PM Modi makes big announcement on fighter jets, Pakistan and China must be worried due to...

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address from the Red Fort on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day, emphasised the need to develop indigenous fighter jet engines in India. He described it as a big step towards self-reliance in the defence sector, adding that India will have to reduce its dependence on foreign suppliers and further accelerate its efforts in defence manufacturing. He also pointed out that the engine for 'Made in India' fighter jets should also be completely indigenous. What did PM Modi emphasise in his Independence Day address? PM Modi said that things made from the sweat and soil of the citizens of India strengthen India's self-reliance. He appealed to small traders to put up a board of indigenous goods at their shops and give priority to products made in the country. He said, 'We will use indigenous goods not out of compulsion, but with strength. This should be our mantra.' What areas did PM Modi focus on? The Prime Minister said that in today's IT era, the power of data and cybersecurity is very important. He emphasised the need to develop technologies like operating systems, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence in India. Zelenskyy hopes India will contribute to efforts to end Russia-Ukraine war

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday said he hoped New Delhi would contribute to efforts aimed at ending the war with Russia, as he wished India on its Independence Day. Zelenskyy's post on X came hours ahead of a summit meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska, aimed at ending the war, now in its fourth year. Congratulating the people of India, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Zelenskyy said, 'This week we had a good, candid conversation with Prime Minister @narendramodi when I had an opportunity to personally convey my best wishes on this occasion.' 'Our nations share the experience of standing up for freedom and dignity, as well as the pursuit of peace and development,' the Ukrainian president wrote. 'We hope that India will contribute to efforts aimed at ending the war, so that our freedom and sovereignty are truly secure,' Zelenskyy said. 'I am confident that the potential for mutually beneficial Ukraine–India cooperation lies ahead — in science, technology, trade, and culture. Wishing peace and prosperity!' he further said. Trump last week announced an additional 25 per cent tariff on US imports from India -- raising the overall duty to 50 per cent -- as a penalty for the country's continued imports of Russian oil. The tariffs will come into effect from August 27. India on Thursday said it has not halted oil purchases from Russia in response to the US president's tariff threat and continues to buy based solely on economic considerations. Responding to the US tariffs, the Ministry of External Affairs had said that the targeting of India is unjustified and unreasonable. 'Like any major economy, India will take all necessary measures to safeguard its national interests and economic security,' it said. Trump has said that India's purchasing of Russian oil is 'fuelling' the war machine. Women are key drivers of India's growth, says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (August 15, 2025) said that women in India were not only beneficiaries of a rising economy but also its key drivers. 'From start-ups to the space sector, from the playing fields to the armed forces, our daughters are making their mark. Today, with pride, women stand shoulder to shoulder in the country's journey of development,' Mr. Modi said in his address to the nation on Independence Day. 'Every sector now proudly acknowledges the strength of our nari shakti (women's power),' he said, mentioning the first batch of women cadets who graduated from the National Defence Academy (NDA). 'The whole country was filled with pride at that historic moment'. Mr. Modi also praised the transformative role of women's self-help groups (SHGs), saying that programmes like the 'NaMo Drone Didi' have given rural women a new identity. 'I am happy to inform the nation that, with the support of our nari shakti, two crore women have already become Lakhpati Didis,' he said. The Lakhpati Didi scheme, also known as the Lakhpati Didi Yojana, is an initiative by the Ministry of Rural Development that aims to empower women in SHGs to earn a sustainable annual household income of ₹1 lakh or more. Several of these 'Lakhpati Didis' were present at the Red Fort on Friday as special guests. Mr. Modi also paid homage to the visionaries who drafted India's Constitution, especially highlighting the role of women leaders in shaping the document. 'Our nari shakti also played an important role. Leaders like Hansa Mehta and Dakshayani Velayudhan made significant contributions in strengthening the Constitution of India,' he said.
