Cierra Ortega's family speaks out after Love Island USA Season 7 exit over racist posts, urges 'basic human decency' amid threats
Why was Cierra Ortega removed from Love Island USA Season 7?
Cierra Ortega's sudden exit from Love Island USA wasn't just a production twist. It followed a storm of backlash after her old social media posts came to light. Viewers uncovered a 2023 Instagram Story in which Cierra described her face looking 'a little chi*ky' when she laughed, saying it was the reason she got Botox. It didn't end there. A second post from 2015 resurfaced where she used the same slur again. Not only that, but when someone pointed out that it was a derogatory term, she even tried to justify it by saying it was a real word in the dictionary.
For the unversed, the term 'chi*ky' is a well-known racial slur against East Asian communities, and many fans were shocked to see it used so casually, not just once, but repeatedly.

As these posts began circulating on Reddit, X (formerly Twitter), and TikTok, outrage quickly grew, and many demanded her exit from the show. After a weeklong backlash, she was finally asked to leave the villa on Sunday's (July 6) episode.
Cierra's family issues emotional statement
Shortly after her removal from Love Island USA Season 7, Cierra's family took to her Instagram Stories to share what they described as 'one of the most painful weeks' of their lives. They acknowledged they've seen the posts, the headlines, and the hurt, even though Cierra hasn't.
They didn't try to deny the situation or make excuses, stating clearly that they 'understand why people are upset' and that they 'know accountability matters.' But they also made it clear that what's happening online has gone far beyond that.
They condemned the level of hate directed at Cierra and those around her. 'The threats. The cruel messages. The attacks on her family, her friends, even her supporters—it's heartbreaking,' they wrote, adding that it was 'uncalled for' and that no one deserves that kind of hate, 'no matter what mistake they've made.'
At the time of the post, Cierra was still away and had not yet had the chance to process the situation or speak for herself. Her family said they know her heart, and when she does return, they believe she'll face it all 'with honesty, growth, and grace.'
They described the balance between seeing her as their 'little girl' and recognising that she is also a grown woman, one who will eventually take responsibility 'in her own time and in her own voice.'
Until then, they asked for compassion and patience. 'For basic human decency. Not just for her, but for everyone caught in the middle of this.' The statement ended with a thank you to those who have continued to show love and support, 'even when it's not easy.'
Not the first contestant to exit over racism
Cierra's removal marks the second time this season a contestant has been taken off due to racist behaviour. Earlier in the season, Yulissa—another islander—faced similar scrutiny and was also removed after fans discovered racially insensitive content linked to her social media.
Cierra has lost over 250,000 followers since the controversy.
Since the racism allegations came to light, Cierra Ortega has lost over 250,000 followers on Instagram. Many brands she was previously associated with have either paused their promotions or scrubbed collaborations from their pages. Her account handler also stepped down following the backlash.
For fans who had initially rooted for Cierra, her exit was a disappointing turn. But for others, it felt like long-overdue accountability finally catching up.
Meanwhile, Love Island USA Season 7 is now in its finale week. Alongside Cierra, Zak Srakaew, who joined as a Casa Amor bombshell, was also dumped from the villa after receiving the fewest public votes.
The remaining islanders vying for a spot in the final include Ace, Chelley, Amaya, Nic, Chris, Huda, Clarke, and Taylor.

Kate Middleton gets a wink from Macron, video goes viral amid French President's marriage drama
Kate Middleton looked stunning at the state banquet held at Windsor Castle. However, it was her unexpected interaction with French President Emmanuel Macron that has now caught everyone's attention. The two were seen clinking glasses, sitting next to each other. Macron even helped her by pulling out her chair and waiting for her to be seated first. It is the Princess of Wales receiving a playful wink from the French President that has become the talk of the event. The star-studded dinner was hosted on 8 July, in honour of the first official French state visit in 17 years. Macron was seated between Princess Kate and King Charles. Later, in a blink-and-miss moment on camera, Macron was spotted winking at Kate Middleton during a toast. The video has now gone viral on TikTok. Meanwhile, Macron's wife, Brigitte Macron, was seated between Prince William and Queen Camilla, all of them facing their spouse. The friendly exchange between Princess Kate and President Macron began right when he and his wife landed at RAF Northolt on Tuesday. The Prince and Princess of Wales welcomed them on the tarmac. This is when Macron greeted Kate with a kiss on her hand. As Kate and William waited for Macron and his wife, the President first stepped off their jet. He offered his hand to his wife to help her down the stairs, but she declined, escalating rumours of their rocky marriage. Macron then warmly greeted Prince William with a handshake and held his arm while they spoke. He then took Kate's hand and gave it an air kiss. This moment comes just weeks after a tense incident during an official tour in Vietnam, where Macron's wife Brigitte was seen appearing to slap him during a disagreement. The incident was partially caught on camera. While his gesture surprised many, however, it wasn't against royal rules. According to the royal family's website, there are no strict rules for how to greet a royal. "There are no obligatory codes of behaviour when meeting The Queen or a member of the Royal Family, but many people wish to observe the traditional forms. For men, this is a neck bow (from the head only) whilst women do a small curtsy. Other people prefer simply to shake hands in the usual way," read the website.

Ethel Cain issues public apology for 8-year-old racist posts, calls them ‘shameful' ahead of new album launch
American singer-songwriter Ethel Cain has issued a public apology after old social media posts containing racist and offensive content resurfaced online. The posts, made when she was 19, included the use of racial slurs, offensive jokes about rape and body image, and controversial images. The posts began circulating on Reddit and X, just weeks ahead of the release of her second album, Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You, slated for August. Cain, whose real name is Hayden Anhedönia, shared a lengthy statement on Instagram on July 9, acknowledging her past remarks and expressing remorse. 'I was 19 and I was entirely aware of what I was saying and that was why I said it,' Cain wrote. 'All I can say is that I am truly sorry from the bottom of my heart.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play War Thunder now for free War Thunder Play Now Undo Cain admitted the accounts and posts in question were hers. She described her younger self as deliberately provocative, seeking attention through inflammatory language. In the statement, she said she no longer stands by those views and now looks back on that time "shamefully." She rejected excuses for her behavior, saying: 'At the end of the day, I am white… I can take accountability for my actions, but there's no way for me to fully understand the way it feels to be on the receiving end of them.' Live Events Cain said that she intends to use her platform for progress and atonement through her actions going forward. Claims of Harassment and Hacking While apologizing, Cain also pushed back against the manner in which the posts were unearthed. She alleged that the resurfacing was part of a deliberate 'smear campaign' involving hacking, harassment, and doxxing. 'These are screenshots obtained through extensive digging, hacking, and cooperative effort amongst a group of individuals,' she wrote. 'This information was hoarded until the perfect moment arose to unleash it.' She claimed personal accounts were compromised, her family was targeted, and private childhood photos were circulated. Her team is reportedly pursuing legal action. Responds to Specific Allegations Cain also addressed more serious claims, including accusations related to artwork some deemed inappropriate and a photo that critics alleged suggested animal abuse. She denied all such accusations, explaining them in context: She said a homemade shirt with 'Legalize Incest' was a provocative joke during a time she sought shock value online. Cain explained that a character in her art, allegedly depicted in sexualized ways, represented her trauma after a sexual assault. The character was of legal age, mirroring Cain's own. Describing the image as a moment at a party, she called the allegation 'absurd.' She admitted to mistakenly using a poster linked to a real child's case as part of an album promo. She apologized, calling it careless but unintentional. Pushes Back Against 'Fetishization' Claims Cain also responded to accusations that her work 'fetishizes' the female experience and trauma. As a transgender woman, she defended her right to explore themes of abuse and fear in her art. 'Preacher's Daughter is a deeply personal story to me, born from my traumas and deepest fears,' she said. 'If it reads as a fetish to you, then that is your problem and not mine.' Ethel Cain rose to fame with her 2022 debut Preacher's Daughter, which was widely praised for its raw storytelling and haunting sound. As one of the most prominent transgender artists in pop and alternative music today, Cain's public reckoning comes at a sensitive moment amid political polarization and increased scrutiny of public figures' digital histories.
