Jet Li's eldest daughter getting married, Entertainment News

Jet Li announced that his eldest daughter Li Si is getting married. In a Weibo post on Aug 8, the 62-year-old martial arts star wrote: "My eldest daughter's wedding gift is settled!" He added that he bought a Luxeed R7 SUV because the 37-year-old had said she liked the car design and how comfortable the seats are. "It's a gift for my daughter, so what she likes best is most important! I hope we can get the car earlier, so that the young couple can bring their dad for a ride," he added. Jet has Si and Taimi, 36, from his first marriage to Chinese former actress Huang Qiuyan as well as Jane, 25 and Jada, 22, from his second marriage to retired Hong Kong actress Nina Li. He revealed in an interview previously that Si and Taimi were brought up by their mother and as he was working hard for his career then, he felt he had "missed out a lot" in accompanying their growth. He added then that when he communicated with them, he could only ask about their studies and felt like he was "just doing [his] parental duties". Jet also reportedly tried improving his relationship with his two oldest daughters by sending them to private schools and attending parent-teacher meetings in Beijing despite his busy schedule. In an interview with Taiwanese media in 2024, he refuted rumours of a soured relationship between him, Huang and their two daughters. He said: "My wife and I have a good relationship with my four daughters that you wouldn't know. I don't need to explain my private life to anyone." Celebrate K-culture, K-pop and BTS at 2025 Purple Festa in Jeju on Sep 12 and 13

Sign up now: Get ST's newsletters delivered to your inbox The inaugural 2025 Purple Festa festival aims to be more inclusive, with wheelchair-friendly activities. SINGAPORE – On Sept 12 and 13, the inaugural K-culture festival 2025 Purple Festa will be held on Jeju Island, South Korea. Hosted by the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and organised by Jeju Tourism Organization (JTO), the free festival will feature activities like music performances, an art exhibition and a flea market. Jeju Island, known for its sprawling natural landscapes and fresh seafood, has received more international attention in recent years. Not only was the popular Netflix drama When Life Gives You Tangerines (2025) – starring South Korean A-listers IU and Park Bo-gum – filmed there, members of K-pop supergroup BTS have often visited the island for photo shoots, variety show filmings and leisure trips. Ms Lim Yeeun, assistant manager at JTO, believes this boost in global visibility will make the festival appealing to an international audience. She adds that inclusivity will feature largely in the programme. For example, a mini concert held on the first day will include a dedicated zone for wheelchair users, and the festival's venues – garden cafe Veke and the historic Jeju-mok Government Office, a former political administration office – are step-free for easier access. This focus on accessibility mirrors a broader movement in the live events industry. Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed. PHOTO: AFP Around the world, other events such as Britain's Glastonbury Festival and the United States' Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival have become more inclusive over the years, adding step-free access, having dedicated viewing platforms, and allowing guide dogs. 'Being accessible to all travellers is important to JTO. We hope everyone can comfortably enjoy what Jeju has to offer because every traveller is valuable to us,' says Ms Lim. The first day of the festival is dedicated to BTS fans, with activities such as dance lessons to learn iconic BTS choreography and a mini open-air concert featuring BTS cover performances. The second day's programme celebrates South Korean culture and lifestyle, with highlights including playing traditional games and trying on costumes from popular animated film KPop Demon Hunters (2025). Organisers have launched a special programme called the Equal Sign Tour, where three BTS fans who use wheelchairs, along with a companion each, will win round-trip flights to Jeju from Singapore and a four-day tour of the island. The cost of hotel accommodation and meals will be borne by the winners. The itinerary includes visits to Udo Island – known for its beautiful scenery and sea caves – and Saryeoni Forest Trail, where visitors can admire tall Japanese cedar trees and cypress trees on a 550m-long trail. The tour will also take the winners to popular sites previously visited by BTS members, like the restaurant Hyewon, famous for its Jeju black pork belly. Interested participants can apply at The contest closes on Aug 20 and winners will be informed via e-mail by Aug 22. Flights will be sponsored by South Korean low-cost carrier T'way Air, which is launching a new direct route from Singapore to Jeju, starting on Aug 15. One-way airfare in August starts from $215.20, based on checks by The Straits Times. The airline's regional manager Sun Wonkyu says the launch is a strategic move to diversify its portfolio of international routes. 'Singapore is a major aviation hub and key tourism market in South-east Asia, and we see this new route as a strategic opportunity to attract more Singaporean travellers to Jeju, while strengthening South Korea-Singapore exchanges,' he adds. On Sept 13, the festival will be held at the Jeju-mok Government Office, a former political administration office turned tourist attraction on the island. PHOTO: JEJU TOURISM ORGANIZATION Currently, Scoot is the only low-cost carrier to ply the non-stop route to Jeju from Singapore. By adding its new route to the mix, T'way Air aims 'to offer travellers a fresh alternative in a market with limited competition', says Mr Sun. According to data from JTO, the number of foreign travellers who visited Jeju Island nearly tripled between 2023 and 2024, from 709,350 to 1.9 million. The island is most popular among travellers from China, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore.

'Fate is unstoppable': Michelle Chia weds real estate agent boyfriend in whirlwind marriage, Entertainment News

Local actress Michelle Chia, 49, has tied the knot after a whirlwind romance. Her husband is 41-year-old real estate agent Jackson B, and their destination wedding was held on Saturday (Aug 8) on an Indonesian island, local Chinese media reported. Jackson, whose Chinese name is Chen Xiazhong, was a former Star Search contestant back in 2007 but left showbiz after nine months, Shin Min Daily News reported. Michelle was previously married to Malaysian-born actor Shaun Chen, with the pair announcing their divorce in 2011 after two years of marriage. On Sunday, Michelle and Jackson proudly showed glimpses of their special day and re-posted well-wishes from guests on social media. In a personal message posted on his Instagram account, Jackson wrote: "On Aug 8, I married my soulmate, Michelle Chia, in a private ceremony overseas - a moment more precious than any deals I've ever closed. Just pure love and commitment; sealed with a kiss, not a contract. "With SG60 approaching, we're honoured to celebrate our own chapter in this special year for Singapore. Here's to building a lifetime of memories together." [embed] Their wedding was an intimate affair, with only about 40 close friends and family in attendance. Amongst the bridal party were Michelle's celebrity pals such as Jesseca Liu, Priscelia Chan, Jaylee Woo, Apple Hong and Priscelia Lee. [embed] Other guests included local DJ Yasminne Cheng, actress Cynthia MacQuarrie and former actress Ericia Lee. [embed] Michelle, had told Shin Min Daily News in an interview that they'd decided to get married after dating for just over two months. The pair had first met each other back in 2008 — a brief encounter which Michelle admitted she doesn't remember. Their next meeting was in 2013 where they got to know each other better, but neither contacted each other until 2020. But it was only in 2024 when Jackson sent Michelle a birthday greeting did their relationship began to deepen. The pair subsequently went for coffee with a mutual friend and began chatting more frequently this year, reported Shin Min. To Michelle, their blossoming relationship felt like "a campus romance" where they would chat for four to five hours at a time, about everything under the sun. "I realised we are both very alike; I'm the female version of him, and he's the male version of me," said Michelle. While marriage wasn't on the cards at first, their attitudes soon changed. She told Shin Min: "Fate is unstoppable. Initially we felt we would be content just being together, but after that, our mindset changed." When asked what drew them to each other, Michelle said she appreciates his diligence, thoughtfulness and open-mindedness to differing opinions, while Jackson admires her patience, caring and consideration in the way she communicates with him. Their age gap was never an issue either, they told Lianhe Zaobao, with Jackson adding that compatibility was the most important criteria to him. According to Shin Min, he proposed to her at UTown at the National University of Singapore, as it was the location of their first date. While the proposal caught her off-guard, it did not come as a complete surprise. "He'd asked me before if I would mind having a 'lightning marriage'. I told him no, 'why would I mind?'" said Michelle. [[nid:714738]] candicecai@
