Malaysia Eyes Regional Expansion For Local Films And Animation IPS
He said the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) is actively forging strategic partnerships to facilitate the entry of Malaysian creative IPs into high-potential ASEAN markets, including Indonesia, Vietnam, and Cambodia.
'We've seen how Upin & Ipin received tremendous response in Indonesia. Several local films have also successfully penetrated markets like Vietnam and Cambodia.
'These efforts will be intensified to open wider opportunities for our local creative industry players,' he said when asked about the direction of the animation sector following the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which emphasises the creative economy as a new driver of national growth, at the Riuh Hangout 2025 event organised by MyCreative Ventures today.
Also present were Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching and Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa.
Fahmi said that both Finas and MyCreative Ventures have been tasked with not only providing funding but also facilitating collaboration between animation creators and corporate banking institutions that are increasingly recognising the revenue potential of the creative industry.
'We want to foster synergy between the corporate banking sector and the creative industry in terms of financing. These ties will be strengthened, while licensing and distribution matters will be handled by Finas,' he said.
Fahmi noted that this initiative aligns with the 13th Malaysia Plan's (13MP) focus on developing the creative economy, particularly by expanding into export markets and boosting the global competitiveness of Malaysian creative content.
He added that further details on the initiative are expected to be presented during his winding-up speech on the debate on the 13MP in Parliament on Aug 20.

#SHOWBIZ: Four music icons, one family legacy
FOR the first time, four of Malaysia's most powerful musical voices — all connected by family ties — will perform together on one stage. The historic 'Empat Live In Kuala Lumpur 2025' concert promises to be a landmark event in local entertainment. "This is such an exciting project," shared singer Anuar Zain. "None of us ever thought that fate would bring the four of us — my elder sister Ziana, our niece Ernie, and her husband Syamel — together not only in the same industry but now performing side-by-side on the same stage," said the 55-year-old, who first rose to fame in the mid-1980s as half of the duo Anuar & Ellina. The concert is scheduled for Oct 18 at Mega Star Arena, Kuala Lumpur. It is set to be one of the most meaningful musical collaborations in Malaysia's music scene, distinguished by the heartfelt family connection shared by the four performers. Dream comes true Anuar explained that the idea for the concert had been in the works for two to three years, but they had to wait for the right moment due to everyone's busy schedules. "This will be more than just a concert. "It's a celebration of family ties, of the talent we are grateful for, and a token of appreciation for the incredible support we've received from fans of all generations. "We truly hope the audience will come with a spirit of love, unity, and appreciation for the musical journey we've shared," he said. His 33-year-old niece, Ernie Zakri, echoed his sentiments, describing the opportunity to share the stage with her musical heroes as both emotional and surreal. "I cried when I was asked to be a part of this," Ernie recounted. "To be on stage with them, two singers I've admired since I was a child and watched working so hard to achieve greatness, is beyond a dream come true. This is a long-time dream of mine, which is finally happening." A new single Organised by Anuar Zain Network, the concert will be helmed by director Jennifer Thompson and music director Sze Wan to ensure an unforgettable sonic experience. Adding to the excitement, the four artistes will release a brand-new single, specially composed by popular songwriter and producer Edry Abdul Halim. The single is expected next month as a lead-up to the big night. "I've worked with Edry before, most notably on the song 'Sedetik Lebih'. During our recent meeting, he presented us with two options. One of them immediately resonated with all four of us. The moment it was played, we just knew it had to be that one. We were all in agreement without needing to say much," said Annuar. Edry, who is currently based in Manchester, will handle the song's mixing from his personal studio there. "He's a brilliant musician who understands each of our vocal characters, which makes the entire process more efficient and natural," Anuar elaborated. Anuar hopes this family collaboration will become a legacy for the future, both for their family and the Malaysian music scene. "We want this to be more than a one-time show. We want it to become a legacy that celebrates music, family, and the connection we share with our fans." As both a performer and organiser, Anuar is committed to delivering a top-tier experience. "My top priority is the sound system," he said. 'You can have great vocals and stunning costumes, but if the sound system is poor just because someone wants to cut costs, it will haunt me for months. For me, a concert must have excellent sound. When our performances are uploaded on social media, I want people to clearly hear the richness of our vocals and musical arrangements. "Fans might not notice technical aspects like the sound system, but as the organiser, I carry that responsibility. People are paying good money to attend this show, and we want to ensure they leave feeling completely satisfied." With powerhouse performances, heartfelt storytelling, and the powerful thread of family running through it all, 'Empat Live In Kuala Lumpur 2025' is set to be a once-in-a-generation experience.

Academic Recognition Award Motivates Civil Servants To Pursue Higher Education
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- The Academic Recognition Award (HPA) initiative, announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is expected to motivate civil servants to enhance their knowledge and pursue higher academic qualifications. Lecturer at the Centre for Social Science Studies, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Prof Datuk Dr Sivamurugan Pandian said the HPA acknowledges the efforts of civil servants who pursue further studies at their own expense and sends a clear signal of support for human capital development. 'Many civil servants who continue their studies on their own may feel more appreciated because there is an official recognition from the government. The HPA is seen as an encouragement, showing that lifelong learning is valued,' he said when contacted by Bernama. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in his address at the 20th edition of the Majlis Amanat Perdana Perkhidmatan Awam (MAPPA XX) yesterday, announced that HPA would be granted as a one-time financial incentive to civil servants in the management, professional, and implementation groups who completed their studies at their own expense. The HPA incentive is set at RM1,250 for a doctorate, RM1,000 for a master's degree, RM750 for a bachelor's degree, and RM500 for a diploma or equivalent qualification, with a total allocation of RM75.7 million expected to benefit 91,672 civil servants. Sivamurugan noted that, although the award does not fully cover the cost of studies, it serves as a symbol of appreciation alongside other support measures such as flexible working hours, access to loans or grants, career recognition, and collaboration with higher learning institutions to offer relevant courses. He added that initiatives like the HPA are expected to enhance the technical competence and knowledge of civil servants, foster a culture of continuous learning, and strengthen the public sector's competitiveness in the digital era and in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. 'This measure helps build the image of an administration that is committed to reform, civil servant-friendly, and prioritises human capital as a driver of national progress,' said Sivamurugan. For Nur Suria Iskandar, 28, a teacher at a primary school, the incentive provided a boost of motivation and enthusiasm, as she had long aspired to pursue a master's degree.
