NBA Trade Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers Could Sign $121 Million Golden State Warriors Superstar; LeBron James Key Trade Asset?
LeBron James and Stephen Curry (Image via Getty) A new blockbuster mock trade scenario has surfaced, suggesting a massive shake-up for the Los Angeles Lakers that would see LeBron James and his son Bronny shipped to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Jimmy Butler and a future first-round pick. The Proposed Trade between the Lakers and the Warriors Sports Illustrated's Dan Angell outlined the trade concept, explaining the Lakers' potential reasoning behind such a bold move. 'The Lakers really don't love the idea of taking on Jimmy Butler's contract, especially with LeBron's contract due to expire at the end of the 2025-26 season,' Angell wrote. 'They want to be free of LeBron's contract, but there's no way to do that before the end of 2026 without taking equal value back.' Under the proposal, the Lakers would: • Send LeBron James and Bronny James to the Golden State Warriors • Receive Jimmy Butler and a 2028 first-round pick in return Lakers-Warriors Trade Structure LeBron James is currently with the Los Angeles Lakers (Image via Getty Images) Team Receives Lakers Jimmy Butler, 2028 1st-round pick Warriors LeBron James, Bronny James Why the Los Angeles Lakers Would Consider It The idea centers on the Los Angeles Lakers beginning a post-LeBron era, potentially building around Luka Doncic in the future. The additional 2028 first-round pick would help stockpile assets for long-term roster construction. According to Angell, Butler would keep the Lakers competitive in the short term while providing strong defensive and offensive contributions despite being 36 years old. Key Reasons for Lakers' Interest: • Avoid long-term financial commitment to LeBron • Add future draft capital • Maintain playoff competitiveness with Butler • Transition toward a Luka Doncic-led core The Golden State Warriors' Side of the Deal The Golden State Warriors reportedly acquired Butler from the Miami Heat in early February, seeking a spark for a struggling team. His arrival delivered results, as Golden State finished with 48 regular-season wins and claimed the No. 7 seed after winning their Play-In game. Jimmy Butler's 2024-25 Postseason Impact Series/Stage Stats (per game) Western Conference Semifinals vs. Timberwolves 20.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.6 assists Although Butler had quieter moments in the second round against Minnesota, his production came with Stephen Curry sidelined due to a Grade 1 calf strain. While LeBron James remains the superior talent and is five years younger than Butler, the hypothetical trade suggests the Los Angeles Lakers could still contend with Butler as their third star. Travis Kelce's final NFL chapter looms as retirement rumors intensify and Chiefs face salary cap squeeze
Travis Kelce's time with the Kansas City Chiefs might end soon (Image via AP0 Travis Kelce 's storied career with the Kansas City Chiefs could be nearing its final chapter. After a challenging 2024 season and mounting financial pressures for the franchise, the 35-year-old tight end may be heading toward retirement at the end of 2025—a move that would mark the end of an era for one of the NFL 's most dynamic offensive players. Chiefs' financial situation could make Travis Kelce's return unlikely Travis Kelce, who has been a cornerstone of the Chiefs' success and is a likely future Hall of Famer, posted career-low numbers last season with 97 receptions, 823 yards, and just three touchdowns—his first season under 1,000 yards since 2014. Given his age and the physical demands of his position, his reduced explosiveness has sparked questions about whether his focus remains fully on football, especially amid his high-profile relationship with Taylor Swift. The Chiefs' front office is juggling a tight salary cap situation heading into next season. According to projections, they are expected to be more than $51 million over the limit—and that's without factoring in a likely contract extension for elite cornerback Trent McDuffie. Retaining both McDuffie and Kelce under these conditions appears difficult. As one insider noted, Kelce's only realistic path to staying in Kansas City would be to renegotiate his contract and take a pay cut. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like It's Great for My Business [Explore] SearchPad Learn More Undo However, given his stature and past contributions, that option seems improbable. This financial reality, combined with the wear and tear of over a decade in the NFL, makes 2025 look like Kelce's swan song. The emotional weight of a possible farewell season Kelce had considered retirement after the Chiefs' Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this year, but quarterback Patrick Mahomes reportedly convinced him to return for one more run. This season, then, could serve as a farewell tour for the veteran tight end, with fans—and perhaps Taylor Swift—turning out in force to see him in action one last time. If 2025 is indeed Kelce's final year, it will close a chapter that has defined an era of Kansas City football. His combination of elite playmaking, leadership, and charisma has made him a fan favorite and a central figure in the Chiefs' dynasty years. Flyers escape $8M cap hit after winning Ryan Johansen arbitration case in high-profile contract termination dispute
The long-running contract dispute between Ryan Johansen and the Philadelphia Flyers has officially been settled — and it's the Flyers who came out on top. According to insider Darren Dreger, an arbitrator ruled in favor of Philadelphia in a grievance filed by the NHLPA after the team terminated Johansen's contract last summer, citing a 'material breach. ' The events that led to the Flyers cutting ties with Ryan Johansen Johansen's exit from the Flyers was unusual from the start. Philadelphia acquired the veteran center from the Colorado Avalanche at the 2024 trade deadline in exchange for defenseman Sean Walker. Johansen had been active with Colorado right up until the deal, even participating in the Avalanche's morning skate the same day the trade was finalized. Once in Philadelphia, things quickly soured. The Flyers reportedly had no plans to use Johansen in their NHL lineup and attempted to assign him to their AHL affiliate. However, Johansen claimed he was injured and did not report to the minors. The Flyers apparently believed the injury claim was a way to avoid playing in the AHL, and he never suited up for the organization at any level for the rest of the season. At season's end, Philadelphia terminated the final year of Johansen's contract, which was set to pay him $8 million in 2024–25. That salary had been split between the Flyers and the Nashville Predators, who had retained part of his cap hit in an earlier trade to Colorado. Why the ruling matters for the Flyers and the NHL The arbitrator's decision means the Flyers — and Nashville — are both free from the cap obligations tied to Johansen's deal. It also sets a precedent for how NHL teams might handle situations where they believe a player has violated contract terms. For Johansen, the ruling is a major setback in a career that once saw him as one of the league's top centers. The 13-year veteran and 2014–15 NHL All-Star has amassed 202 goals and 578 points in 905 games, but recent seasons have been marked by declining production and off-ice complications. Also Read: NHL Trade Rumors: Edmonton Oilers are considering bold goalie trade involving Detroit's prized prospect Sebastian Cossa While the Flyers can now move forward without financial repercussions, Johansen faces an uncertain future in the league — and his next step could determine whether his NHL career continues at all.
