Nathan Eovaldi dominates Tigers as Rangers win series
May 11 - Nathan Eovaldi allowed just two hits in seven scoreless innings as the visiting Texas Rangers downed the Detroit Tigers 6-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Eovaldi (4-2) walked one and struck out seven while recording his fifth consecutive quality start. He has won all four of his career starts at Detroit's Comerica Park. Chris Martin, Jacob Latz and Robert Garcia pitched the last two innings to complete the victory.
Marcus Semien and Josh Jung supplied two-run homers and Jonah Heim added a solo shot. Jung's brother Jace started at third base for Detroit.
According to the Rangers' media relations department, Josh Jung's homer was the first by a player while playing against his brother on Mother's Day since at least 1969.
Adolis Garcia had two hits and scored two runs. Corey Seager was out of the lineup due to hamstring tightness. He smacked two solo home runs and an RBI double on Saturday.
Detroit starter Reese Olson (4-3) allowed three runs and seven hits with five strikeouts in four innings. Spencer Torkelson ended the shutout bid with a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
Texas won the last two games of the three-game weekend series.
The Rangers got on the board in the second. Garcia led off with a double down the left field line. Semien then jumped on the first pitch he saw for a two-run homer, which cleared the wall in left-center. Texas loaded the bases later in the inning on singles by Jung and Ezequiel Duran and a walk to Josh Smith. Olson escaped further damage by retiring Wyatt Langford on a flyout.
Riley Greene led off the bottom of the inning with a double off the wall. Eovaldi induced three groundouts to leave the score at 2-0.
Texas scored another run in the third. Garcia had a one-out single, stole second and scored on Evan Carter's two-out bloop hit to right.
The Rangers made it 5-0 with two outs in the fifth. Carter reached against Beau Brieske on an infield single before Jung blasted his two-run shot over the left-center field wall.
Heim homered off Brant Hurter in the eighth.

The Mariners regained the lead in the top of the fourth after loading the bases with no outs. Rowdy Tellez drove in the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to deep right field, with Jorge Soler making the catch just in front of the short fence near the right field foul pole. The second run of the inning scored when Leody Taveres grounded out, bringing in Cal Raleigh from third to give the Mariners a 3-1 lead. The Angels matched it again in the bottom of the fourth on d'Arnaud's two-run homer, tying the game at 3-3. The Mariners again took the lead at 4-3 in the fifth, getting a two-out RBI triple from Julio Rodriguez. Angels center fielder Jo Adell lost his glove over the fence trying to make the catch. The Angels responded again in the bottom of the fifth, getting an RBI double from Taylor and an RBI single from Schanuel for a 5-4 edge. Sonny Gray, Cardinals blank Dodgers in series opener
June 7 - Sonny Gray and three relievers combined on a shutout as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers 5-0 Friday night. Gray (7-1) worked 6 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits while striking out five and walking none. JoJo Romero, Phil Maton and Steven Matz took it from there, and Los Angeles finished 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position. Pedro Pages hit a two-run homer and Willson Contreras added a solo shot for the Cardinals. Brendan Donovan hit a two-run single, and Nolan Arenado went 3-for-4 with a run. Dodgers starter Justin Wrobleski (1-2) permitted four runs on six hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out five. By taking the opener of a three-game series, St. Louis won for just the second time in five games. Los Angeles took its fourth defeat in six games. June 7 - After rallying from a three-run deficit in the ninth inning, Oregon State upended Florida State 5-4 on AJ Singer's walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning in the opener of the Corvallis Super Regional on Friday night. With the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the 10th, Florida State got a forceout at the plate before Singer stepped up and delivered a single to center, scoring Gavin Turley to win the opener of the best-of-three series.
