KV Dharwad Students Excel in ‘Mera Amrit Station' Competition
Students of PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya, Dharwad, have excelled in the competitions held under the 'Mera Amrit Station' initiative of the Indian Railways. While Roshani of Class III emerged as the star performer in the Drawing Competition, securing the 1st prize for her creative and imaginative artwork, Surabhi V.G. of Class IX secured 2nd position in the essay competition and 3rd position in elocution competition, a release from KV said. The students received the prizes from Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot during the inauguration ceremony of the Amrit Stations held in Dharwad recently. Chairman of Karnataka Legislative Council Basavaraj Horatti and others were present. Deputy Commissioner of the KVS Regional Office Dharmendra Patle, Assistant Commissioners R. How Hindi and fund crunch ‘unite' southern states in protest
Hindi is like the Aurangazeb of Indian languages. The Mughal emperor was ruthless when he aggressively stretched the borders into the Deccan and beyond. History tells us that both have been expansionists and steamrolled rivals into insignificance. Delhi's noble intention has been to 'unify' India that lay 'tukde-tukde' by a legion of regional languages. With a unifier — that's Hindi. For southern states, Hindi had already ceased to hold the old charm. They have been busy exporting techies, doctors, nurses, and teachers in huge numbers to foreign lands and earning dinars and dollars (ignore Trump's new remittance law). Job markets in Mumbai and Delhi no longer fascinate them. And for the hardcore Bollywood fans, the Khans have begun to speak in Tamil and Malayalam in the new digital era. The two prime reasons to try out Hindi have thus died a natural death. New Delhi clarified that the National Education Policy did not compel anyone to teach Hindi. It only wants every Indian to learn three languages. It can be Sanskrit (like some of the big northern states have now decided to go for) or any other Indian language. Quite big-hearted in its approach. All schools run by the central government (CBSE and KV) chose to teach Hindi as the third language, citing convenience. Given that a lot of Indian students are migrating to foreign universities for higher studies, can they opt for Spanish, German, French, Arabic, or Chinese as their third language? The quick retort comes with a snub: it is more about one's culture and values. Not everyone is a linguaphile. Some love to learn languages; some do not.

June 11: Judgment day for 13 teens in vocational college killing
TAWAU: The fate of 13 teenagers, aged between 16 and 19, who are accused of murdering a student from Lahad Datu Vocational College (KV) in March last year, is expected to be decided on June 11. High Court Judge Datuk Duncan Sikodol set the tentative date for the verdict during proceedings at the High Court here today. Today's session was initially scheduled for clarification on decisions, submissions, or specific legal issues before the court fixes the date for judgment. Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Nur Nisla Abd Latif informed the court that all parties had filed their written submissions, with the prosecution submitting theirs earlier this morning. However, she requested a new deadline to file the prosecution's reply, as several defence counsels had submitted their submissions late. Duncan instructed the prosecution to file their reply submission by or before May 21 and subsequently fixed June 11 as the tentative date for the court's decision. The 13 teenagers were jointly charged with the murder of Mohamad Nazmie Aizzat Mohd Narul Azwan at Lahad Datu Vocational College between 9pm on March 21 and 7.38am on March 22 last year. They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34, which carries the mandatory death penalty or imprisonment of 30 to 40 years and up to 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. On April 15, the defence closed its case after calling 18 witnesses during the defence stage of the trial. All 13 accused gave sworn testimony from the witness stand. Eight of the accused were represented by lawyers Kamarudin Mohmad Chinki, Datuk Ram Singh, and Chen Wen Jye, while the remaining five were represented by Abdul Ghani Zelika, and court-appointed counsels Vivien Thien, Jhasseny P. Kang, Kusni Ambotuwo, and Mohamed Zairi Zainal Abidin.

Collector stresses on new Kendriya Vidyalaya in Dhone
Nandyal: District Collector G Rajakumari has directed Kendriya Vidyalaya authorities to initiate necessary measures for starting a new Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) in Dhone town from the current academic year. On Saturday, the Collector inspected the government ITI College premises in Dhone, which has been identified for temporary accommodation until a permanent campus is constructed. Following the approval for setting up the Kendriya Vidyalaya in Dhone, the Collector instructed the KV Principal to ensure arrangements are made to commence classes from this academic session. Since the permanent school building is still under construction, the government ITI College buildings will temporarily host the school. During her inspection, the Collector reviewed the availability of essential infrastructure such as classrooms, toilets, drinking water, and other facilities, and advised concerned officials to make the necessary provisions promptly. Additionally, the Collector inspected a 9.5-acre land parcel identified for the permanent Kendriya Vidyalaya campus on the outskirts of Dhone town. She instructed Transco officials to initiate the removal of electric poles and service wires from the site to facilitate construction. Infrastructure Development in Dorapalli Gutta Housing Colony Later, the Collector visited Dorapalli Gutta, a suburban area of Dhone, where a housing colony is under development. Of the 1,554 sanctioned houses, 766 have already been completed and handed over to beneficiaries, according to a briefing by the Housing AE (Assistant Engineer). The Collector was informed that due to the colony's location on a hillock, there have been difficulties in ensuring drinking water supply and road connectivity. To address these challenges, the Collector instructed the Municipal Commissioner to lay pipelines under the Water Grid scheme to ensure a permanent water supply. She also emphasized the need to improve road connectivity, electricity, and other essential infrastructure, encouraging remaining beneficiaries to come forward and complete the construction of their homes. The Collector directed Housing Department engineers to expedite these works and ensure all basic amenities are provided at the earliest. The Collector was accompanied by Dhone RDO Narasimhulu, Municipal Commissioner Prasad Goud, Tahsildar Nagamani, District Educational Officer Janardhan Reddy, Deputy DEO Sudhakar Reddy, Housing DE Krishna Reddy, and other officials during the inspection.
