The Seattle Mariners may already be the winners of this season's MLB trade deadline.
Seattle entered the All-Star break just six games over .500 but has since been one of the best teams in baseball. The Mariners have been especially good since July 31, the day of the MLB trade deadline.

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON - AUGUST 10: Eugenio Suárez #28, Mitch Garver #18, Jorge Polanco #7 and Matt Brash #47 of the Seattle Mariners dance with teammates after the game against the Tampa Bay Rays at T-Mobile Park on August 10, 2025 in Seattle, Washington. The Seattle Mariners won 6-3. MoreThey entered Tuesday 9-1 since the deadline passed, 7-0 in their last seven games and just one game behind the Houston Astros for first place in the American League West.
The success has come on the heels of general manager Jerry Dipoto being ultra-aggressive at the MLB trade deadline. He acquired both first baseman Josh Naylor and third baseman Eugenio Suarez from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Suarez was the bigger acquisition of the two, but it has been Naylor that has produced at an extremely high level since being acquired.
So far this month, Naylor boasts a slash line of .346/.433/.808, good for a 1.241 OPS.
Josh Naylor is the first player in @MLB HISTORY with 4+ home runs and 10+ stolen bases in his first 15 games with a franchise.
Naylor has 4 HR and 11 SB in his first 15 games with Seattle. https://t.co/f4FPwOqLRH — Mariners PR (@MarinersPR) August 10, 2025
Suarez, on the other hand, has not quite been as advertised in his second stint with Seattle.
The slash line for Suarez in August sits at .088/.135/.176, totaling just a .312 OPS.
He came to Seattle with 36 home runs on the season but has homered just one time since being traded from the Diamondbacks.

10 RBI
.105 AVG
.357 OPS

The lack of success from Suarez has been picked up by MLB's home run leader, Cal Raleigh.
Raleigh has been a catalyst of the Mariners' success all season but has picked it up again over the last four days. He has homered in each of the last three games to increase his league-leading total to 45 home runs on the season.
Superstar centerfielder Julio Rodriguez has also picked up his play of late with 12 home runs and a 1.011 OPS in the last month.
Julio Rodríguez in the last month:
1.011 OPS, 12 HR, 21 RBI, 7 SB, .296 AVG (32x108) & 1.8 fWAR in 26 games, with the @Mariners going 18-8 in those contests.@JRODshow44's 12 home runs since July 11 LEAD the American League and rank T-1st in @MLB during that span. pic.twitter.com/PgFtfj6Rjg — Mariners PR (@MarinersPR) August 11, 2025
With one of the best lineups and a pitching staff boasting the sixth-best ERA in baseball, Seattle has a chance to make quite a bit of noise in the postseason.

Packers waive injured rookie Jalen White to make room for addition at RB

The Green Bay Packers signed running back Tyrion Davis-Price before Tuesday's practice, and now we know the corresponding roster move: the team waived rookie running back Jalen White with an injury designation. White, an undrafted rookie out of Georgia Southern, injured his foot during the Packers' preseason loss to the New York Jets and wasn't available to practice Monday. The Packers are light on numbers at running back entering two big events this week and likely needed a healthy body at the position. Israel Abanikanda didn't practice Tuesday because of a new hamstring injury, while Emanuel Wilson (knee) and MarShawn Lloyd (groin) only just returned to practice in 11-on-11 periods on Tuesday. The Packers go to Indianapolis this week to have a joint practice and preseason game with the Colts. A two-time All-Sun Belt pick, White rushed for over 3,000 yards and scored 36 rushing touchdowns at Georgia Southern. He signed with the Packers following the 2025 NFL draft. A player who is waived with an injury designation reverts back to the team's injured reserve list if unclaimed on waivers. At that point, the Packers and White can determine if an injury settlement is the right option. Davis-Price gives the Packers an experienced running back who could handle snaps right away. A third-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2022, Davis-Price has played in eight NFL regular season games. He spent last season with the Philadelphia Eagles and was with the Tennessee Titans earlier this offseason.

Time may be running out for a former Ravens second-round draft pick

A former Ravens second-round draft pick may be running out of opportunities in Baltimore He's only 25 years old. It seems he'd be entering his prime years, but instead, a young Baltimore Ravens star is at a crossroads. Time has flown. David Ojabo, a second-round draft choice in 2022, enters the final season of his four-year rookie contract. His selection followed a stellar final season in Ann Arbor with the Michigan Wolverines. He was named a First-Team All-Big Ten selection and a Second-Team All-American in 2021. That elevated an already rising stock. Baltimore rolled the dice after having already added Kyle Hamilton and Tyler Linderbaum in Round 1. They worked out. Unfortunately, Ojabo hasn't. Might this be David Ojabo's last chance to make an impression? Teams expect first-rounders to be stars, but the meat of NFL rosters is built on Day 2 of every selection meeting. Ojabo's career resume features one start in 18 appearances over three years. 16 tackles, two forced fumbles, and four sacks are the results of his efforts. Needless to say, the Ravens were hoping for more. Now, there is more to the story. In fairness, he suffered an Achilles tear at his Michigan Pro Day back in 2022. That led to a trip to the injured reserve to begin his rookie season. He was activated in November of that same year, but honestly, he just wasn't ready. Year two came. He began his sophomore NFL season with three tackles and a sack vs. the Houston Texans while playing 48% of the snaps. More adversity came. Another trip to Baltimore's injured reserve came in September 2023. That ended his second professional campaign after he had only been on the field for a total of three games. Now, what? It's 2025. Baltimore enters another season with one of the best rosters they have had on paper in a while. That's saying a lot, given that they've been one of the genuine contenders in the AFC for some time now. They're loaded at edge rusher. Odafe Oweh, Kyle Van Noy, Adisa Isaac, and Tavius Robinson are the familiar faces. Mike Green is the exciting rookie. That leads to a question. Is there even any room on this roster for David Ojabo? He'll need to make an impression quickly. This season, he represents a $2.5 million cap hit, but he only counts as $733,022 in dead money if Baltimore releases him. It doesn't sound like someone safe. Keep an eye on him during the final two preseason games because it may be safe to say the former highly-touted rookie may be running out of chances.

Dave Roberts Speaks on Dodgers' Need for 'Urgency' as Padres Threat Looms

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Remember when everyone was concerned that the Los Angeles Dodgers were going to break Major League Baseball this season? Well, this Dodgers team certainly isn't playing like it has some sort of unfair advantage due to its massive payroll. The Dodgers have got the sixth-best record in MLB, and as of Tuesday afternoon, they've only got a one-game lead over the San Diego Padres for first place. Outside of 2021, when they won 106 games but finished a game behind the oddly dominant San Francisco Giants, the Dodgers haven't failed to win a division title since 2012. ATLANTA, GEORGIA - MAY 04: Manager Dave Roberts #30 of the Los Angeles Dodgers looks on prior to facing the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park on May 04, 2025 in Atlanta, Georgia. ATLANTA, GEORGIA - MAY 04: Manager Dave Roberts #30 of the Los Angeles Dodgers looks on prior to facing the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park on May 04, 2025 in Atlanta, Georgia. Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images Monday night's 7-4 loss to the Los Angeles Angels was perhaps a tipping point of sorts. The Dodgers now have lost all four Angels matchups this year, and sit a game under .500 since the All-Star break. Manager Dave Roberts seems to be adequately concerned with the mediocrity. He's now preaching a message of "urgency" as the threat of the Padres taking over first place looms. "There definitely has to be some urgency," Roberts said Monday night, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. "I don't think anyone is blind to the fact that the standings are the standings. It's gotten a lot more interesting. "So we've got to go out there and play good baseball. I definitely feel that our guys are starting to feel that urgency. It's been long enough of middling baseball." The Dodgers are now 5-5 since the trade deadline; the Padres, who were far more aggressive about improving their roster, are 7-3. It's a small sample size, to be certain, but there's no question about which team is playing with more momentum. Certainly, the Dodgers still have the best roster in the sport if everything starts clicking again. But there's no denying that things have been a little off, and though it could happen any day, there's no magic wand to wave that can get this team magically back on course.
