SRH vs DC LIVE Score, IPL 2025: Sunrisers Hyderabad takes on Delhi Capitals; Streaming info, Predicted XI

The Hindu05-05-2025

PREVIEW
Having entered the season as one of the title favourites, failure on all fronts has reduced Sunrisers Hyderabad to an also-ran in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
While some convoluted mathematics keep the side in contention for the playoffs, Sunrisers have long lost control over their destiny coming into the clash with Delhi Capitals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here on Monday.
When these two teams met in Visakhapatnam at the end of March, Mitchell Starc wreaked havoc.
Sunrisers were four wickets down inside the PowerPlay and were staring at an embarrassingly low score until Aniket Verma announced his arrival with an exquisite knock (74, 41b, 5x4, 6x6), which, in the end, went in vain.

Josh Hazlewood Criticised for Choosing IPL Over WTC Final Prep, Says Mitchell Johnson

Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has come under criticism for choosing to return to the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) just before the World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa. Former cricketer Mitchell Johnson raised concerns over Hazlewood's decision, suggesting it impacted his performance in the final. Hazlewood had reportedly skipped early IPL matches due to fitness issues and uncertainty caused by India-Pakistan tensions, which had briefly halted the tournament. However, he returned to play in the final stages of the IPL. Soon after, he featured in the WTC final at Lord's, where Australia lost by five wickets. Hazlewood took only two wickets in that match. Mitchell Johnson pointed out that Hazlewood's recent fitness record and late return to IPL ahead of a major Test match raised doubts about player priorities. He also stressed that Australia's senior bowling group—Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon, and Hazlewood—should not be seen as permanent choices going forward. Johnson called on selectors to focus on new talent and give fair opportunities to players on the fringes such as Sam Konstas, Josh Inglis, and Scott Boland. He felt these players bring the right attitude and hunger to perform consistently. With the upcoming West Indies Test series and Steve Smith recovering from a finger injury, Johnson felt it's a good time to experiment and prepare for the future. He advised against overhauling the entire top order but stressed the need for a stable No.3 batsman, suggesting that Labuschagne may not be the best fit based on recent form.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Son Plays In US Cricket League Despite Tough BCCI Laws. Here's How

Agni Chopra, son of filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra, is currently playing for MI New York in the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC). The 26-year-old previously played domestic cricket in India with his latest outing coming in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season. As a result, it came as a surprise for many that he is playing in an overseas league considering the tough BCCI stance in this matter. BCCI does not allow any active cricketer to play in any overseas cricket league and they can only play in these competitions after their retirement or after procuring a No Objection Certificate (NOC). However, the reason behind Agni's exemption is simple: He does not hold an Indian passport. Agni was born in Detroit, Michigan and as a result, he is exempt from the BCCI rule regarding overseas cricket league participation. However, under the new BCCI rules, he will also not be able to play in the domestic leagues until he becomes an Indian citizen. Agni became the first player to score First Class centuries in each of his first four matches. During the 2023-24 Ranji season, he was a top performer for Mizoram and earned a lot of praise from experts. Earlier, he said that he would have applied for an Indian passport if he was picked for the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, despite expressing his wish to play in the league on multiple occasions, he was not picked by any of the franchises and he decided to play in the United States-based league. 'I would have still applied for an Indian passport and stayed if I had been picked in the Indian Premier League but [I am] looking forward to my time in America now,' he told Times of India.

Team India Newcomer Names Spinner As 'Inspiration'. Not R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja Or Kuldeep Yadav

Ahead of the first Test against England at Leeds, India's rising batting star Sai Sudharsan spoke on how fellow Tamil Nadu all-rounder Washington Sundar has been an inspiration for him, motivating him to rise up the ranks and wear the Indian colours quickly. The first Test against England at Leeds from June 20 onwards could kickstart the Test career of a 23-year-old Sudharsan, who has represented India in three ODIs and a T20I so far, getting two ODI half-centuries in South Africa. Recently, he won the Orange Cap for most runs and the 'Emerging Player' award during the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Gujarat Titans (GT), scoring 759 runs in 16 innings, with a century and six half-centuries. Sudharsan is Sundar's junior in domestic cricket, with the all-rounder having made his first-class debut at the age of 17 back in 2016. Sudharsan's debut came at the age of 21, six years later. Before becoming an IPL star, Sudharsan's grind came in Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), where he sits at number 10 among top run-getters, with 1,303 runs in 30 innings at an average of 56.65, a century and 13 fifties. Speaking about looking up to Sundar, who made his international debut as a teen in 2017 and Test debut in 2021 during the legendary Brisbane Test against Australia, Sudharsan said that the 25-year-old's quick rise served as an "inspiration" and "motivator" for him. "He has been my inspiration since I was young. I have played a few games against him, so it is always special. To be honest, we have looked up to him a lot. I have practised once or twice (against Sundar), the way he went up and the way he played for the country, it was really quick, so I had that in my mind. He did well in the IPL, and then he played for the country. So it was a great motivator for me from Chennai. Knowing him since I was young, playing with him, it is kind of inspiring. It made me feel I want to do things the same way," said Sudharsan in a video posted on BCCI's official website. Sundar is also extremely proud of the youngster's growth over the years, saying that he has inspired a lot of kids in Chennai already. "I have watched him on TV. There is a lot to take away from him, his skillset and work ethic he has got. He has inspired a lot of kids in Chennai, and I hope he will continue inspiring kids all over the world," said Sundar. "He has told me about that quite a few times. A lot of my friends and coaches, as well, have spoken about his growth. He has only grown in the last three or four years and has got better with every year," he concluded. India tour of England will take place from June to August 2025, with matches to be played at Headingley (Leeds), Edgbaston (Birmingham), Lord's (London), Old Trafford (Manchester), and The Oval (London). A new era beckons for India in the Test format as the modern-day giants gear up for their first assignment without the prized batting bigwigs Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Shubman Gill, India's youngest Test captain, has taken the baton from Rohit to guide the nation to success and challenge for the World Test Championship mace. India's Test squad for England series: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.
