Zoe Ball returns to BBC Radio 2 after quitting the Breakfast Show 4 months ago
Zoe Ball is returning to BBC Radio 2 after she left her breakfast show to 'focus on family' nearly five months ago.
The 54-year-old, who was the station's first female breakfast show host, took over the role from Chris Evans in January 2019.
During her final Radio 2 Breakfast show, Zoe received messages from singer Kylie Minogue, England footballer Alessia Russo and Doctor Who star David Tennant when she said goodbye for the last time in December 2024.
After her departure, former Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills took over her slot in January 2025 and his previous weekday slot of 2pm to 4pm has been filled by Trevor Nelson.
But today (May 3), Zoe will be making a comeback to Radio 2 and interviewing comedian Roisin Conaty when she presents her first new weekend show at 1pm.
The synopsis for the two-hour show on the Radio 2 website describes her new Saturday slot as 'the best songs and chat for a Saturday'.
Later this week, she will also play a part in the BBC's VE Day 80: A Celebration to Remember, taking place at the Horse Guards Parade in London.
The DJ will present the live concert on Thursday (May 8) from 8pm to 10pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
Sharing a post on her Instagram stories about the event, she said: "Thrilled to be playing a small part on Thursday.
"There are some wonderful surprises and some very moving moments."
In the summer of 2024, Zoe took a break from hosting The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, returning in September.
She then announced her decision to leave after almost six years in November 2024, saying it was time for her to 'step away from the very early mornings and focus on family'.
Zoe was previously married to musician and DJ Norman Cook, known as Fatboy Slim, and the pair have two children together: a son, Woody Fred Cook, born in 2000, and a daughter, Nelly May Lois Cook, who was born in 2010.
She was the first woman to present the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show solo when her co-host Kevin Greening left the show in 1998.

However, the Celebrity Gogglebox star departed the role in 2000 and went on to become the first permanent female breakfast show host at BBC Radio 2 almost 19 years later.
She presented a Saturday morning show on BBC Radio 2 from 2009 to 2012 and returned permanently to Radio 2 in 2017 as the host of the Saturday afternoon show, a role she held until she began hosting the breakfast show.
Zoe will present her BBC Radio 2 show from 1pm to 3pm on Saturdays.

David Beckham to receive Knighthood from King Charles
June 6 (UPI) -- Soccer icon David Beckham will be awarded knighthood next week as part of King Charles' birthday festivities. Sources told the BBC, Sky Sports and The Times about the plan Thursday night. Beckham, 50, will take on the title of Sir, while his wife, Victoria Beckham, will be known as Lady Beckham. Beckham, who has long served as an ambassador for the King's Foundation and UNICEF, was first nominated for knighthood in 2011. The Inter Miami co-owner, who retired from soccer in 2013, was appointed as an OBE -- Order of the British Empire -- in 2003. Beckham appeared in 115 games for the England men's national team. He was captain during 59 of those appearances. He is the only English men's player to score at three different World Cups. Beckham also won six Premier League crowns while at Manchester United before starring at Real Madrid and moving to the MLS to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy. He later spent time with AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain. King Charles, 76, was born Nov. 14, 1948, but will celebrate his official birthday at June's traditional Trooping the Color ceremony.
