
Railways to revamp reservation system with early charting, more bookings
The Railways are also working on upgrading the PRS to a modern, agile, and scalable system. The project, being carried out by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), is set to be completed by December 2025.The upgraded system will be capable of handling 5 times the current load, allowing over 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute, up from the current 32,000. The ticket enquiry capacity will also rise sharply from 4 lakh to 40 lakh queries per minute.The new PRS is expected to feature a user-friendly, multilingual interface with options to select preferred seats and view a fare calendar. Govt extends deadline for Kharif crop insurance
Lucknow: The state govt has extended the last date for getting crop insurance for all the notified Kharif crops till Aug 14 for non-loanee farmers and Aug 30 for loanee farmers. Earlier, July 31 was the deadline. The insurance premium for all Kharif crops is 2% paid by the farmers, and the remaining amount is paid by the central/state govt. The agriculture department has appealed to the farmers to benefit from the scheme by getting their notified crops insured by the due date extended in the interest of farmers for crop insurance. According to a state govt spokesperson, farmers need to keep all the information/documents related to Aadhaar, farmer ID, field and crop. Aadhaar card, Khatauni, bank passbook, and details of the crop (which is to be insured) are the necessary documents for farmers to get crop insurance. Crop insurance can also be done by self-registering at a bank, common service centre, or portal Likewise, the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is operated to compensate the farmers in case of pest and disease outbreak, drought, flood, storm, hailstorm, as well as unsuccessful sowing, etc. It protects farmers from crop damage. Its main objective is to keep the income of farmers stable.

Employees of 41 sewa kendras go on strike over unpaid dues
Ludhiana: Residents across Ludhiana faced inconvenience on Friday as employees of 41 Sewa Kendras went on strike over delayed salaries and unexplained deductions. The protest, which lasted from 9am to 3pm, disrupted services at key centres, including the mini secretariat, where hundreds of applications are processed daily. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The employees, hired on contract by a private company, alleged that their June salaries were paid only on July 29, and even then, Rs 2,800 to Rs 3,200 had been deducted without explanation. Gurpreet Singh, president of the Sewa Kendra Union, Ludhiana, said that the strike was a result of repeated delays and lack of transparency. Each day, the Mini Secretariat Sewa Kendra handles 400 to 500 applications, while other centres process 100 to 150 applications. With counters unmanned during the protest, thousands of applications were left pending. By evening, the protest was called off after the company assured employees that salaries would be paid by August 10, and the deducted amounts would be reimbursed. Employees resumed work following the assurance. Meanwhile, residents visiting the centres were left frustrated. Mandeep Singh from Haibowal, who came to apply for a bank-related document, said his time and travel expenses were wasted. Atma Singh, who needed to renew his driving licence, also returned disappointed. Another applicant, who took leave from work to correct Aadhaar details, said that his leave was wasted as the centre was non-functional. India Post Payments Bank starts Aadhaar-based face authentication for digital banking
India Post Payments Bank has started nationwide rollout of Aadhaar-based face authentication facility for customer transactions that is expected to make digital banking more secure and convenient especially for the elderly and differently abled people, according to a statement on Friday. The face authentication feature, developed under the framework of UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India), will enable customers to perform banking transactions using facial recognition, eliminating the need for physical biometric inputs like fingerprints or OTPs.
