ANDREW BALDING has saddled more winners than anyone else in Britain this year.
Now KALPANA can prove the jewel in the trainer's crown on Saturday.

A small field looks certain for the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.
And I'm backing the four-year-old to make a winning return to the scene of last October's Group 1 success.
The winner of last weekend's Listed Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton 12 months ago went on to land the Fillies' and Mares' on Ascot's Champions Day and both of her runs over the Curragh's ten furlongs have promised plenty this season.
Epsom's Coronation Cup 1-2 Jan Breughel and Calandagan (winner since) dominate the market.
But Kalpana's form in ten furlongs Group Ones behind Los Angeles (third) and Whirl (second) were both superb efforts and she looks certain to enjoy Saturday's return to a mile and a half (4.10).
Oisin Murphy replaces suspended Colin Keane, but the jockey was on board for Kalpana's third to Los Angeles in the Tattersalls Gold Cup before Keane (fourth on White Birch) then became Juddmonte's retained rider.
His 2-3-3 on the mare includes last summer's course and distance third in the Ribblesdale.
Soft ground looks unlikely, but this week's rain has ensured Ascot's officially good terrain should be fine for everyone and Juddmonte have committed the filly to contest a race which the owners' legendary Enable won three times in 2017, 2019 and 2020.
Ian Williams' Aalto was a 40-1 second for this column in the Bunbury Cup two weeks ago.
But I'm siding against the likely favourite for Saturday's International Stakes by backing Michael Dods' NORTHERN EXPRESS at 3.0.
Racehorse owned by TikTok star Big John that costs £60 a share branded 'terrible' after beating one rival in three races
Paul Mulrennan's mount has finished 441 in the last three runnings of this £150,000 handicap.
Last year's success was secured off a mark of 102 and seven races without a win since have seen him tumble back down to Saturday's rating of 100.
Each of my selection's last three outings at York, Ascot and Haydock have looked totally geared to Saturday's big race.
And that middle effort to be seventh of 27 in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at the Royal meeting was particularly meritorious with the International in mind.
Dods' horses have hit a rich vein of summer form and silver fox Mulrennan was seen at his best in getting my Tuesday nap JM JHINGREE home at 10-1 at Musselburgh.
Jim Crowley missed a trip to Ayr to ride new Stewards' Cup favourite Almeraq on Monday.
But the jockey's at York for ELMONJED on Saturday (2.0) and William Haggas' sprinter can get off the mark for the season.
ONE NIGHT THUNDER gets the nap vote in Doncaster's 4.20 today.
And a second horse worth following in the likely soft conditions is handicap debutant LEGEND FOREVER at 4.55.
Adrian Keatley's three-year-old tackles ten furlongs for the first time from a lowly opening mark of 70.
This horse has shown up well enough in his three qualifying runs over seven furlongs to suggest the trainer is taking a leaf out of Sir Mark Prescott's playbook.
The Keatley yard had a 28-1 first-time-out winner at Ayr on Monday after Kihavah went down with all guns blazing at Market Rasen last Saturday.
And Legend Forever can defy a nine-week lay off with a first-time tongue tie applied for this step up in trip.
Leopardstown has some unusually small fields for tonight's card, but QUIZ TEST was a half-length second in the closing stayers' handicap 12 months ago and the five-year-old can go one better under Shane Foley at 8.27.
The jockey's been on board for five of the horse's 15 starts and Sean Byrne's runner is 5lbs lower than last year with a first-time tongue tie added to his cheekpieces from last month's fifth at Limerick.
I FANCY Reciprocated could be a short price to complete an Ascot hat-trick tomorrow (2.25) but CAPE ASHIZURI was impressive on debut at Ayr and can win again. York and Sandown race in the evening and YAASER can boost the Almeraq Ayr form in the Knavesmire's 5.30 under the impressive Lauren Young.
RACING LEAGUE gets back under way at Yarmouth tonight and at least there's a Scottish connection to one of 'our' runners in the opener at 5.40. Charlie Johnston's NEOMA has been a neck and a nose short of completing a hat-trick the last twice and a 4lbs rise should be fine under Joe Fanning.

Dodgers activate RHP Blake Treinen from injured list

July 27 - The Los Angeles Dodgers activated reliever Blake Treinen from the 60-day injured list on Sunday. The 37-year-old right-hander has been out since mid-April with right forearm tightness. He was 0-2 with a 3.38 ERA and two saves in eight appearances before the injury. Treinen made the All-Star team with the then-Oakland Athletics in 2018 and won World Series championships with the Dodgers in 2020 and 2024. He is 43-36 with a 2.79 ERA and 82 saves in 507 career games (seven starts) with the Washington Nationals (2014-17), Athletics (2017-19) and Dodgers. Treinen missed the 2023 season following shoulder surgery. The Dodgers also recalled southpaw Justin Wrobleski and optioned right-handers Will Klein and Edgardo Henriquez to Triple-A Oklahoma City. --Field Level Media

Scott Brown raids Celtic to land starlet tipped as a future Hoops captain to aid promotion push

And now he's snapped up a starlet who his old boss tipped as a 'future Celtic captain' to help with his latest promotion push. They looked a much more serious threat at the start of last campaign though, seeming to be Falkirk's biggest challengers for the title. Brown's men fell away though and eventually finished third, before being dramatically knocked out of the play-offs by Partick Thistle. The former Celtic captain will be looking to go the extra mile and seal the Honest Men's return to the top flight after 47 years away, and will hope a signing from his old team's youth setup will put them closer. That's as Ayr have signed Kyle Ure from Celts on a season-long loan, with Brown naming him on the bench already for today's Premier Sports Cup clash with St Mirren. Ure is yet to feature competitively for the Celtic first team, but captained the under-18s to a famous 6-5 win over Rangers in the 2023 Scottish Youth Cup final. 4 Kyle Ure was named on the bench for Ayr against St Mirren Credit: Alamy He's since been promoted to the B team and earned a new two-year deal at Parkhead back in February. And he earned rave reviews for his display in the Hoops' friendly victory over Queen's Park last month, even being mistaken by some supporters for club captain Callum McGregor. The 19-year-old is well-regarded by Celts, and by Brown's former manager and now divisional rival Neil Lennon. The Dunfermline boss said back when Ure penned his deal: "Kyle Ure has played really well in the UEFA Youth League and it's great to see him signing an extension with Celtic, he is very highly thought of. Shock scenes as Celtic and Ajax fans clash during Como Cup friendly tournament in Italy "There will no doubt be suitors looking on, but it's great that he has pledged his future to the club because there are some great role models in the building including Callum McGregor who he can look up to. "Everyone at Celtic is delighted to have him on board and now is the time to develop him into a first team player where he can really mature. "I think the club can get the best out of him and with his leadership qualities, why can't he even be a future captain." 'Ich liebe Deutschland!' Oisin Murphy celebrates biggest win since drink-drive conviction

The four-time champion jockey surprised his hosts by giving answers in German after Group 1 success in Munich on Godolphin's Tornado Alert Oisin Murphy caught his hosts by surprise when he recorded his first Group 1 victory since he was convicted of drink-driving on Sunday. ‌ Earlier in July the four-time champion jockey was fined £70,000 and banned from driving for 20 months earlier in July after being almost twice over the legal alcohol limit in a breath test taken nearly seven hours after his arrest.. The 29-year-old pleaded guilty at Reading magistrates court to driving a motor vehicle while over the prescribed limit of alcohol after the car he was driving left the road and crashed into a tree, injuring a female passenger, in April. ‌ The conviction led to the BHA imposing stricter conditions on his licence which already included a stipulation to 'remain sober' after he completed a 14-month ban for breaking Covid rules and for two alcohol breaches in 2022. ‌ The four-time champion, who had finished second in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on Saturday, travelled to Germany on Sunday where he steered the Saeed Bin Suroor-trained Tornado Alert to victory in the Grosser Dallmayr-Preis in Munich. The Godolphin three-year-old kicked away from Map Of Stars to score by two and a half lengths, giving Murphy only his second top level success of 2025. Murphy had not registered a Group 1 triumph since landing the Lockinge Stakes on Lead Artist in May. In the post race interview, he gave his initial answers in German, saying: 'It's incredible, he's a fantastic horse and I love the atmosphere here.' He then added: 'Ich liebe Deutschland.' It's not the first time he has displayed his linguistic skills. He also learned Japanese when he rode in the country. He then said: 'It's fantastic to win on Tornado Alert. We were uncertain he would like the ground but he loved it. He ran very well in the Epsom Derby. He was second at Ascot and today he came to Munich and he was brilliant.' ‌ Bin Suroor said: 'He won well, the ground was heavy and he's never run before on this ground, but he handled it well.' 'I said to Oisin before the race 'just keep him happy and give him a chance', but he was travelling good all the way and when he came off the bridle he saw it out well.' Tornado Alert holds big-race entries in the Juddmonte International at York and the Celebration Mile at Goodwood next month, but Bin Suroor is in no rush to firm up future plans, adding: 'We'll see how he comes back after the race and then we'll make a decision. He has plenty of speed, but I think a mile and a quarter is his best trip at the moment.'
