Signs Your ‘Soul Is Tired' — Sprituality Vs Science: Which Side Are You On?
Dr. Neeti Kaushik, an educationist who shares insights on personal and spiritual growth, explained how to recognise when your 'soul is tired.'
Feeling drained is something everyone experiences after a long workday, a sleepless night, or a hectic week. Usually, rest, nutritious food, and a bit of self-care help recharge. But sometimes, the fatigue runs deeper than it seems.
This is the kind of fatigue that affects the heart, mind and spirit. It is what many describe as when the 'soul is tired." Recently, Dr Neeti Kaushik, an educationist who shares personal and spiritual growth content, explained how to recognise this state in a video on Instagram.
'3 Signs Your Soul Is Tired'
Explaining about the first sign, Dr Kaushik said, 'You sleep for a long time, but even so, when you wake up, you feel tired." She also shared the reason behind this is that 'your body has rested, but the soul hasn't" because there is no peace, whether it is within you or outside.
Next, she spoke about withdrawing from people, even those you deeply care for. 'You avoid people, even those close to you, because your heart is crowded with too many overwhelming emotions," she explained.
According to her, these signs mean only one thing: you're burnt out. 'You're doing too much. There's too much weight. Lighten up, slow down and give time to yourself," she advised.
The Science Behind Feeling Tired Despite Enough Sleep
While Dr Kaushik's take focuses on the spiritual aspect, science points to several possible physical and psychological reasons for constant tiredness.
Sometimes, even after a long night's sleep, you can wake up feeling just as tired as when you went to bed. This can happen if your sleep quality is poor. For example, due to noise, light in the room, an uncomfortable mattress or conditions like restless legs syndrome can disturb your rest.
Sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, where breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep or irregular sleep schedules that disrupt your body's natural rhythm can also be factors.
In some cases, underlying health issues like anaemia, thyroid problems, diabetes or heart conditions may cause this constant fatigue. Mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, high stress levels or burnout can add to the problem.
Even certain lifestyle habits like drinking too much caffeine or alcohol, not moving enough during the day or leading a mostly sedentary life, can make you feel drained despite spending enough hours in bed.
Why You May Avoid People
Sometimes, avoiding people, even those you love, isn't about not caring for them. It can happen when social situations feel exhausting or overwhelming. This withdrawal can be linked to conditions such as social anxiety disorder, depression, avoidant personality disorder or schizoid personality disorder. It may also be a response to past trauma, where being around others feels unsafe or emotionally heavy. In many cases, people pull away simply because their minds and emotions are overloaded and they need space to recover.

When Nothing Feels Connected
There are times when life feels strangely distant, as if you are watching it from the outside. This emotional disconnection can be linked to conditions such as Depersonalization-derealization disorder, where people feel detached from themselves or their surroundings or dissociative amnesia, which involves gaps in memory. It may also occur in dissociative identity disorder, depression, anxiety disorders or during severe burnout.

Sports nutritionist shares what to eat before a run: From 2 hours to 15 minutes
Running is a test of endurance and stamina, a power-packed cardio exercise that gets your heart pumping and actively burning calories. But to power through a run, what you eat beforehand in a way makes how much you can run without ending up in a huffing and puffing mess mid-run, far away from the finish line. To keep your running session sustainable, instead of following a standard meal before a run, fine-tune it as per the time you have until the run. Make sure you eat right so that you have stamina during the run.(Shutterstock) ALSO READ: Are you running correctly? 3 hacks to push long distances without getting tired Dubai-based sports nutritionist and dietitian Carolina Villalta, who frequently shares tips with her Instagram community for running better with proper nutrition. She revealed in an August 7 post that what you eat before a run depends on the timing, so you should adjust your meal or snack to match how long you have before you hit the track. What to eat 2 hours before a run? Carolina wrote that 'Longer window = fuller meal, a bit of fats and protein is fine!' So it means if you have around two hours before your run, then you can safely eat a standard meal with protein, fats and little carbs. The food will digest in between, and when it's time to hit the track, you will have plenty of energy. An oatmeal consisting of fruit and nut butter helps sustain energy because oats provide carbs for energy, fruits offer natural sugar, and nut butter adds healthy fats.(Shutterstock) Here are some meal options, she shared: • Rice with egg • Oats, fruit, nut butter • Toast, avocado, ham What to eat 45-60 minutes before a run? Next, if you have about an hour before your run, skip the heavy meal and instead, the sports nutritionist suggested going for lighter, quick-digesting carbs that can be digested fast. Any heavy carb will make your stomach feel heavy and bloated during a run, hence settling for lighter carbs. Caroline listed out three light carb options: • Toast, banana, cinnamon •Toast, honey/jam • Bowl of fruit or baby food pouch What to eat 30 minutes before run? For 30 minutes before a run, you have less digestion time, so keeping it light is essential. Carolina recommended topping off glycogen and hydration, giving your body a quick energy boost and fluid intake without causing the usual heaviness of a meal. Here are some of the options she shared: • 2–3 dates, 200 ml water •Watermelon • Small smoothie (banana + berries + oat milk) • Energy chews or a small carb gel What to eat when you have less than 15 minutes before run? At this point, there's no time for your body to digest solid food, so Carolina didn't include any solid meals at all. So she recommended options that give a quick boost without the bulk: •Electrolyte drink • Spoon of honey (if low on energy) or add to water bottle Note to readers: This article is for informational purposes only and not a substitute for professional medical advice. Energy levels, concentration, and general workout performance can all be enhanced by a pre-workout diet and exercise. Benefits of Post-Workout Movements: Post-workout stretches that are held for a while, such as hamstring stretches, can help ease muscle tension and increase flexibility. Low HDL Levels Pose Heart Health Risk: Nutritionist Shares Tips To Boost Your Good Cholesterol Naturally
High-density lipoprotein (HDL), also known as the good cholesterol, is essential for eliminating low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and excess cholesterol from the bloodstream and transferring them to the liver for elimination. However, a large number of people have HDL levels below 40 mg/dL, which is deemed unhealthy and raises the risk of cardiovascular issues, according to nutritionist Anjali Mukerjee. In her recent Instagram post, Anjali mentions that HDL levels are declining as a result of modern lifestyles. Fear of dietary fat, excessively processed food and sedentary lifestyles have all contributed to the issue. While reducing LDL is a common focus, increasing HDL is equally important for heart health. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Anjali Mukerjee (@anjalimukerjee) Ways to boost HDL levels naturally Anjali Mukerjee shares the following guide to naturally increase the HDL levels and boost your heart's "good" cholesterol: 1. Exercise daily The first piece of advice is to exercise regularly. HDL levels can be naturally raised by walking briskly, cycling, swimming, or strength exercising for at least an hour every day. After a while, even little exercise, like brisk walking for 30 minutes, can have beneficial effects. "Exercise brings up HDL levels. So start exercising, whether it's a walk or strength training, any movement for about an hour a day," Anjali says. 2. Eat good fats The second strategy is to include healthy fats in the diet. Despite the widespread misconception that fats are bad, some fats can help lower cholesterol. Moderate use of ghee has been shown to promote HDL synthesis. "Have a tablespoon of ghee regularly, and it will raise the good cholesterol," Anjali advises. Furthermore, Anjali says that omega-3 fatty acid-rich foods provide an additional beneficial supplement. Besides increasing HDL, walnuts, flaxseeds, avocados and perilla seeds can help maintain a healthy omega-3 to omega-6 ratio, reducing inflammation and improving cholesterol transport. According to Anjali Mukerjee, avocados are another HDL-friendly meal that contains fibre and heart-healthy fats. The lipid profile may change noticeably if people swap processed snacks for a few slices of avocado or a handful of almonds. In summary, your heart may be more vulnerable if your HDL levels are below 40. The good news is that your cholesterol profile can be considerably improved by making small, regular changes like exercising daily and carefully including healthy fats.
