Andrea Atzeni's hopes spring Eternal in Chairman's Trophy bid
Buoyed by the John Size-trained gelding's fast-finishing fourth last start, Atzeni has high hopes for Beauty Eternal in the Group Two Chairman's Trophy (1,600m).
The Italian jockey rode Beauty Eternal for the first time under race conditions in last month's Group One Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup (1,400m), in which the son of Starspangledbanner jumped only fairly but ran on well late to be beaten two lengths by superstar Ka Ying Rising.
He steps back up to his preferred distance, at which he won the Group One Champions Mile in April last year under champion jockey Zac Purton.

'I thought his last run was good,' Atzeni said. 'He was a bit sluggish early but he finished off quite nicely.
'Up in distance again will really suit him and with a good draw and a clean break, hopefully we're in a good position.
'It's a very open race. Obviously Galaxy Patch has trialled very well and might be the horse to beat, but we've got a nice draw. He's moving well and pulled up good from the other day.'
Jumping from barrier four, Beauty Eternal is one of three Size-trained gallopers set for the Chairman's Trophy.
Group Three winner Ensued drops in trip after a last-start second to Voyage Bubble in the Group One Gold Cup (2,000m), while the consistent Red Lion bids for the biggest win of his career.
In Sunday's other Group Two, the Sprint Cup (1,200m), Atzeni conceded Gorgeous Win faces a mammoth task against Ka Ying Rising.
The Danny Shum Chap-shing-trained Gorgeous Win is the lowest-rated of the seven Sprint Cup runners on a mark of 97.
'It's a small field and we all know Ka Ying Rising's going to be tough to beat, but we're all trying to play for some prize money,' Atzeni said.
'There looks to be quite a bit of pace in the race, so hopefully we can give him a chance.'
Third in the jockeys' premiership with 35 wins this term, Atzeni hopes to continue his momentum after celebrating his 34th birthday in style with a double at Sha Tin on Wednesday night.
'I came back from the two-day suspension and had winners most meetings and a few doubles. Hopefully I can stay out of the stewards' room and keep the ball rolling,' Atzeni said.
Gale Saga, Stellar Express, Robot Knight, South Star and Across Da Universe are Atzeni's other rides on Sunday.

Alcaraz beats Medjedovic for 50th victory of year
Alcaraz beats Medjedovic for 50th victory of year Carlos Alcaraz will face Italy's Luca Nardi in a last-16 match at Cincinnati. Photo: Reuters Carlos Alcaraz beat the heat and humidity of an American Midwest summer as the world number two advanced to the fourth round of the ATP and WTA Cincinnati Open. The Spanish second seed kept his exposure to a minimum in 32 degrees Celsius conditions, taking an efficient 95 minutes to dispatch Serb Hamad Medjedovic 6-4, 6-4, for his 50th match win of the year. "Medjedovic doesn't like to run that much, so I tried to move him around as much as possible," he said. "But it was difficult with the ball flying so much and his shots coming so fast. I tried to defend in a good way." Alcaraz has been on a tear in 2025 as he chases Jannik Sinner in the ATP rankings, and now owns 13 straight victories at the Masters 1000 level. He will play for the quarter-finals against Luca Nardi after the Italian defeated Jakob Mensik 6-2, 2-1 with the Czech retiring after 42 minutes. Five-time Grand Slam winner Alcaraz, who is preparing for the approaching US Open start, added: "I was really happy to get the win in a very difficult match. "The season is very long and in at least half of your matches you don't feel that good [physically]," he said. "But you have to stay positive and play your best tennis on the day. I'm proud about that. It's a goal of the season." Francisco Comesano and Reilly Opelka both felt the heat of their mid-day match, which was interrupted for 45 minutes by rain, as the Argentine limped to a 6-7 (4/7), 6-4, 7-5 win while saving three match points. Comesano needed a medical time out midway through the second set, but came back out to continue what turned into a fight of nearly three hours against the American. Opelka called for the doctor just moments from his eventual loss, complaining of dizziness and high blood pressure after being broken for 5-6 in the final set. After a quick consultation at his chair, Opelka was back on court to weakly scoop a return into the net on his opponent's second match point. The 71st-ranked South American will face ninth seed Andrey Rublev, who beat Australian Alexei Popyrin 6-7 (5/7), 7-6 (7/5), 7-5. Opelka, noted for his big serve, fired 27 aces but also committed nearly 60 unforced errors. Comesano broke on four of his 13 chances. He is the first Argentine into the Cincy round of 16 since Diego Schwartzman in 2022. In the WTA draw, second seed Coco Gauff eased into the fourth round when opponent Dayana Yastremska withdrew due to an illness before their Tuesday match. The American, who won the 2023 Cincinnati title and followed up with a US Open crown, will await an opponent from former Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko and Italian Lucia Bronzetti. Seventh seed Jasmine Paolini, last season's Roland Garros and Wimbledon finalist, defeated American Ashlyn Krueger 7-6, (7/2), 6-1 while German qualifier Ella Seidel continued her strong showing with a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (8/6) defeat of McCartney Kessler. Two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova outlasted American Iva Jovic 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. (AFP)

Italian orienteering athlete dies at World Games
Italian orienteering athlete dies at World Games Mattia Debertolis was discovered unconscious during the men's middle-distance competition. Photo courtesy of the International Orienteering Federation Italian orienteering athlete Mattia Debertolis died after being found unresponsive during competition at the World Games in Chengdu, organisers said. The 29-year-old was discovered unconscious during an orienteering event on August 8 and died four days later, said a joint statement from World Games organisers and the International Orienteering Federation (IOF). The World Games is a multi-sport event held every four years for disciplines not included in the Olympics. "Despite receiving immediate expert medical care at one of China's leading medical institutions, he passed away," the statement said. It did not provide details on the cause of death. Debertolis, from Primiero in eastern Italy, was taking part in the final of the men's middle-distance, the first medal event of the Games. Footage from the World Games' social media accounts showed athletes running through crop fields and villages on a largely rural course. The winner, Switzerland's Riccardo Rancan, completed the course in 45 minutes and 22 seconds. Debertolis was listed as "Did Not Finish" in official results, along with 11 other athletes. (AFP)
