WCA has been looking for more space for its community activities since the discovery of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (raac) forced the closure of Westside Community Centre and South Ham Library.The council said that it, alongside SNG, had been supporting WCA in their search, and that Russell Howard Park, the Ridgeway Centre in Buckskin, and a new shop in Kings Road were all being used to deliver services such as a community cafe and pantry.The council's cabinet member for communities, partnerships and inclusion, John McKay, said the WCA's services were important to the local community."We have been doing everything we can to explore opportunities for temporary space in the heart of South Ham to support them to restart more activities for residents of all ages," he said."The purchase of this building provides a unique space to provide these life changing activities in a central and accessible location."He said the council was working to firm up the plans, as well as looking at a more long-term solution.

She also shared a video revealing that after six years of hard work - and driving a car she didn't like - she's finally bought her dream car. In 2023, she detailed her income in a TikTok video and has since become a vocal advocate for women in mining and FIFO (fly-in fly-out) roles. Ashlea said: "When I first started as a greenie [new truck driver], for my first three months I was paid $36.50 (£19.40) an hour. "And we do 12-hour days and I work on a two and two roster, so that's 14 days on and then I get 14 days off, so I pretty much work six months of the year." Just three months into her new job, she said her hourly pay jumped up to $43.50 (£23.10) an hour. She added: "So quite a nice jump. And for my first year as a greenie, that would have taken me to approximately $94-$95,000 (£49-£50,000) annually for the six months. "So, pretty cool for a new truckie." Her latest rate is about $51.50 (£27.30) an hour - and she gets a $2,000 (£1,060) bonus each month she stays with her contracting company. Ashlea said: "So that could be anywhere between $6,000 (£3,180) and $10,000 (£5,300). I quit my £43K job in the UK to be a grape-picker in Italy and have ZERO regrets - I don't get paid but I'm so happy "Annually, my $51.50 would be approximately $112,000 (£59,420). With my bonuses, that could be another $10,000, so $122,000 (£64,730) for my first year. "And then when I'm employed directly with the company itself, every full year you're employed through the mine site direct, they pay you a bonus also which I think is approximately $3,000 (£1,590) each year. "And then if the company itself does well I think they actually pay you a bit of a profit share just as a thanks, which I love." The TikToker explained in the comments section of her video that her employer covers the cost of everything - including accommodation, food and flights. She added that she only works 22 weeks a year, which is less than half the year once her four weeks of annual leave are factored in. Ashlea isn't the only woman who's turned her life around. In June 2021, Kelly Moore, a 44-year-old mum from Maidstone, walked away from a career in care and took a leap into something completely new. Once stuck in her overdraft and counting every penny, the mum-of-one has since left the nine-to-five grind behind - and now runs one of Maidstone's fastest-growing eco-cleaning businesses. Her company, Cleaning With Meaning, which uses handmade, refillable and environmentally friendly products, brings in £15,000 a month.
