Morocco World5 days ago
Morocco's Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch reaffirmed that that the government stands firmly aligned with King Mohammed VI's vision to push forward territorial development efforts across the country
Speaking after the royal reception held today in M'diq to mark Throne Day, Akhannouch described the occasion as a meaningful celebration for all Moroccans.
He said the anniversary offers a renewed opportunity to reflect on the key achievements and major projects carried out under the King's leadership, especially in the economic and social sectors.
Akhannouch also drew attention to the content of the King's Throne Day speech, which he said lays out new directions for boosting territorial development.
He stressed that the government remains fully mobilized to implement the royal strategies aimed at creating broader opportunities and improving conditions across Moroccan regions.
The King's vision for territorial development
In his speech on July 29, the King outlined a vision for territorial development across the country.
The monarch called for moving from 'classic patterns of social development to an approach in terms of integrated territorial development.'
He stressed that there is no place, neither today nor tomorrow, 'for a Morocco advancing at two speeds.'
The King outlined four priority areas for new territorial development programs, including employment promotion through 'valorization of regional economic potential and the establishment of a climate favorable to entrepreneurship and local investment.'
The second area concerns strengthening basic social services, particularly education and healthcare, 'to preserve the dignity of citizens and establish spatial justice.'
The king also raised the need for a 'proactive water resource management in response to worsening water stress and climate change,' as well as 'launching integrated territorial upgrading projects in alignment with national mega-projects.' Morocco Stands as African Hub Thanks to Economic Diplomacy

Morocco has successfully developed an active economic diplomacy that has positioned it as a true hub of Africa, affirmed the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Mahmoud Ali Youssouf. In a meeting held Wednesday at the Moroccan embassy in Addis Ababa, the AU official attributed this standing to the country's numerous investments in forward-looking sectors such as infrastructure, telecommunications, agriculture, finance, and energy. The meeting was organized by the Embassy, the Kingdom's Permanent Mission to the African Union (AU) and the UNECA, on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of His Majesty King Mohammed VI's accession to the Throne. The AUC Chair also highlighted Morocco's entrepreneurial presence in many AU Member States, praising the Kingdom's economic dynamism, which he said promises a bright future for both Morocco and the African continent as a whole. He further noted that the wise leadership of His Majesty the King in steering Morocco's diplomatic, geopolitical, economic, and cultural outreach has made the country an increasingly attractive destination for investors and tourists alike. The AUC Chairperson also took the opportunity to express his deep gratitude to Morocco for its "multifaceted contribution to the smooth functioning of the African Union." MAP: 31 July 2025

Justice and Charity group urges Moroccan scholars to speak out on Gaza

The Justice and Charity Group has issued an « urgent appeal » to Moroccan scholars, urging them to break their silence over the ongoing massacres in Gaza, which have persisted for nearly two years. The group highlighted that the widespread acts of killing, destruction, and siege, occurring «in full view and hearing of Muslims and the world», create an undeniable legal and ethical obligation for scholars to speak out. Signed by the group's scientific body, the appeal underscores that scholars, as the «heirs of the prophets», have historically been leaders in the ongoing reform movements within the nation. Their role becomes even more crucial «in times of trials and when tribulations intensify» to illuminate the truth and separate it from falsehood. The group called on Moroccan scholars to lead the charge in «awakening the nation, both rulers and the ruled», to fulfill the urgent need to provide aid to Gaza, including essentials like food, water, medicine, and shelter. In its appeal, the group posed a poignant question: «Does the conscience of our leaders, their knowledge, faith, and fear of God still permit silence in the face of the horrors occurring in Palestine?» They emphasized that remaining silent equates to a «betrayal of God and His Messenger» and invokes «the curse of God, the angels, and all people.» In conclusion, the group urged Moroccan scholars to «abandon the seats of silence» and take an active role in «leading the people» by clarifying Islamic law's stance on the situation in Gaza, whether through platforms or in public spaces. They called on scholars to advise the rulers and «urge them to stop supporting the Zionist enemy and backing it in all forms of normalization», asserting that «the evidence is clear and excuses are no longer valid».

Tindouf : Growing discontent over Polisario's diplomatic deadlock

As the Polisario Front grapples with diplomatic setbacks across Africa, Europe, and America, a media outlet closely aligned with the Front advocates for «an ambitious overhaul of the Polisario Front's diplomatic strategy». «This impasse has led us to mistakenly celebrate mere participation in African Union summits as a 'victory'. Numerous indicators point to the decline of Sahrawi diplomacy, shifting from a phase of growth to one of mechanical stagnation.» The outlet, known for its ties to the Polisario, decries «the lack of a unified diplomatic approach, which has allowed Morocco to fill the gap, particularly within the African Union. The organization has remained silent as many African nations have opened consulates in territories under the sovereignty of the Sahrawi Republic». Meanwhile, Algeria is attempting to downplay these diplomatic challenges. «Today, Western Sahara is recognized by half of the African Union members (in reality, less than a third, editor's note). There are 55 states that recognize the Sahrawi Republic (in reality, about half that number, editor's note)», asserted President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during a July 18 interview with Algerian media. The call for diplomatic reform, issued on Saturday, August 2, by a Sahrawi media outlet, coincided with President Donald Trump's reaffirmation of U.S. recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara. The Polisario's diplomatic struggles reflect the broader decline of Algeria's influence in Africa, a shift that has recently left Algiers increasingly isolated in the Sahel region, once considered its stronghold.
