Cierra Ortega's family speaks out after Love Island USA Season 7 exit over racist posts, urges 'basic human decency' amid threats
Why was Cierra Ortega removed from Love Island USA Season 7?
Cierra Ortega's sudden exit from Love Island USA wasn't just a production twist. It followed a storm of backlash after her old social media posts came to light. Viewers uncovered a 2023 Instagram Story in which Cierra described her face looking 'a little chi*ky' when she laughed, saying it was the reason she got Botox. It didn't end there. A second post from 2015 resurfaced where she used the same slur again. Not only that, but when someone pointed out that it was a derogatory term, she even tried to justify it by saying it was a real word in the dictionary.
For the unversed, the term 'chi*ky' is a well-known racial slur against East Asian communities, and many fans were shocked to see it used so casually, not just once, but repeatedly.

As these posts began circulating on Reddit, X (formerly Twitter), and TikTok, outrage quickly grew, and many demanded her exit from the show. After a weeklong backlash, she was finally asked to leave the villa on Sunday's (July 6) episode.
Cierra's family issues emotional statement
Shortly after her removal from Love Island USA Season 7, Cierra's family took to her Instagram Stories to share what they described as 'one of the most painful weeks' of their lives. They acknowledged they've seen the posts, the headlines, and the hurt, even though Cierra hasn't.
They didn't try to deny the situation or make excuses, stating clearly that they 'understand why people are upset' and that they 'know accountability matters.' But they also made it clear that what's happening online has gone far beyond that.
They condemned the level of hate directed at Cierra and those around her. 'The threats. The cruel messages. The attacks on her family, her friends, even her supporters—it's heartbreaking,' they wrote, adding that it was 'uncalled for' and that no one deserves that kind of hate, 'no matter what mistake they've made.'
At the time of the post, Cierra was still away and had not yet had the chance to process the situation or speak for herself. Her family said they know her heart, and when she does return, they believe she'll face it all 'with honesty, growth, and grace.'
They described the balance between seeing her as their 'little girl' and recognising that she is also a grown woman, one who will eventually take responsibility 'in her own time and in her own voice.'
Until then, they asked for compassion and patience. 'For basic human decency. Not just for her, but for everyone caught in the middle of this.' The statement ended with a thank you to those who have continued to show love and support, 'even when it's not easy.'
Not the first contestant to exit over racism
Cierra's removal marks the second time this season a contestant has been taken off due to racist behaviour. Earlier in the season, Yulissa—another islander—faced similar scrutiny and was also removed after fans discovered racially insensitive content linked to her social media.
Cierra has lost over 250,000 followers since the controversy.
Since the racism allegations came to light, Cierra Ortega has lost over 250,000 followers on Instagram. Many brands she was previously associated with have either paused their promotions or scrubbed collaborations from their pages. Her account handler also stepped down following the backlash.
For fans who had initially rooted for Cierra, her exit was a disappointing turn. But for others, it felt like long-overdue accountability finally catching up.
Meanwhile, Love Island USA Season 7 is now in its finale week. Alongside Cierra, Zak Srakaew, who joined as a Casa Amor bombshell, was also dumped from the villa after receiving the fewest public votes.
The remaining islanders vying for a spot in the final include Ace, Chelley, Amaya, Nic, Chris, Huda, Clarke, and Taylor.

Did Cierra target Huda fans just hours before Love Island USA Season 7 finale? Former Islander's new comment sparks fresh backlash
We are just hours away from the finale of Love Island USA Season 7, and while fans are eagerly awaiting the inside drama to unfold, social media is currently abuzz for a different reason altogether. Cierra Ortega, whose removal from the show just ahead of the finale over racism allegations sent shockwaves through the fans of the reality TV series, has once again found herself facing the heat on the internet. This time around, for allegedly dissing Huda Mustafa's fans. Why is Cierra Ortega facing backlash again? Days after extending a detailed apology over her racism controversy, the former islander has once again become the centre of a heated debate after she called Huda fans #Hudarats in an Instagram comment. Just hours ago, Cierra shared a carousel post on Instagram, reflecting on her time in the villa. The post featured snapshots of her enjoying herself with fellow islanders, offering a glimpse into the fun moments she experienced despite how things ended. She captioned the post, "People, moments, and memories I'll cherish forever. This journey didn't end the way I hoped, but there was real connection, love, and growth in these moments. There's still so much more growing to do. And for that, I'll always be grateful." One particular picture showed her with the girls—Olandria, Hannah, Chelley, Idris, Amaya, and Huda—and while she tagged everyone in the photo, she notably didn't tag Huda. However, she proceeded to share an explanation in the comments section, writing, "Before the #hudrats come for me for not tagging my girl, her IG isn't allowing tags!! Please know Huda is my sister, and the love I have for her is infinite." She further added, "And for the #Nicolandria nation, they are the two people I care deeply for and absolutely adore. I have always wanted nothing but happiness for each of them in this experience. That has never and will never change." So why exactly is the fresh backlash building against Cierra? Well, in case you missed it, the term 'rats' is typically used in a negative context for fans, often implying they're toxic or hateful. So when Cierra referred to Huda's fans as #Hudarats, many took it as a direct insult. The comment didn't sit well with a lot of viewers, who are now once again calling out Ortega online and urging Huda to distance herself from her. Cierra says she didn't know the meaning Cierra has now edited her comment from #hudrats to Huda HQ and responded to the backlash, claiming she wasn't aware of the negative meaning behind the term. According to her, she genuinely thought this was Huda's fandom name. Notably, her use of the term 'rats' to describe Huda's fans sparked even more backlash because many of Huda's supporters are Palestinian. Given the sensitive context surrounding the region, her comment was seen by some as especially inappropriate. Despite her explanation, many labelled her racist and accused her of being dismissive of the broader implications. Cierra saying that she thinks hudrats is huda's fan name is has any good tweet or good sentence come out from that name being is a racist #LoveIslandUSA Cierra is a racist...I hope huda stays far away from people like dumb person will hear rats at the end of someone's name, especially a Palestine woman and think, its a good thing... Internet advises Cierra to put her phone down until the finale While Cierra's comment may have been unintentional, she's once again facing the wrath of the internet, especially from Huda's supporters. Amid the growing backlash, many fans have urged her to log off until the finale, with some even suggesting she hire a social media manager who's more in tune with internet language and sensitive contexts. Love Island USA Season 7 wraps up with its grand finale on Sunday, July 13 at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET, streaming exclusively on Peacock.

As Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant marked their first wedding anniversary, a video from their grand pre-wedding celebrations in Jamnagar resurfaced online — and it's going viral on Reddit for all the right reasons. The clip captured a playful, almost face-off-style dance moment between none other than Shah Rukh Khan and Rihanna. The two global icons were seen matching each other step for step on the dance floor — SRK began with one of his signature moves, and Rihanna immediately mirrored it. Then Rihanna took the lead, breaking into her own routine, which SRK followed. The atmosphere was electric, with the crowd clearly divided into two hyped-up camps — Team SRK and Team Rihanna — cheering them on with infectious energy. One can see SRK's daughter Suhana Khan, Amitabh Bachchan's granddaughter Navya Nanda and Shanaya Kapoor in the backdrop.
