Nandyal: District Collector G Rajakumari has directed Kendriya Vidyalaya authorities to initiate necessary measures for starting a new Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) in Dhone town from the current academic year. On Saturday, the Collector inspected the government ITI College premises in Dhone, which has been identified for temporary accommodation until a permanent campus is constructed.
Following the approval for setting up the Kendriya Vidyalaya in Dhone, the Collector instructed the KV Principal to ensure arrangements are made to commence classes from this academic session. Since the permanent school building is still under construction, the government ITI College buildings will temporarily host the school. During her inspection, the Collector reviewed the availability of essential infrastructure such as classrooms, toilets, drinking water, and other facilities, and advised concerned officials to make the necessary provisions promptly.
Additionally, the Collector inspected a 9.5-acre land parcel identified for the permanent Kendriya Vidyalaya campus on the outskirts of Dhone town. She instructed Transco officials to initiate the removal of electric poles and service wires from the site to facilitate construction.
Infrastructure Development in Dorapalli Gutta Housing Colony
Later, the Collector visited Dorapalli Gutta, a suburban area of Dhone, where a housing colony is under development. Of the 1,554 sanctioned houses, 766 have already been completed and handed over to beneficiaries, according to a briefing by the Housing AE (Assistant Engineer). The Collector was informed that due to the colony's location on a hillock, there have been difficulties in ensuring drinking water supply and road connectivity.
To address these challenges, the Collector instructed the Municipal Commissioner to lay pipelines under the Water Grid scheme to ensure a permanent water supply. She also emphasized the need to improve road connectivity, electricity, and other essential infrastructure, encouraging remaining beneficiaries to come forward and complete the construction of their homes. The Collector directed Housing Department engineers to expedite these works and ensure all basic amenities are provided at the earliest.
The Collector was accompanied by Dhone RDO Narasimhulu, Municipal Commissioner Prasad Goud, Tahsildar Nagamani, District Educational Officer Janardhan Reddy, Deputy DEO Sudhakar Reddy, Housing DE Krishna Reddy, and other officials during the inspection.

Move to increase forest cover from 36 to 50% in Prakasam

Ongole: Prakasam district collector A Thameem Ansariya has called upon everyone to focus on increasing greenery to protect the environment during a special awareness programme held at Mini Stadium here on Thursday as part of the 'Vana Mahotsavam' celebration for World Environment Day. The collector, along with the Andhra Pradesh Tourism and Development Corporation chairman Dr Nukasani Balaji and mayor Gangada Sujatha, planted saplings at the Mini Stadium and Kendriya Vidyalaya. Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, the collector explained that this year's World Environment Day celebrations focus on eliminating the use of polluting plastic materials to preserve the environment. She announced that the state government has initiated measures to plant one crore trees across the state in a single day, with Prakasam district preparing an action plan to plant 4.10 lakh trees in one day as part of this massive drive. She revealed ambitious targets for the district, stating that they aim to plant over 35 lakh trees during the current year. This initiative is designed to increase the district's current forest coverage from 36 per cent to 50 per cent within the year through systematic action plans, she informed. Balaji highlighted that human survival depends entirely on environmental protection, drawing historical parallels by noting that Emperor Asoka had recognised this principle centuries ago when he ordered tree plantations on both sides of roads. Sujatha spoke about the special focus being given to increasing greenery within the Ongole Corporation limits and urged everyone to understand the necessity of environmental protection. She called upon citizens to recognise their responsibility in safeguarding the environment. During the programme, the Collector and other dignitaries administered a pledge to participants, committing them to take personal responsibility for environmental conservation. Following the ceremony, saplings were distributed to all attendees to encourage continued participation in the green initiative. The event was attended by several key officials, including DFO (Social Forest) Rajasekhar, Municipal Commissioner Venkateswara Rao, STEP CEO Srimannarayana, and other public representatives and government officials.

CBSE, ICSE boards gain ground over state syllabus schools in DK

Mangaluru: Educational institutions in the coastal belt of Karnataka are increasingly switching from state board to CBSE or ICSE affiliations, with many parents believing that central board syllabi offer better prospects for their children, even though fees at these schools are higher than at those run by the state boards. English communication skills, analytical abilities, and comprehensive subject coverage are believed to be the reasons influencing the choice. In keeping with the trend, some schools have started offering CBSE/ICSE curriculum on their campuses while retaining their state board programmes. While a CBSE school typically allows only 40 students per class, for a state board school, that figure is 70. Given their relatively smaller student intake, central board schools demand higher fees. Dakshina Kannada currently has around 50 CBSE/ICSE schools, with Kendriya Vidyalaya, Panambur, being the first CBSE school in DK. Sr Melissa, the principal of Mount Carmel Central School, which started its CBSE curriculum in 2008, said some schools start under the state board, but later switch to CBSE or ICSE curriculum. "They can do so after obtaining a no objection certificate from the state govt and apply for CBSE or ICSE affiliation. Once the paperwork is done, a team from the board concerned visits the school for final approval," she added. This year, several schools have applied for CBSE/ICSE affiliation. One such institution is Ladyhill English Medium Higher Primary School, which obtained ICSE affiliation after switching over from the state board. Sr Jennifer Moras, the school head, said they had applied for affiliation a year ago and received permission four months later.
