Patrick Mahomes
recently finished one of the most tricekts seasons of his life, at least by his own impossibly lofty standards. And still, when the dust finally settled and the
NFL
's most-respected voices rendered their verdict, he's still the best.
The No. 1 standard.
In a league packed with rising stars, Mahomes's grip on the top spot might feel like a contradiction. He had fewer touchdowns, more interceptions, and was sacked more than ever before. But if we've learned anything from the past few seasons, it's that when it matters most, Mahomes wins. And that's why, despite a less-than-spectacular statistical year, the 29-year-old remains the NFL's most trusted and feared quarterback.
How Patrick Mahomes' ranking was determined
The rankings are derived from ESPN's offseason quarterback survey.
— SleeperTBBUCS (@SleeperTBBUCS)
It is the most highly regarded analysis in the NFL offseason. It's a survey of more than 70 league insiders, such as head coaches, general managers, coordinators, and scouts, that gets asked to rank the top 10 quarterbacks going into the next season.
These are the same individuals responsible for constructing game plans and handling rosters, so their opinions have some weight.

The top 10 list is an exclusive club, and this season, it demonstrated both a changing of the guard and the unshakeable faith in Mahomes's otherworldly skills.
Mahomes' 2024 numbers may not be eye-popping on first glance. He passed for 3,928 yards, the smallest in any complete season of his career. He completed 26 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, and was sacked a career-high 36 times. His 245.5 per-game average was not news-breaking, and there were more than a few dicey games during the regular season.
But none of it mattered once the playoffs rolled around.
The Kansas City Chiefs marched to their third straight Super Bowl in three years and fifth in seven, showing that Mahomes' greatness isn't measured by box scores, but by victories when they count. Approximately 60 percent of ESPN's survey voters awarded Mahomes the No. 1 vote.
Mahomes might be standing alone at the top, but he is not under any pressure. The three quarterbacks ranked immediately below him in 2025 are all elite-calibre players and ready to threaten him.
The chase pack is closing in with more athletes
Buffalo Bills' Josh Allen captured the No. 2 ranking with a season full of big-play production and clutch play under duress. He accumulated more than 4,300 total yards and 40 scores, all while supporting a team that could not find other consistent playmakers to go along with him.
Cincinnati's
Joe Burrow
, ranked third, spent much of 2024 battling injuries, but his reputation remains solid. League insiders still trust his elite accuracy, decision-making, and poise.
One fact looms large: he's the only quarterback to have beaten Mahomes in a postseason game, back in the 2021 AFC title game.
Baltimore Ravens two-time MVP
Lamar Jackson
completes the top four. Jackson quieted critics in 2024 with enhanced passing, explosive rushing, and a deep playoff run. His ongoing development as a passer makes him one of the most feared dual-threat quarterbacks in the league.
Easily the most revealing narrative in the rankings this year is who isn't on the list.
For the first time, Aaron Rodgers is not among the top 10. The 41-year-old future Hall of Famer is on the outside looking in. It was surely a development that represents a dramatic generational shift in the position.
Actually, Matthew Stafford is the lone quarterback in the top 10 over 30. That opens the door incredibly wide for up-and-comers like C.J. Stroud, Jordan Love, and Brock Purdy, each of whom broke the list and is quickly becoming a franchise pillar.
This isn't Mahomes's league anymore. The next generation is arriving quickly, and they're not just pursuing stats. They're pursuing rings. Until someone brings him down, Mahomes sets the standard.

Animesh finishes second in 100m heats at Swiss meet

Animesh Kujur continued his brilliant run in the ongoing season by coming second in Heat C of 100m during the Spitzen Leichtathletik Luzern at Stadion Allmend in Lucerne, Switzerland, on Tuesday night. Coming into the race fresh from competing at the Monaco Diamond League last week, Kujur ran 10.28 seconds — his third-best personal time. While Sachin Dennis of Jamaica came first with a timing of 10.21 seconds, four more Indian athletes also took part in the race and pushed each other to the limit. Gurindervir Singh, who has a PB of 10.20 seconds and briefly held the 100m NR, came fourth with a timing of 10.54 seconds. Manikanta Hoblidhar, also a former 100m NR holder, followed suit with a time of 10.61 seconds. Odisha's DM Jayram and Lalu Prasad Bhoi were the next to cross the line. Jayram ran a PB of 10.65 seconds while Lalu crossed the line just 0.02 seconds later. However, Animesh was the most impressive of the Indian runners as he looks make good use of competing with the faster runners in the European circuit. While he is hoping to qualify for the World Championships in 200m, he is also aiming to break the 10-second mark in 100m. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cách giao dịch ETH/USD mà không cần nắm giữ Ether IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo He currently holds the 100m NR with a time of 10.18 seconds that he achieved during the Dromia International Sprint and Relays Meeting at Konstantinos Baglatzis Municipal Stadium in Vari, Greece, earlier this month. His coach Owen Martins, who trains him at Odisha Reliance Foundation Athletics High-Performance Centre (HPC) in Bhubaneswar, however is well aware that it's going to take some time. "It's a slow process. It's still 2 metres and it's a long way off. Athens wasn't a fast track. So there's a few tenths of a second there. Also, in an earlier race, the wind was 1.7 m/s as opposed to 0. 5 m/s when he ran. So you can get down to 10.12 seconds just by changing the wind. But it's a gradual process and again, that's not really what we're trying to aim for," said Martins.

Tennis player challenges exclusion of game from Hindu College sports quota admissions

New Delhi: A junior national-level tennis player has moved the Delhi High Court questioning the alleged omission of tennis from the list of games available to seek admission under the sports quota at Hindu College of Delhi University. Justice Vikas Mahajan on Monday sought the stand of the college and DU on the plea filed by Aditi Rawat, challenging the absence of lawn tennis in the sports offered by the college for admission under the sports quota for the upcoming academic year. The plea stated that Rawat is "a distinguished Lawn Tennis athlete and gold medallist at the CBSE Nationals" and challenges "the arbitrary denial of admission" under the Sports Quota (Lawn Tennis) at Hindu College. It contends that the college authorities violated DU's Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) Policy 2025-26, which provides for a mandatory 5% supernumerary sports quota in each college. Highlighting that the student-athlete has outstanding qualifications at various levels, such as national-level sports achievements, and also satisfies all eligibility conditions for admission under the sports quota, the petition seeks direction to the college to reserve one seat for her until the court decides the matter. As per the plea, Rawat applied for admission in DU under the sports quota with Hindu College as her first preference. "To the utter surprise and grave prejudice of the petitioner, it was revealed that Hindu College has not allotted even a single seat under the discipline of Lawn Tennis, neither for men nor for women candidates. This is despite the fact that Lawn Tennis is among the recognised and approved sporting disciplines under the Sports Quota admissions, and several other colleges under DU have allotted such seats. The omission is both unjustified and discriminatory, creating a hostile environment for Lawn Tennis aspirants, such as the petitioner," the petition says.
