are compared to the daytime," Waters said in the post-race press conference. "I wasn't really sure how far behind Will was; I knew I had to redress Broc just to make sure I didn't get a penalty. I wasn't sure if I was going to get a penalty or not, but I didn't want that hanging over my head."
The three drivers stayed single final until the final turn and straightaway, where Waters pulled out to make the pass for the lead. The trio combined for Australia Supercars' closest finish in the series history.

Waters shared that he's proud to be part of what fans and commentators called one of the sport's best races.
People were telling me how cool a race that was and one of the best races I've seen, it's pretty cool to be part of that," Waters said. "How pumped the team was awesome to see. What a race, it was all going on, I was pushing the whole time."

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Former Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo suffered an injury on Thursday while riding a dirtbike, according to new reports. Thomas Maher of Planet F1 says that the fan-favorite driver was riding his bike when he got injured. He was riding through the Daintree in northern Queensland, and then he was injured and taken to Mossman Hospital in Queensland for treatment. Ricciardo is reportedly feeling good despite the injury, indicating it may not be serious, though there are few details and specifics about what caused the injury. Photo by Karwai Tang//Getty Images The Aussie is enjoying life after Formula 1, and he appears happy with not racing at the highest level anymore. Ricciard made his return to the grid over a year ago with Racing Bulls, landing a chance to prove himself for the Red Bull seat once again, but he struggled to make a profound impression. Red Bull ended up choosing Liam Lawson to replace Riccardo at Racing Bulls, effectively finishing his time in the sport. Since his departure, he has not taken a role with another racing series like NASCAR or IndyCar. In a rare public appearance, Ricciardo spoke at Ray White's Connect conference, where he addressed how life after F1 has been going. "Well, I haven't been shaving my face," joked the Honey Badger. "The beard is my comfort right now. "This year has been a bit of self-exploration. I lived this crazy high-speed life for so long, and this year I've sat into a little bit of stillness. "I've had a lot of time, I've done some hiking. I was in Alaska a few weeks ago and didn't get mauled by a grizzly, which was a bonus. "I've been trying to figure out who I am other than this racecar driver. I've come to appreciate the little things more and the meaning of the importance of family and friends. "I've always been driven, and that sometimes leads you to being selfish, so I'm trying to learn to be a bit more selfless and become a better listener." Riccardo was one of the most captivating personalities in the sport, making a name for himself on Netflix's Drive to Survive. The show highlighted his likable personality, which was known around the paddock, though mainstream audiences got to see it firsthand. He won eight races during his career, most of which came with Red Bull, though career mistakes hindered the peak of his powers. The Honeybager left Red Bull right before it ascended and joined Renault, a move which did not pay off. He then opted for McLaren, though he once again didn't find his desired success. If Ricciardo stayed at Red Bull, he would have had a chance to fight for the title, but he never got the opportunity to do so in his career.

Gordon Murray Automotive to Launch ‘Special Vehicles' Division Tomorrow

Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA) will debut its new 'Special Vehicles' division at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, on August 15, unveiling two bespoke supercars as part of its Monterey Car Week showcase. The new branch, officially titled Gordon Murray Special Vehicles, is described by the company as 'where engineering art meets beauty,' signaling a focus on highly exclusive, design-driven projects. While GMA has not confirmed specifics, industry speculation suggests that one of the debut cars will be a reimagined version of the company's acclaimed T.50 supercar. Daily Driven Collectibles: The Best Upgrades That Don't Hurt Resale Introduced in 2020, the T.50 quickly gained notoriety for its lightweight engineering, naturally aspirated V12 engine, and distinctive rear-mounted 40 mm fan designed to enhance aerodynamic performance. The rumored Special Vehicles variant is said to forgo that signature fan, adopting a revised aero package that would alter the car's appearance and handling characteristics. 10 Must-Have Tools and Gear for the Modern Car Collector (Amazon Edition) Such a change could mark a departure from the radical fan-assisted downforce system Gordon Murray popularized, offering instead a more conventional aerodynamic profile while retaining the T.50's purist driving ethos. This approach may appeal to collectors and drivers seeking the performance and engineering of the T.50 in a slightly more understated configuration. GMA has positioned the Special Vehicles division as a platform for limited-run, highly customized models — cars likely aimed at clients who value rarity and artistic design as much as speed. The second car set for reveal remains under wraps, though both are expected to embody the lightweight, driver-focused philosophy that has defined Murray's career. Monterey Car Week has become a global stage for manufacturers to debut their most exclusive creations, and GMA's move signals its intention to compete directly in that ultra-premium space.
