New Dubai flyover to separate train and vehicle traffic, says RTA
'The construction of the flyover is part of RTA's commitment to ensuring the smooth movement of trains on the UAE's national railway network, allowing them to travel within the median strip of Al Yalayis Street,' the Dubai Media Office said in a statement.
Etihad Rail officials confirmed their 'ongoing commitment to collaborating with the relevant authorities in the UAE to ensure that operations align with the highest global standards.'
'The goal is to provide efficient transport services for both goods and passengers in key areas, ensuring connectivity and the safe, effective delivery of railway services,' the statement continued.
The new flyover connects vital routes that enhance mobility to and from Dubai, supporting Etihad Rail's efforts to 'strengthen social bonds, improve the movement of goods, and support economic growth across the country.'
Future plans include extending the flyover towards Jumeirah Golf Estates, with construction of a two-lane road in each direction to further enhance network connectivity and ensure smooth traffic flow in the area.

Emsteel's H1 revenue surges to Dh4.3b amid market headwinds
Emsteel, the Abu Dhabi-based industrial heavyweight and one of the region's largest steel and building materials manufacturers, reported strong financial results for the first half of 2025, underscoring its resilience and operational strength despite global pricing challenges in the steel sector. The company posted a revenue of Dh4.3 billion for H1 2025, a 9 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) rose by 6 per cent year-on-year to Dh540 million, supported by strong demand, higher sales volumes, and strategic product shifts. The group's solid performance was powered by a 24 per cent year-on-year increase in sales volumes of finished steel products, which reached 1.616 million tonnes. This growth reflects a continuing uptrend in domestic construction activity and infrastructure development, particularly in the UAE, where major giga-projects, including the Etihad Rail, the Al Hudayriat Island masterplan, and the Zayed City infrastructure programme, have driven demand for structural steel. Cement and clinker sales also rose 21 per cent to 1.613 million tonnes, contributing to the revenue mix. This diversification was instrumental in counterbalancing the 4 per cent decline in average steel prices globally. The company's decision to pivot away from semi-finished product sales—once constituting 9 per cent of the steel division's revenue—enabled full utilisation of capacity for high-margin finished goods. The Emirates Steel division generated Dh3.9 billion in revenue, a 7 per cent increase from H1 2024, with Ebitda at Dh449 million. Meanwhile, the Emirates Cement division delivered Dh428 million in revenue, a 21 per cent year-on-year increase, and posted Dh91 million in Ebitda. A segment of this division, Pipes and Other Products, is currently under divestment and contributed Dh90 million to revenue during the period. Net profit after tax for the half-year stood at Dh188 million, up from Dh174 million a year ago. Margin pressures from softer pricing were mitigated by improved production efficiency, enhanced utilisation rates, and ongoing optimisation strategies, especially in the second quarter. Ebitda margins remained relatively stable at 12.6 per cent compared to 12.8 per cent in H1 2024. Second-quarter performance further underscored Emsteel's momentum. Revenue surged 18 per cent and Ebitda climbed 27 per cent year-on-year, partly due to a low base effect from Q2 2024, when operations were affected by severe weather conditions. The company also closed the period with a healthy net cash position of Dh372 million, up from Dh337 million as of December 2024, providing it with solid liquidity to support growth and sustainability initiatives. Beyond financial metrics, Emsteel has made notable strategic and environmental advances. In Q2 2025, the company received a provisional 'AA' ESG rating from MSCI, placing it among the leading industrial firms in environmental and social governance performance. The rating reflects Emsteel's industry-leading practices in emissions reduction, workforce safety, and sustainable production. A key highlight was Emsteel's partnership with Finland-based Magsort to advance its decarbonised cement portfolio. A pilot project at the company's Al Ain plant used 10,000 tonnes of steel slag-derived materials to produce lower-carbon cement. This initiative aligns with Emsteel's broader goal of achieving net-zero emissions across its steel and cement value chains by 2050, and reinforces the group's circular economy strategy. To support these ambitions, Emsteel also introduced its Green Finance Framework, enabling the issuance of green bonds and loans to fund low-carbon projects. The framework aligns with international sustainability standards and opens new avenues for climate-conscious capital inflows. 'Our strong H1 2025 performance underscores the resilience and adaptability of Emsteel in an evolving global market,' said Eng. Saeed Ghumran Al Remeithi, group CEO of Emsteel. 'The 9 per cent growth in revenue and continued Ebitda strength reflect our strategic focus on value-added products, operational efficiency, and domestic market leadership. We are proud of our team's ability to convert industry headwinds into opportunities for growth and innovation.' ' The launch of our Green Finance Framework and the partnership with Magsort are milestones in building a more sustainable, circular steel and cement ecosystem. With a solid financial foundation, strong ESG credentials, and a clear long-term vision, Emsteel remains well-positioned to deliver sustainable value to all stakeholders,' Al Remeithi said. Emsteel, majority-owned by ADQ, a key sovereign investor in the UAE, operates 16 advanced production facilities with a capacity of 3.5 million tonnes of steel and 4.6 million tonnes of cement annually. Its products support many of the nation's most iconic infrastructure and urban development projects.

395 million used public transport in 6 months
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that public transport modes — including Dubai Metro, Dubai Tram, public buses, and marine transport — along with taxis and shared mobility options such as app-based vehicles, hourly rentals, and on-demand buses, served approximately 395.3 million riders in the first half of 2025. This represents a 9% increase compared to around 361.2 million riders during the same period in 2024. Average daily ridership reached nearly 2.18 million, up from approximately 1.98 million in the first half of 2024. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), said: 'The continued growth in public transport ridership reflects users' confidence in the system's efficiency and the quality of services provided across all modes. We remain committed to delivering safe, comfortable, and sustainable mobility solutions for every segment of society.' He added: 'Dubai's public transport network has undergone a major transformation, driven by advanced infrastructure and a diverse range of transit options that now form the backbone of mobility for residents and visitors across the emirate. As a result, the share of journeys using public transport and shared mobility has increased from 6% in 2006 to 21.6% in 2024.' 'We are moving forward with a clear vision to make public transport the preferred choice for daily commuting by smartly expanding transport lines and networks, strengthening connectivity between stations and key destinations, and offering flexible, inclusive mobility solutions,' Al Tayer revealed. 'The Construction of Dubai Metro Blue Line is currently underway. Spanning 30 kilometres and comprising 14 stations, the line will serve nine key districts with a combined estimated population of one million residents, in alignment with the Dubai 2040 Urban Plan.' Al Tayer continued: 'Earlier, RTA signed four agreements to procure 637 multi-sized buses compliant with the European low-emission standard 'Euro 6,' including 40 electric buses — the largest and first fleet of its kind in the UAE. The buses will be delivered in 2025 and 2026 and will support the geographic expansion of the public bus network across the emirate. They also align with our strategic objective to convert the entire public bus fleet to electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles by 2050. This month, we completed the development of 16 bus passenger stations and six depots, as part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of services provided to all users.' Al Tayer explained that Dubai Metro and taxis recorded the highest share of ridership in the first half of this year, with the Metro accounting for 36.5% and taxis for 26%. Public buses made up 24% of the total. He noted that May registered the highest monthly ridership, reaching 68.8 million, while figures for the other months ranged between 61 and 68 million. 'There was a 9% increase in ridership during the first half of this year compared to the same period in 2024, a key indicator of the recovery in economic activity across the emirate of Dubai, as well as the effectiveness of the RTA's strategies and initiatives to encourage both residents and visitors to use public transport and to offer diverse mobility options throughout the city,' he said. 'Dubai's public transport network, with all components operating in full integration, serves as the backbone of mobility across the emirate. It has succeeded in fostering a positive shift in public attitudes toward mass transit across all segments of society,' he added. The number of Dubai Metro users across both the Red and Green Lines reached approximately 143.9 million riders during the first half of 2025. BurJuman and Al Rigga stations recorded the highest ridership volumes, with BurJuman Station (serving both the Red and Green Lines) registering 8.6 million riders, followed by Al Rigga Station with 6.8 million.
