The 2025 MAMA Awards will be held in Hong Kong
Here's something to perk up K-pop fans on this dreary day: the MAMA Awards will take place in Hong Kong this year! Originally standing for the Mnet Asian Music Awards, this is one of South Korea's major music award ceremonies that occurs annually.
Korean music acts du jour and thousands of their fans will be filling the Kai Tak Stadium from November 28 to 29. This marks the return of the MAMA Awards to our city after seven years – the ceremony was held in Hong Kong from 2012 to 2017, and the last time they were in town was in 2018, when the event was split into three parts and Hong Kong hosted one of them.
Some of the award categories include Best Male and Female Artist, Best Male and Female Group, Best New Artist, Best Dance Performance, Best Rap Performance, Best Music Video, and more. The four grand prizes, known as daesang, are Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Fans' Choice of the Year (previously titled Worldwide Icon of the Year). Last year's ceremony saw Seventeen winning Artist of the Year and their EP Seventeenth Heaven winning Album of the Year, while the Song of the Year went to Aespa's Supernova, and BTS' Jimin took home the Fans' Choice of the Year.
Some of the Korean artists likely to be in the running this year would be Got7, Zerobaseone, Ive, Onew, Kandis, Blackpink's Jisoo, Jennie, and Lisa, and more – they've all released new EPs or albums this year. BTS will also make their much-awaited comeback this year following their mandatory military service, with the last member Suga being discharged on June 21.

Miley Cyrus sparks fierce speculation her new song is about 'feud' with Dua Lipa: 'She's so obsessed'
You would think that the power duo that came up with the hit-song Prisoner would be tethered for life (or at least be on cordial terms) but a new song may suggest otherwise. Miley Cyrus just came out with the song Every Girl You've Ever Loved and fans are speculating that the 80s-inspired pop song is about her alleged feud with Dua Lipa. The speculation centers around a few lines in the song: 'She speaks the perfect French / She can dance the night away / And still, she'll never break a sweat.' To some, these could easily be vague references. But others were quick to point out that Lipa fits this description almost exactly. She's shown off her French-speaking skills in a remix of Charli XCX and Troye Sivan 's Talk Talk, and her song Dance the Night from the Barbie soundtrack seems to be clearly referenced. The final line - about not breaking a sweat - has been interpreted in several ways, with some reading it as a subtle dig referencing a viral meme that once poked fun at Lipa's lackluster dancing. There is also the possibility that the lyric reflects a deeper comparison between the two artists. While Lipa is known for her cool, composed stage presence, Cyrus has been more open about the emotional and physical effort she puts into her performances. Some listeners believe the lyric may be less about criticizing Lipa and more about Cyrus examining her own feelings of insecurity or competition. So where would this alleged feud have come from? Though the two haven't had any public issues, it's worth noting that the two haven't collaborated since their 2020 song Prisoner - and haven't publicly interacted much since then. Also, fans noticed that recently Prisoner's song credits were changed. Cyrus is now listed as only the featured artist on the track, even though it was originally hers - and she wrote it. These combined occurrences have caused fans to call Cyrus out for the speculated shade. Fans speculated that the lyrics 'she speaks the perfect French' and 'she can dance the night away' are reference to Lipa 'She's so obsessed I can't,' one X (formerly Twitter) user commented, followed by a crying face emoji. Another user mirrored the sentiment, simply writing, 'obsession.' Some fans were shocked at how obvious the reference seemed to be. 'This actually being the real lyrics lmfao she needs to get over whatever happened between them,' one user wrote. The alleged shade comes at a unique time as Cyrus recently made headlines for finally addressing rumors that her 2023 music video for Flowers was shading Jennifer Lawrence who was said to have a fling with Cyrus' ex-husband Liam Hemsworth. When asked if the video was in reference to Lawrence, Cyrus said, 'No, but I love that dress of hers.' Whether the lyric was intended as shade or not, it has definitely sparked conversation - and any of Cyrus' actions typically do.
