After weeks of speculation, former Springbok coach Jake White has left the Bulls after five years in charge of the Tshwane-based franchise.
It had widely been reported after last month's United Rugby Championship final, won 32–7 by Leinster, that a number of Bulls players were not happy with White's comments.
It was the third URC final the Bulls had lost in the last four years, and White complained in the post-match press conference that the players available to him were not on the same level as Leinster's.
This led to a player revolt, reportedly led by captain Ruan Nortje and Marcell Coetzee, who took their complaints that they were not happy with his leadership style to management. It was also reported that White and his assistant coaches Chris Rossouw and Andries Bekker had fallen out.

Now, it seems the Bulls have acted on those complaints and relieved the 2007 Rugby World Cup-winning coach of his position.
'Jake has tremendous rugby IP, and that has been visible in the way he was able to transfer it into our structures, and as a club we remain grateful for those contributions made during his tenure,' Bulls CEO Edgar Rathbone said in a statement on Friday.
'He did amazing work here, and it was a privilege to work with him as he helped our team become a superpower again. He has given us a great platform to build upon with a talented crop of young players who are just finding their true offering.
'He also helped the bigger playing group develop, with 10 emerging to play for the Springboks. This encouraging growth also ensured we were often in the mix for silverware.'
Commenting on his departure, White said: 'I would like to thank all the loyal supporters, the Bulls staff that worked tirelessly, and the players for their hard work and dedication. I wish Blue Bulls Rugby Union president Willem Strauss and the amateur game lots of success in the future.
'To the shareholders, I will always be grateful for all the support and financial backing they gave, far and beyond any other club. Thank you for the privilege.
'To the board for their support and CEO Edgar Rathbone, coaches, and management – it was great to be part of this winning culture. To be part of Bulls rugby history has been an absolute honour. I wish Bulls rugby all the best. Hou die blou bol!'
Former Lions coach Johan Ackermann, as well as Bath's Johann van Graan, are the favourites to replace White as coach.

ICONIC: Springboks' 1995 national anthem featuring Madiba!

The 1995 Rugby World Cup final featured three things South Africa is undoubtedly most proud of – the Springboks, the national anthem, and the late Nelson Mandela, fondly known as Madiba. The first democratic president made a special appearance at the historic event, which the Boks won for the first time on home soil as the host country. It also marked the dawn of democracy and the unification of South Africans through sport. Thirty years ago, South Africa hosted the Rugby World Cup final between New Zealand and the Springboks at Loftus Versfeld Stadium. The national anthem was sung by choral group, Imilonji Kantu Choral Society. The World In Union – a fitting song selection given the context – was performed next by PJ Powers and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. The emotional and historic game featured legendary players who have since passed, such as Joost van der Westhuizen, James Small, and Chester Williams. It also starred Nelson Mandela, who brought his infectious Madiba Magic to the stadium. The Springboks ultimately won 15-12 against the All Blacks. Following the inception of democracy in 1994, the first black president, Nelson Mandela, urged South Africans to mend racial divides and support the Springboks. The move would see him being criticised by militant groups for trying to promote a 'fake unity.' Nevertheless, Mandela would tell the public of the Boks: 'The country is fully behind them. I have never been so proud of our boys as I am now. I hope that that pride we all share.' A year later, SA – who were once shunned by the world over Apartheid atrocities – not only hosted the Rugby World Cup but won it too. Iconic images of the late, proud president – donning green and gold – lifting the Webb Ellis trophy alongside Springbok captain Francois Pienaar made headlines around the world. The historical scenes were credited as the moment South Africans of all races formed a bond through sport and support for, ultimately, the Springboks. Here are the lyrics to South Africa's beautiful national anthem, as sung before each Springboks game… Nkosi sikelel' Afrika Maluphakanyisw' uphondo lwayo Yizwa imithandazo yethu Nkosi sikelela thina lusapho lwayo Morena boloka setjhaba sa heso O fedise dintwa le matshwenyeho O se boloke (Ntate) o se boloke setjhaba sa heso Setjhaba sa South Afrika (South Afrika) Uit die blou van onse hemel Uit die diepte van ons see Oor ons ewige gebergtes Waar die kranse antwoord gee Sounds the call to come together And united we shall stand Let us live and strive for freedom In South Africa, our land . A quiet transfer window could actually see Mamelodi Sundowns thrive in Africa

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso must aim for some continuity following some good performances at the recently completed FIFA Club World Cup. Image: Backpagepix Mamelodi Sundowns did what they were supposed to do at the FIFA Club World Cup - they showcased the club's ability on the world stage and won the hearts of the masses. Sundowns opened their Group H campaign with a win over Ulsan HD. That was no surprise given their pedigree and the strength of the team compared to the Koreans. But it was against German giants Borussia Dortmund when they announced themselves to the world, as they put up a fearless and charismatic performance despite the 4-3 defeat. Sundowns were so good in that game that many pundits and fans were rooting for them to beat Fluminense in their final group match and qualify for the last 16. But it wasn't to be, as the match ended in a draw, resulting in the Chloorkop-based side finishing third in their group and crashing out of the tournament. Video Player is loading. Advertisement Next Stay Close ✕ Ad loading Sure, it is often said 'no one remembers the losers', but Sundowns have defied that tag as many will be rooting for them if they qualify for the 2029 edition. That tournament will be in four years' time, but the time to build for the club is now - they need to invest in the club's youth and polish the 'Shoeshine and Piano' flair that saw them win over new fans. The club has the likes of Jayden Adams (24), Malibongwe Khoza (21), Kutlwano Letlhaku (19) and Ndumiso Mabena (18) who should be able to drive vision 2029. But these youngsters cannot be thrown in the deep end now - they still need the guidance of seniors such as Teboho Mokoena (28) and Khuliso Mudau (30). And so, as the transfer window slowly heats up this month, the club must be wary of buying unnecessary players and should instead focus on a succession plan. Yes, challenging for top honours such as the Betway Premiership and CAF Champions League requires the team to have the best players at their disposal. And boy, Sundowns, thanks to their deep pockets, have the best players money can buy. But there's no need for the club to strengthen the squad for the sake of killing local competition, instead they must buy what they need in their bids for the league and African crown. Investing more in getting the best out of the current crop of players would also strengthen the competition, especially for continental football. Winning the league has been like taking candy from a baby from Sundowns, with the team having won the last eight titles in a row due to poor competition at home. Strong competition would aid their bid to do well in African football, as the wheels tend to come off in the latter stages as it did in the Champions League final last season.

Orlando Pirates set to land 11th signing continuing transfer spree

Orlando Pirates look set to finalise their eleventh signing ahead of the new season, with 22-year-old TS Galaxy defender Lebone Seama training with the Soweto giants. A source has confirmed that the player is currently under close assessment by the technical team. Seama, who joined TS Galaxy in 2022, played a pivotal role for the Mpumalanga-based side last season. He featured in 30 matches across all competitions, 22 of those in the Betway Premiership, as Tim Sukazi's men finished a respectable fifth. 'Seama has been seen training with the Buccaneers, who are taking their time to fully assess the defender.' If Pirates secure Seama's signature, he will add to an already impressive list of new recruits at Mayfair. The club has brought in a flurry of players as they strengthen under new coach Abdelsam Ouaddou, who took over from Jose Riveiro last month. The confirmed new arrivals so far include: Yanela Mbuthuma and Nkosikhona Mbatha (Richards Bay) Oswin Appollis (Polokwane City) Masindi Nemtajela (Marumo Gallants) Tshepang Moremi (AmaZulu) Sinoxolo Kwayiba (Chippa United) Tshepo Mashiloane (Baroka) Sihle Nduli (Stellenbosch) With Seama potentially completing the set, Pirates continue to back their ambition with bold transfer decisions. Pirates are preparing for an intensive pre-season tour in Spain, where they plan to play four friendly matches. The trip will provide an early glimpse of Ouaddou's tactics and how the new signings fit into his system. The Bucs, who finished second in the league for the third consecutive season. And claimed their third straight MTN8 title, appearing determined to go one better in 2025. Will Orlando Pirates complete signing number eleven?
